  1. So long Justin Morneau. I hope Liriano and Morneau help the Pirates go all the way.
  2. Pretty sweet, indeed. And, no, no one on this board said so. Wasn't making any accusations. Sorry if you felt it was implied.
  3. Hitter, not to cast doubt, I know Texas really bumped teacher pay a few years ago, but I would like to see your district's salary schedule. I'm 21 years in, M.A., and am in the low 60s in a suburban Des Moines district. Also, nothing wrong with teachers being comfortable. It's fucking hard and important work. Most of us who have "summers off" either work, study, become stay at home parents or all 3.
  4. I just committed to not going to RiotFest Chiacgo. My son's football season starts that weekend. Oh well...
  5. No. Was it hilarious? Hell yeah. RE: Affirmative action. Doesn't it seem a bit silly that Sasha or Melia Obama, or Willow or Jade Smith could benefit from their status as African-Americans in college admissions? I wouldn't really have a problem with giving preferential treatment for people from lower socioeconomic status, and many African-Americans are disproportionately down low. But to make race the only (or even predominate) factor will help many affluent people and fail to acknowledge the progress those families have made.
  6. Paste has links to a bunch of youtube clips, other not. http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2013/08/the-replacements-give-first-live-performance-in-22.html?utm_source=PANL&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=130826
  7. Good catch on my poor grammar. Pretty stupid of me. I'm sorry you are so offended by my flippant nature, but I really think you're (see I know some grammar) overreacting. Over the years on this board, people have treated me flippantly, and I've done the same. It's an internet board and if people, say, take joy in pointing out my stupid grammar, my self esteem isn't going tom be too much the worse for wear. Perspective... I still think it's silly to post a picture of you favorite band in t-shirts and jeans to say "Hey look, image doesn't matter to me." That is their image. It's an imag
  8. How was I douchy? Is my contention about Wilco and the Black Eyed Peas? Calm down.
  9. It's weird that people keep posting pictures of the Dead and Pink Floyd in other bands in plain, unfashionable clothing thinking that their making some kind of point. If Wilco started dressing like the Black Eyed Peas, a lot of y'all would be pissed. Appearance matters. Period.
  10. He no longer liked working with the guy, Wilco is, was, and will be Jeff Tweedy's band. Bennett made some huge contributions to the band, but Tweedy wanted to move on. How is it "corporate"? If anything, a Bennettless Wilco was harder to market.
  11. My votes have been in your tent about 60-40 for the past decade, FWIW. Edit: 40-60
  12. Yes, because the Republicans were REALLY hoping that the socialist Muslim born in Kenya would win a 2nd term.
  13. It would never happen, but I would love a Constitutional amendment banning gerrymandering. The wording itself would be difficult and as hard as it is to amend the Constitution, I don't see it happening again in my lifetime.
  14. Just being snarky. It's kind of slow right now. Congress is on recess. Zimmerman's not guilty. There is lots of shit wrong, but no immediate crises. The deficit's apparently down, the economy's apparently up. I've always followed politics for both the policy and the sport of it.
  15. I hope you're right. I'm still a registered Republican. But over the last 20 years, I've moved to the left on a lot of issues (mostly doing with issues of personal freedom) and the party has veered incredibly far to the right. I don't agree with Christie on everything, but he reminds me of why I used to be kind of proud to be a Republican.
  16. Unfortunately, I don't see Christie getting the nomination. First, there's the weight issue. I may be wrong, but I don't think America wants a fat president. Second, though he speaks loudly and plainly, he's a moderate and he'll compromise. Also, he and made friends with Obama during Sandy. The lunatic fringe (which isn't even the fringe anymore) of my party won't tolerate that. It's too bad. I think Clinton and Christie would have a loud, but ultimately honest and respectful, campaign.
  17. I will watch this show someday. Have missed out so far. For those who are fans, you might be interested in this link: http://www.earwolf.com/episode/vince-gilligan/ Vince Gilligan was the latest guest on the Jeff Garlin podcast. I became a big fan after Tweedy's appearance.
  18. I love the movie. Started listening to the commentary, which I rarely do, but thought it would be interesting. He came off as such an arrogant "If you don't like my movie, you don't really like the Replacements" prick that I turned it off after
  19. Just in case you thought America had a monopoly on stupid politicians. Aussie politician mistakes Islam for country http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/11/world/australia-politician-blunders/index.html
