  1. A colleague had a student use 6969 Morningwood Drive as a fictional address on an assignment once. She saved the assignment.
  2. What if I'm not burned out on talking to people who are not burned out on Wilco?
  3. This is true. Kind of like Quiz Show. Take a historical event and twist it a bit to turn it into a beautiful morality play.
  4. If everything you know about Salieri you learned from Adadeus, then you have more misinformation than information. Having said that, I fucking love Amadeus.
  5. I like the gun discussion, but am glad it's out of the political thread.
  6. Fair enough. BTW, I've got an NRA sticker on one of my vehicles because it was given to us used by my in-laws. My father-in-law is a big enough supporter of theirs that out of respect to him and the gift he gave us, the sticker remains.
  7. I have only known Snodgrass as a surname. What other meaning has it had?
  8. I follow Ryan Adams and tried to figure out why he & Hannity were all up in each other's panties, but couldn't. This is ridiculous.
  9. This is a great show. Reeves is definitely making his style fit with the style of the songs here. If you want a comparison search youtube for anything from Bowie's 50th birthday show and on almost any song you'll -- I think -- get a sense for what I mean. I love his playing, but I didn't need to hear screeching notes on every song.
  10. I can't understand why this thread wasn't locked when I -- quite clearly and concisely -- answered the question in the 2nd post!
  11. I watched a lot of that Bowie 50th birthday thing on youtube within the past week. I got kinda tired of Reeves' sound. I do love that 1st Tin Machine LP. I'm not sure how it would meld w/ the Cure unless he reeled himself in quite a bit. Having said that, a Nels/Reeves pairing would be something.
  12. Hey, NoJ. Today is a very important anniversary, you know.
  13. I think it's pretty clear that this Don Draper fellow is trouble. He broke the board.
  14. For a tailgating event, I can see paying $40. I think that's about right for Chiefs games and the tailgating there is unreal. But for a concert, ridiculous.
  15. Some performers who sing religious music -- the Dead, for example -- may do so out of a a sense of history for traditional American music and not out of a sincere religious devotion. It's in that context that I enjoy political music whether I agree with the political principles behind it. It seems hard for you to grasp that because the politics behind the music are such an integral component to you. It reminds me of ction's bit about enjoying Wilco on his terms. I may appreciate the music, the passion and artfulness of lyric, and a passionate performance, even if I disagree with it.
  16. But did they make "conservative" music? Lee Greenwood and Toby Keith have made conservative music, but -- despite 66rebilac's contention -- it sucks.
  17. I'd agree with this. Can't really think of any exceptions except maybe some of Rush's libertarian, Ayn Rand-celebrating stuff has some conservative appeal.
  18. I know plenty of "older" folks who adore Dylan and other protest singers, but have always been conservative. I think there were some who hoped to change the world, but lots who wanted to get laid, get, high, and enjoy some cool music.
  19. So you contend the Avetts don't mean it as much as Springsteen singing Seeger, eh? Do you have insight into the Avetts' faith? I love Springsteen and don't begrudge him a thing, but I would contend that Gates and Buffett are more generous with their wealth than he is. Lennon wrote Imagine, but I don't think he meant it.
