I am thankful for my dad. Both of my parents have been great, but I have a real bond with my dad. We play tennis together. We go to football and baseball games together. He has been unbelievably patient with me and others in my family. He is wise and generous. He can be annoyingly obtuse about lots of things, but he has always been there for me, as has my mother. His take home pay was more than mine at the time. He certainly could have been exaggerating, but it really rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm not sure why, but time and context is important. WWII is okay, but on War on Terror shit seems highly inappropriate. Though I know a veteran of Iraq who loves these games. It's crossed my mind that they might even provide a release to avoid PTSD for him.

I don't think there's any consensus of the long view of history. It's nice(and sometimes quite easy) to see things that way when there's movement in a direction you like. There could almost always, though, be a well supported opposing point of view.
