  1. A LOT of the bands already mentioned would be ones that I've grown more fond of. The Smiths are one of the few that I think I actively disliked and like (thought not love) now. Springsteen and GnR in particular. I'm not a Deadhead, but I really like listening to them and I used to dislike them quite a bit.
  2. Obama ought to do an Al Green tribute tour.
  3. A guy I grew up with is a Chicago-area musician. Tomorrow at 7:30 CDT, he's going to be on WXRT's Local Anesthetic. His name is Thomas Pace. He's a straight forward singer-songwriter usually with quite a bit of twang thrown in. Tune in if you can.

  5. Blame the Vain is fantastic. I will give this a listen for sure.
  6. He's admitted he pays a low tax rate. Not going to defend it, I was just shocked you figured you reached some eureka moment on an obvious point.
  7. Is that substantially different from Obama's condescending comments about people clinging to guns and religion 4 years ago?
  8. He pays income tax. Capital gains is income, just taxed differently from salary or wages or whatever the hell they call what most of us make. This is not even the idea of the moment let alone the century. It's why people have been shouting to see his returns for months.
  9. Have any of you seen St. Elsewhere? They dealt with depression, autism, atheism, serios stuff that wasn't on tv then. Denzel Washington, Helen Hunt, the dad from the Graduate, erc. Top notch cast.
  10. Freaks and Geeks is probably my favorite, but I'm 42. I don't know if I can objectively say it's the best. Nostalgia is a huge part of its appeal. IMO, Seinfeld > Curb Your Enthusiasm, but just by a little bit. St. Elsewhere belongs in this discussion.
  11. Exile is a great album filled with few top notch songs. As I made my list I didn't want to ignore it, but had trouble including it. Tumbling dice was one of the hardest to include and I'm not sure I picked the best song from exile.
  12. I say yes. For example, I like Pete Townsend's prowess as a strummer. Never impressed by his solos. Hence, he's, IMO, a great rhythm guitarist, not so much as a lead. Did d. Boon ever play a solo in his life?
  13. Jumpin Jack Flash is overplayed, but that riff pretty much defined the Stones. Same with Satisfaction. Most underrated Stones Song is Monkey Man Those 3 are on my list. Can't Always Get What You Want Sympathy For the Devil Street FIghting Man Gimme Shelter Tumbling Dice Paint it Black Under My Thumb I reserve the right to change my mind a few dozen times. I thought about Miss You, Beast of Burden, even Waiting on a Friend.
  14. Saw Low playing at Northern Lights record store next to First Avenue before a Bob Mould show. Can't say I ever became a huge fan, but admired the advancement of their career.
  15. I've listened to the first 3-4 tracks and I'd say he's still in great form. I like his voice and the music. Need to pay more attention to the lyrics, but it's great stuff so far.
  16. Louie, others who teach or a related to people to teach in CPS: Does the union have funds to pay the striking teachers anything substantial while the strike is on?? Could get really scary financially. As there has been talk of strike for months, I hope people were able to build up some savings, but yikes!
  17. Peter Buck. Also, not a personal favorite, but very influential, Johnny Marr.
  18. I teach. I have no thoughts to share except that accountability, fairly administered (difficult but important to define) is huge.
  19. Sterling was my 1st thought. Love Lou's tone in the late 80s and early 90s. Keith and Pete are up there too.
  20. I'm pretty sure there's nothing subjective about it. Maybe not the worst, but just plain bad.
  21. Happy birthday to the funniest damn vc'er around.
