1. The Hagar and "class reunion" bits were gold. Also, the frequent use of the word, "fuck". I really liked that.
2. Right Stuff was a fav of my teenage years. Had no idea who Levon was then. Discovered he played Ridley about 2 years ago.
3. Very entertaining. Garlin got more outta Tweedy than anyone I've ever heard.
4. Yes, he'll be safe in the distant land of the O.C. Though the Dallas area has plenty of temptation as America's team proves quite regularly. Per capita, temptation is prolly close to equal.
5. Ramblin Syd Rumpo's vids did not embed or link, so I didn't copy & paste 'em into the browser. My choice, posted here long ago was "Can You Picture That?" by Doctor Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Composed by Paul Williams and featured in the Muppet Movie. Probably would need a sax player for that too, but it would give a chance for Pat & John to take a lead vocal as well as Jeff.
6. I do love me some Joe Walsh.
7. You have strayed so far from logic and the arguments presented against your POV that I think it's futile to continue, but I'll try. I think most gun control advocates recognize that most gun owners are responsible. All of us are concerned about keeping guns out of the hands of the irresponsible and insane. Comparing crime rates of a general population to the population of conceal permit holders is pretty much the definition of apples to oranges. Fewer guns means fewer gun crimes. Period. That's not goings to happen here and I'm not even sure it should. Given that, I believe conceal pe
8. I am familiar with both guys, but honestly would not have been able to tell you 24 hours ago if either was alive or dead with any certainty. Nevertheless, RIP.
9. Hixter, would you stipulate that the tragedy in Norway is an incredible aberration? It seems like those against gun control would do well to simply admit that there is a social cost to pay to having so many guns. Countries with tighter laws have fewer gun murders. Period. You can argue liberty vs. safety and I'll listen and even support the right to own guns, but don't try to sell us on gun control leading to more gun crime. It's a non-starter.
10. Garlin just tweeted that the new podcast is available: http://twitter.com/jgarlin/status/291368806679445506 But on iTunes it only has ep. 1 available.
11. For someone who listens to Adele and other radio-friendly music, that's probably the best you can expect. I would start with Being There, A.M., SBS, or W(TA) before getting into the more dissonant stuff. The thing with with YHF, though, is as dissonant as it is, there are lots of great melodic hooks.
12. I am not for a total ban of hand guns like they have in the UK. But one cannot question it's effectiveness in bringing down the murder rate. They apparently have higher crime rates in some areas, probably because criminals feel emboldened knowing their victims do not have guns. I think it's a fair (and tough to answer) question how much freedom we sacrifice to save lives. I have no problem with banning big magazines, (some) assault rifles, getting rid of the STUPID gun show loophole, and lots of other restrictions. But I also like the idea of conceal & carry laws. I doubt I'd ever c
13. I've seen Gerald w/ Justin many, many times. It's clear enjoys the gig. He and the whole band are so warm, receptive and respectful towards kids. It's something to behold.
14. Bob Mould - Workbook Velvet Underground - Loaded YHF
15. Uh oh. A 17 year old. Let's all stay PG-13 here.
16. I loved the tune with just one listen. Need to give it more. The video was appropriately creepy for Bowie. I'd love to see his son (Duncan Jones: directed Moon and Source Code) direct a video.
17. Going back to Whiskeytown is a good idea. Gold is my favorite solo. The most rockin' other than Rock and Roll, which is also good, but it's straight ahead modern rock and not like most of his other stuff. Gold is 70s rock.
18. Hot Wax was great. I hope this one is as good and he gets some publicity. The man needs $$ pretty badly, I think.
19. I hope he finds his dog too, but who the hell would want to be a character in a Lehane novel?? That couldn't possibly end well.
