Picked this up this morning....

Great. A decent chance of an Ireland gig around the same time. Hope it's not a festival slot, though....

After being lukewarm about the album at first, I'm really enjoying it now. Little nuances reveal themselves with every listen, guitar parts and lyrics start to stick and time flies by listening to it rather than it being a chore to get through. Whereas Jeff has previously sung about their songs being "an aural arms open wide" and "a sonic shoulder to cry on", a lot of the tunes on this record actually deliver on that particular promise...

Sure is really good. I also dug out The Whole Love last week. It had kinda passed me by first time around and I didn't get into it. I think the only Irish show they did to support it was an outdoor festival gig that didn't really set the world alight. Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Apart from a couple of plodders (as the writer alludes to), it was (and is) really strong.

Good interview....but John didn't really come across as particularly effusive about the album. He refers to the recording process as "interesting", which seems to damn it with faint praise. He doesn't seem to say that they had a blast putting it together or it was...fun? Maybe it was and that just hasn't come across but it seems a fairly "meh" standpoint...

Yeah, gave it a spin earlier with headphones and enjoyed it enough to want to listen again but it's certainly a headphones album and not one I think I'd fully take in if listening, say, in the car. Overall, though, it's not a million miles from Schmilco and the solo albums and I don't go back to them so often. A bit one-paced but it is what it is. Maybe the next one will be more like a Star Wars....

Still waiting on CD and t-shirt from the euro store. Bought the pink vinyl in my local record shop on Saturday but don't have a turntable yet...

Thanks. That would be a bummer alright. Felt really short-changed when they did Forbidden Fruit in Dublin in 2012 (although meeting John wandering about earlier was a nice bonus...) and having to pay for a festival ticket just to see them is a bit too much....and that's if it hasn't already sold out by the time they're announced...

So did anyone hear any whispers as to why Dublin was left out this time around and/or whether the guys will get back here any time soon?

Just got one listen to Warmer on the online stream but it sounded good to me. Perhaps marginally preferable to Warm. Looking forward to it coming out...

Nice one. I'm up north and my local got none. The owner was under the impression no shop in Ireland or UK got any except Rough Trade but obviously he wasn't aware that Tower got some. Edit - referring to DickDarlington's post above. Wasn't able to quote it for some reason...

Not the RSD release anyway. Only available at participating record stores. They might make it available after that...

Great gig. Beautiful venue in the heart of Dublin. Trees lined on each side of the makeshift arena made for good shelter and kept the acoustics pretty spot-on. The Star Wars material really came to the fore for me in their live versions and there was a good smattering of classics as well. The acoustic set was a big surprise for me. I had seen a few set lists but hadn't been aware there was an acoustic set. But very much a pleasant surprise. Hope they're back again next year to tour the new album. Fingers crossed for a return to the two-night Vicar St set-up...

Glenn had a judge's wig on at the start of ITMWLY...then his drum tech had a horse's head on at one point.... Jeff was in good humour. He gave the finger to some guy on the balcony earlier who shouted something. Sounded fairly innocent but Jeff obviously keen to establish the boundaries... Some other bloke shouted out, "Kansas City"....I guess a nod to the similar shout in "Kicking Television" when Jeff came out with that great put down but I don't think Jeff got it.
