  1. Wow, what a book. I'm only about 1/4 of the way through it, but I've learned so much. I can say that we will no longer eat meat or eggs that come from a "factory" farm. Also, foods that contain mostly processed corn are out of here too.
  2. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  3. I loved Jane Eyre. I was sad when it was over.
  4. Just finished: AMAZING!! Just started:
  5. That book just arrived in the mail about 20 minutes ago! I can't wait to read it.
  6. There is a farm not too far from me that does it and they actually have a store of sorts that is open tomorrow. They encourage you to bring your kids up there to see the farm. I think I might take them and pick up some veggies while I'm there. I do want to grow my own garden too, but I don't have a lot of space. Plus, the family plan only covers 2 adults and 2 kids and we have 4 kids, so the extra will be welcome. Any extras can be dried, canned, or frozen. It's a little more than we spend on produce right now, but we don't buy organic and what we do buy just doesn't have the flavor
  7. I like the idea of getting my meat and veggies from local farmers and I'm thinking about doing this next year. Anyone have any experience with it? The cost seems pretty fair and would work out to about $25 a week for produce in the summer, which isn't bad considering it's all organic.
  8. Have you checked out any listmania lists on Amazon to see if there is something there?
  9. I love that book. Jason just finished reading it too.
  10. I'm reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.
  11. I read all of the Sweet Valley High books as well as all of the Babysitter's Club books when I was her age. I couldn't get enough of those books.
  12. Pick up The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart, she might like that one. Carson Ellis does the illustrations. Also, The Invention Of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick was good too. It's a thick book but Austin read it in about a day and a half because most of it is illustrations. Would she get into something like Nancy Drew books seeing as how the movie is out now?
  13. I finished it around 3:00 today. I thought it was a great book.
  14. I do!! http://www.librarything.com/catalog/austrya
  15. Yeah, I thought it was a good book too. I love books like that. I read the whole thing in less than 24 hours because I couldn't put it down.
  16. No, not taking the day off of work. I'm a stay at home mom, I don't get days off. I meant that I was taking the day off from reading, but I ended up reading Cane River by Lalita Tademy anyways.
  17. I read The Mysteries of Pittsburgh by Michael Chabon yesterday. I'm taking the day off today since neither Target or the library had the next book I want to read.
  18. My goal is to ignore my family and have it finished by Sunday. I've read about 9 books since mid-June, so I think I'll be able to do it. I promise I won't tell anyone what happens.
  19. I used to take Jacob to the movies when he was an infant. He just slept the whole time or nursed. It's not like a 3 month old is going to be ruined for life because he saw something violent on the movie screen. In about 30 seconds, he won't even remember he saw it.
  20. I finished: I didn't love it. Then read: I really, really liked this one! Now reading: I'm a couple of chapters in and so far, so good.
  21. I'm very excited!! I'm not doing anything to prepare. I thought about re-reading some or all of the books, but decided against it only because I had other books I wanted to read instead. Who knows, I might still give one or more of them a go. They're quick reads. Mine is coming in the mail from Amazon. I'm hoping by chance that they screwed up somehow and I get my book a day early.
  22. I was skeptical at first. I have never had an interest in the circus at all and wasn't sure if I'd like it. I decided to give it a go since it was mentioned on VC and was quite surprised. I loved it. I finished it in less than 24 hours. Not bad for a 331 page book when I have 4 kids...
  23. I went to read more of "Saturday" last night and couldn't find my book anywhere. So, since I got this one in the mail, I decided to start reading it. It's very good and I'll have it finished by this afternoon. Jason found "Saturday" for me this morning. It was on top of the dryer...
