  1. We won't make it to the meet up as we won't get to Anastasia State Park until 6-6:30 and we need to set up the tent and eat before we bike to the venue but have one for me and Mrs. C. It is a beautiful venue and the rain is supposed to be over by showtime. Excited anyway but even more so due to our lucky break with front row seats! We are on the aisle at the Pat end.

A Wilco show followed by spending the morning on the beach.

    Enjoy, all.

  2. They audibled out of I Must Be High at the start of the first encore, and added Walken. Those were the only differences from the printed list...

I was not happy finding this out! :crybaby Ha ha! I would take I Must Be High over Walken any time. What a great show. I know that our memories get distorted by the most recent information but we've been to almost 30 shows since 1996 and this was one of the best. The energy from the band and the crowd was excellent. As my wife said "you always feel so good at a Wilco show but damn!". The set list flowed so well and nary a low point (though it could have been better without the audible! Ha!). Wilco Me and, I think, smells like flowers, were right in front of us. It was nice meeting Wilco Me, albeit briefly. Thanks for saying "I can't think of anything specific that you've posted but you aren't one of the assholes.".

When One Sunday Morning opened, we were nervous about the sit/stand (we stand, regardless of the pressure) but the crowd was on it's collective feet all show. We are ready for St. Augustine tonight.

  3. For me, Andrew Sullivan has eloquently articulated why President Obama announcing his support of same-sex marriage matters, regardless of the politics. Perfect.

"I do not know how orchestrated this was; and I do not know how calculated it is. What I know is that, absorbing the news, I was uncharacteristically at a loss for words for a while, didn't know what to write, and, like many Dish readers, there are tears in my eyes.

"So let me simply say: I think of all the gay kids out there who now know they have their president on their side. I think of Maurice Sendak, who just died, whose decades-long relationship was never given the respect it deserved. I think of the centuries and decades in which gay people found it impossible to believe that marriage and inclusion in their own families was possible for them, so crushed were they by the weight of social and religious pressure. I think of all those in the plague years shut out of hospital rooms, thrown out of apartments, written out of wills, treated like human garbage because they loved another human being. I think of Frank Kameny. I think of the gay parents who now feel their president is behind their sacrifices and their love for their children."

  4. Yes! 2 front row seats. We decided against more than the Tampa show due to finances but about 2 weeks ago, since Ticketmaster had about 1/3 or 1/4 of the venue still available, I checked Ebay and Stubhub just to see what their prices were. I almost bought a pair of pit 3 row C for $130 plus shipping but decided to keep checking several times a day in hopes that they might drop. Today they went down to $120 plus shipping and I almost pulled the trigger. I can't honestly say why, but I went to Ticketmaster and did a doubletake when several pair in the pit showed up on the seat map. I grabbed the remaining front row pair for face value plus the regular TMaster fees, a total of $111.50. Stubhub still has 12 row A for over $100 a piece, bastards. Incredible. I am a lucky SOB.

  5. I just bought 2 pit 1 row A from ticketmaster. Go now!! About 8 left from various pit rows!! WHOOT!!! Update: As of 9:48 EST rows B-J in both Pit 1 and 3 have pairs of seats.

This venue is excellent. We saw APrairie Home Companion there a few years back. Camp in the lovely Anastasia State Park and walk/bike to the venue. It connects to the park. Then spend the morning on a beautiful beach. I am wiggin'!!

  6. so an 11 year old justin beiber fan's list has equal merit to yours?

maybe the NYT should hire someone who only eats at KFC as a food critic.

rise of the internet = the death of the pundit.... do you believe it?

I don't fully understand why we are arguing/debating/discussing, as I didn't intentionally try to bait you, but, what the hell. The 11 year old Justin Beiber fan's list would have equal merit as mine. Both of our lists would be made based on our own preferences and experiences. It would be foolish for the New York Times to hire a KFC addict as a food critic since, I assume, the vast majority of NYT reader's don't eat a large amount of chain fast food but rather eat at independent restaurants. A KFC lover would likely be a fine choice to be food critic for some "Joe The Plumber"-esque blog or, pehaps, for some irony-drenched hipster emag.

The rise of the internet is not the death of the pundit. It simply allows more pundits for more specific target audiences. That is exactly what the Spin list is doing. I would guess that most readeers of Spin recognize more of those guitarists than readers of Rolling Stone. Also, as mentioned by another VCer, it is designed to create hits by being somewhat controversial and get linked in other websites to encourage more hits.

    Have a good day.

  7. The compiler is actually a guy who I knew from another music board: former writer for CMJ, then a freelancer until he landed the gig at Spin. Also plays drums for a band called Parts & Labor. Good musician, too. And I don't think that he's a junkie.

Thanks for his bio but as I don't care about the list, it doesn't really matter to me but I did enjoy his writing style. I, too, though I don't know him, doubt that he is a junkie. I just laughed at the comment.

  8. everyone's got a different reference point of what makes music good.

    but that's your favorite line?

Yeah. I found the inference that the list compiler is a heroin addict humorous. I have no opinion on the list itself. Beyond a cursory glance, I couldn't give 2 hoots in Hell about who is or isn't on a list of 100 Greatest Guitarists. As far as a good list, I suppose that it is as good as any other. Being someone's opinion, best of lists are of equal quality.

  9. I can't remember Mike Love not looking and acting like a douche. I can actually remember being about 8 and seeing him in the Kokomo video and thinking "man..... that guy looks like a pompous ass".

I must admit that when I was about 8, even though I was in gifted, I never used or thought of the phrase "pompous ass". Much respect to you.
