  1. The Dean version, at least the one that i have, has female singers, plural. I never understood that. I guess that makes it ultra creepy or ultra bad ass, depending on your view of an older dude pressuring young women into a group situation.
  2. Oh hell yes. That doesn't make it any less of an excellent song. No better version, either. All others pale in comparison to Johnny and Margaret. edit The creepiest version is Willie Nelson and Norah Jones. My dad was 22 years older than my mom, but Willie trying to seduce Norah is a bridge 46 years too far. In second place is Leon Redbone and Zooey Deschanel, a mere 31 year age gap.
  3. Christmas songs that are not carols (No particular order) Fairy Tale of New York - Pogues Merry Christmas from the Family - Robert Earl Keen Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight) - The Ramones Baby, It's Cold Outside - Johnny Mercer and Margaret Whiting Winter Wonderland - Dean Martin
  4. I'm far from a cool kid, but I learned from perusing VC itself. (Just having a laugh, sir) I find it easier than the above method. http://viachicago.org/topic/49411-embedding-youtube-videos/
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hw846vx_uk Sonny Curtis is still around.
  6. "I Fought the Law" is originally a Crickets song written by Sonny Curtis. The hell, ya'll?
  7. There is one important difference between Pence and Trump, and it makes all the difference. Pence said, "I'm a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order," Trump may not be a true atheist, but he isn't going to consult a book of mythology when making decisions.
  8. I am right there with you, sir. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT4iED5yrII
  9. I expect this old catchphrase to make a comeback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxAlJq94-b8
  10. Silence. The only sound conducive to falling asleep is a light rain on our metal roof. A recording of it would be annoying, it has to be the real thing.
  11. I was thinking about how you know a lot about music, so I decided to listen to London 0 Hull 4 a few times over the weekend. Upon reflection, I realized that you are correct, therefore I no longer consider it a classic album. I don't like to appear ignorant, so I appreciate your candor. Without you challenging me regarding one of my favorite albums, I'd have kept embarrassing myself. Thanks again.
  12. Ditto. It may be relatively unknown, but that doesn't keep it from being a classic album. By these definitions of classic, London 0 Hull 4 is a classic album, as are many relatively unknown works. Adjective 1. of the first or highest quality, class, or rank: a classic piece of work. 7. of enduring interest, quality, or style:a classic design; classic clothes.Noun15. an artist or artistic production considered a standard. 17.something noteworthy of its kind and worth remembering:His reply was a classic.
  13. I agree that the first Beautiful South is the best. Carry on up the Charts is the best Beautiful South comp. As for Paul solo, the first one, Fat Chance, is lacking. The others are good, but I'd recommend the most recent 2, where he reteams with Jaqui Abbott of The Beautiful South, "What have We Become" and 'Wisdom, Laughter and Lines".
  14. Lucky boy. I remember my similar reaction the first time that I heard the late, great Housemartins back in 1986/87. I totally dig them. If you don't have it, get "Now That's What I Call Quite Good". It's a Housemartins greatest hits comp, but also has excellent b-sides and radio sessions. Enjoy your Housemartins/The Beautiful South/Paul Heaton trip.
  15. I was wondering if Uncle Tupreo were eligible (yes, as of 2015), so I googled "uncle tupelo eligible rock and roll hall of fame" and the first hit was www.notinhalloffame.com I clicked on it and found this gem: Uncle Tupelo will likely not get indicted, although its lead member, Jeff Tweedy has an excellent shot with his later effort, Wilco. Ah, the internet, where anyone can be published.
  16. See for yourself. http://www.npr.org/2016/10/10/497380686/pence-sticks-with-trump-praises-running-mate-in-post-debate-tv-appearances edit This is better. 5 minute MSNBC interview. He's good, I'll give him that. I'm willing to bet that he showered after. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/after-distancing-himself-from-trump-pence-goes-back-to-defending-him/ar-BBxferb?li=BBnb7Kz
  17. I agree. I am baffled by the false equivalency, but it won't die. She answered poorly re the email server and that Abe Lincoln thing was rather Trumpesque, but on the outrageous, sickening and embarrassing metrics, there's no comparison.
  18. ‘Still the best candidate’: Some evangelicals still back Trump despite lewd video https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2016/10/08/still-the-best-candidate-some-evangelicals-still-back-trump-despite-lewd-video/
  19. Prior to June, if you'd have told me that the October Surprise would come from Access Hollywood, I'd have laughed. This is another in a long line of things you'd never have expected would be a part of a US presidential election, but are.
  20. My wife just showed my some news video from St. Augustine. Wow! Some storm surge. Water in the streets in the historic district up to windows. Was it us or was part of The Bridge of Lions covered by water? Smells Like flowers, give a report, please. Going to St. Augustine in February for The B Rox and 97's show. We go at least once a year. Hope all is well for you, SLF.
  21. I'm tired of living in a nation full of idiots. The amount of people that will believe this bullshit is not small. http://www.npr.org/2016/10/07/496996886/matt-drudge-suggests-government-may-be-lying-about-hurricane-matthew
  22. For those of us in Tampa, no issues, fortunately. The experts say rain and wind tomorrow, but shouldn't be too worrying. I have a 4 day weekend, Monday was already scheduled off, but schools closed tomorrow because some of our schools are designated as shelters for evacuees from Polk, a neighboring county to the east. Thanks for asking, Donna. Those on the east coast, be smart and do as you're told. Stay safe.
