Thank you. I appreciate the time you took to offer advice. I found a new Squire Stratocaster beginner combo pack that fit our budget. Again, thanks!

When you read his "greatest hits" all together, Trump's election is exasperating, infuriating and surreal all over again. "11 Times Donald Trump Looked Like He Was Done For" http://www.npr.org/2016/12/28/506342901/11-times-donald-trump-looked-like-he-was-done-for

Hello VC guitar players. My grandson, who will be 11 soon, wants a guitar for his birthday. His grammy and I are getting it and his folks are going to get him lessons. My questions are: 1) Is it better for him to learn on an acoustic or an electric? and 2) We don't want to spend too much money because, being a kid, who knows how long the guitar will interest him and he can always upgrade. Therefore, any suggestions on acoustics or electric/amp combos that will meet his need to learn on and ours to not spend more than $100-hopefully not $200? I appreciate any time given. Thank you.

I'm no photographer, but I hope you all don't mind me following tinnitus' lead and posting a few Iceland pics: Well, every picture I choose says "Error This file was to big to upload". I have no tech skills. Sorry.

The Country Living Fair every October. My wife is a Country Living magazine fan. It is at Stone Mountain. It has workshops, speakers, authors and such, but basically, it is a huge outdoor flea market for the moneyed class! My wife spends her money from teaching a yoga class after school once a week. We've been going every year for too damned long! I get away from home, see a bit of fall color and, most importantly, make my wife happy. I want to go to Iceland in the winter for the Northern Lights. The 24 hours of sunlight in the summer was weird.

We were in Iceland for 16 days in June. We rented a camper van and camped all over the island. In a country of amazing places, the Westfjords were number 1. I cannot recommend Iceland enough. Everywhere you look, you are in awe of the natural beauty. I wonder if tinnitus and I were ever in the same place at the same time, since we both were there in June? A few long weekends in Atlanta, St. Augustine and St. Pete, too. We are leaving Sunday to camp at Ft. Clinch State Park near Fernandina Beach for 3 days

These deserve to be asked of, and answered by, the president-elect: http://www.npr.org/2016/12/15/505630205/6-questions-we-would-have-asked-donald-trump-at-his-canceled-press-conference "6 Questions we would have asked Donald Trump at his canceled press conference".

When Life's Rich Pageant came out, my friends and I were loving Superman. One of my pals, who basically was/is Rob Gordon, waited until we were talking about how great the song was to smugly kick the k-knowledge. "Yeah, it's cool, but The Clique's original is the shit!".

Local NPR station or iPod on shuffle.

"You know, I'm, like, a smart person".

Agree. As stated, there are many quality New England breweries, so it doesn't fit that "local" ethos of the Festival. Beer is good.

Thanks. I wish I'd have gone to Spotify rather than You Tube. I tried to be objective but that video! The singer looks like Geddy Lee's half brother with worse hair and a better voice. I appreciated that he used his hands to demonstrate how a wheel turns when he sang "a wheel that turns". The song itself is not my cup of tea. I was always turned off by the bombast of many Nineties bands. "Our music is great and powerful and our lyrics are heavy!". The singing style of those 90's dudes is grating. Even Vedder can bug me sometimes with that serious delivery nonsense. C'est la vie.

To my knowledge, I have never heard Live. What is the one song I should hear in order to give them an honest shot?
-
Hahahahahahahaha! Well done and thank you.
-
Please elaborate. I am interested in the details.
-
Haha. I've known how they work, but I still chuckle at it.

This thread has been misunderstood by everyone but Winston Legthigh. I wasn't starting a thread about what band did the best version of "I Fought the Law". I came across the "Go go dancers" video and thought it was epic and needed to be shared. I guess I should have titled the thread "The Best 'I Fought the Law' Vdeo Performance",

Yeah, that's probably easy, but I'm using a picture of my wife and I in Iceland last summer. It is on my phone, not on a website. Tinnitusphoto pmed me a site for a sizing program. Going to give that a shot when I get time. I just clicked on that and the work filter blocked me and said it was pornography. If I get axed, I'm coming for you, A-man!

Finals are next week, so my students are studying, doing work for another class, or whatever. 2 were singing "One Way or another". I am certain that there is no way in hell that they ever heard of Blondie or good music in general. I asked them, "Who sings that song?". They gleefully replied in unison, "One Direction". Jesus H. Christ, it's true. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36mCEZzzQ3o

On that note, I have been digging both of your new avatars, so I decided to have an avatar after all of these years. I used the instructions under "profile', but no success. I'm not tech-savvy. I am using a picture on my phone and accessing VC with my phone. After I try to upload, I get "The file selected is too large. Max 100kB." The instructions say, "Once uploaded you can adjust your cropped image", but how can I adjust it if I can't upload it? I don't mean to threadjack, but would appreciate any help. Please feel free to pm or direct me to the appropriate thread. Thanks.

Could Lord Huron fill Lake Huron?

Yeah, those six snare cracks were inspired. I love the image of a Texas "rude boy" using a homemade gun in his ill-fated life of crime, though. It was equally inspired. If I could only listen to one version for the rest of my days, I'd have to go with The Clash. Thanks, ya'll. I'm enjoying talking about this.
-
If a video of The Clash tearing up "I Fought the Law" while surrounded by armed gogo dancers surfaces, mass viewing would result in peace on Earth. Also, "Robbing people with a zip gun", as Sonny Curtis originally sang it, is superior to "Robbing people with a six gun". Changing it, and therefore influencing all future cover versions, is the lone black mark on Bobby Fuller's legacy.
-
I was going to put this in the "I heard the cover before the original" thread, but I didn't want to sidetrack it more than I already have. This epic version is worth 2:15 of your time. The Bobby Fuller Four surrounded by energetic go go dancers packing heat should be required viewing. Kudos to the creative genius behind it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAprgEphm3A

Me too. Of course it's possible I heard Charlie and Ira's original when I was very young, as country records took up about half of our drive in's jukebox and mom always had country radio on. What a song. Of the Byrds' covers, I prefer Gram's to Roger's.
