  1. i laughed pretty heartily at the Mark Wahlberg Talks to the Animals skit. There was something so just random and ineffable about it.
  2. He sure didn't look good the other night. Couldn't even make it over to first to cover the bag. TWICE!
  3. Fair enough, plus there's the time zone thing.
  4. I have found that the best gifts are the ones that allow you to spend time with your loved ones. Most of the gifts we give Caliber's parents are our time--we give "gift certificates" for garden clean up, or flower planting or pruning or bulb planting, or leaf clearing. It gets us down there and grandma talks about all the nice things we did for her for months. My mother also doesn't want stuff--she wants face time. So that's what she gets--plus usually we will do something around the house (mostly outside related--landscaping etc) or we fix their computer or printer or whatever they've brok
  5. not breaking. Red Sox Nation got the memo yesterday.
  6. I would like the discount the entire devil business, but I cannot--they did have a big change when they became God's team. And, the DEVILrays have been cultivating some young players, bringing them up thru their system, much like the Red Sox do. I am sure it didn't hurt that when they started to win people actually went to that stadium to cheer them on. Maybe, though, it is the cowbells. and the dope who I can always hear on the NESN feed who sounds like a complete douchebag. Probably some combination of all of the above.
  7. I am comfortable with working on a new thread: this morning on NPR i heard some woman in Nevada say that she thought Sarah Palin was a class act. Now there are a lot of things that you can call her--ambitious, cute, funny, driven, aggressive, personable, whatever. But Class Act is definitely not among those descriptors.
  8. If that isn't a good omen, i don't know what is. Good work Pete!
  9. Full disclosure time: in the last three years of fantasy baseball, i have had at least as many tampa players (bj upton, aki and rocco, plus others) on my team than i have had red sox. I never had much respect for the team, but for the players it was a different story. Now it looks like they have gone a long way to turning into an actual baseball team, perhaps even a force to be reckoned with. bring it on.
  10. Well, if she does that she'll certainly appear to have a sense of humor. I just hope that the SNL people don't kowtow to her if she goes on the program. I hate it when they do that.
  11. Edie did a wilco inspired toast. maybe she'll post it.
  12. I better not have used up all my vibes on the chicago flavored teams, that's all i gotta say.
  13. That is certainly something to be proud of, but I'm sorry you didn't qualify for Boston. its overrated anyway! I think there's a marathon in baltimore next weekend--come to that one!
  14. you know what we have at fairs and festivals? fresh made donuts, hand cut french fries, sausage and pepper subs, fried dough, cotton candy, popcorn, candied apples, ice cream. Depending on how close you are to the ocean--lobster rolls and fried clams.
  15. keep digging. we will all know whom to blame.
  16. You better not have just made a jinx, you person, by invoking the name of a y@nkees player.
  17. You people in the middle of the country eat some weird shit at fairs and festivals.
  18. Caliber and I are definitely very lower middle class. I think what "creates" the moniker are a lot of things other than money, like maybe education, and opportunities? I have always thought that as an adult i was solidly middle class (because I have a college degree and I'm a white woman with many opportunities afforded to me), but the truth is we don't make the median family income here, and we eeked just above it in Providence. Folks forget that "affordable housing" is for people not who are necessarily on welfare, but who generally work for peanuts, like teachers, firefighters, cops, self-
  19. Records like that are meant to be broken.
  20. yes, but who puts the court there? it is all up to interpretation, you know that.
  21. He didn't teach at Harvard, did he? He taught at University of Chicago Law School. But your point still stands.
