  1. I get it alright I just don't like it. If I don't really like his work with Wilco why would I check out other material of his? I find his uber-noodling doesn't really fit in with Wilco but that's just my opinion. The next album will define who Wilco are for the next few years, unfortunately if it's more SBS style stuff I don't think I'll be listening to it, I've found most of the post SBS songs to be quite pedestrian as well so I really want to be proved wrong..
  2. No I haven't and I have no desire to really. I'm not writing off his solo stuff as I've never heard it, I just don't like his contributions to his first Wilco studio album. I thought Cline was a great addition post AGIB, especially on KT but dislike a lot of his noodling on SBS which I've stated here before. I'd like to be proved wrong but we'll see.
  3. No thanks, I'd find that really boring. Wasn't that the problem with SBS?

    Spanish Tour

Two thirds of Ulster is in Northen Ireland, one third in the Republic. Why not go to Donegal, Monaghan or Cavan and ask some of the locals if they're in the UK!!

    New album

You come across as a total cock caliber66, are most of your 13914 posts like these? Internet fora are good, they keep people like you off the streets. Don't get a life.

    New album

Yeah, us Irish have always thought the same thing... Why do Americans make verbs out of nouns, e.g. to de-plane etc. ??
  9. Thanks for the info Dave, unfortunately I won't be able to catch it though. I have it on DVD at home and have only watched it once since its release, waiting for the perfect night when the kids are fast asleep to watch it again in comfort... Didn't know they hosted films above Anseo...
  10. Read your blog and good to hear you enjoyed Galway. You're right Tigh Neachtain's does have the best pint of Guiness in town. You managed to spend most of your time in my three favourite bars, Roisin Dubh, The Crane and Tigh Neachtain's...Galway does have a great vibe, despite the weather. Even in the depths of winter there's always a good buzz around town. Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Ouch, looks like I touched a nerve with some people. Don

    I fear

I 'fear' that they've lost some of the creative spark that made them one of the best bands around and they'll never reach the heights they have done with all their reords bar SBS, which would be a great shame. I don't listen to the new stuff, it bores me. I never asked nor want them to 'tailor' their music to my tastes. Jesus...

    I fear

I'm not a very big fan of SBS, some good stuff in there but overall a very disappointing record. And very few of the other SBS era songs do much for me, Let's Fight, Let's Not Get Carried Away, Glad It's Over, One True Vine are all a bit pedestrian IMO. What's worrying is this vein of mediocrity seems to have caught on for quite a while now and I just wonder will the next album be more of the same... Kick Nels Cline out for a start and we might see some results... Discuss...
  14. I saw Jeff doing Walk On with some band at a gig on YouTube a few months ago, sounded good. My picks from one of my favourite Neil Young records, Lookin For A Lover and Barstool Blues.
  15. I'm from Galway originally and the Crane bar is my local when I'm back. They host traditional Irish and folk music regularly there, you'll really enjoy that gig. http://www.thecranebar.com/ Roisin Dubh is another good but bigger venue, recently done up but still quite small. http://www.roisindubh.net/ I won't be in Dublin when you're playing unfortunately but best of luck with the tour and visit. Bring your raincoat!

    Sky Blue Sky

One of my favourites from the record, reminds me a lot of Abbey Road era Beatles.

    Sky Blue Sky

I totally agree Lamrod and to each his own. I think the YHF demos are as good as the released album and they're more straightforward with less effects etc etc. As I've said before I like a good portion of SBS, it's just all Cline's twiddly noodling stuck onto the end of songs that bores me and actually takes away from some of the tracks. If that's Cline holding back then I have zero interest in the NC Singers (which I haven't heard and don't intend to). On another point Glenn Kotche must have been really bored making SBS, he's one of the best drummers around but it sounds like any drumm

    Sky Blue Sky

I don't think I'd bother to buy that album if that was the case. It'd bore me to tears....

    Sky Blue Sky

Some really interesting posts on this thread I don't hate SBS and really like about 5 tracks but where is the 'avante-garde' guitar on it? YHF and AGIB had more 'avante-garde' guitar and that had nothing to do with Cline. Maybe they should just wheel him out for the live shows...

    Sky Blue Sky

I was disappointed with SBS when it came out but thought there were some excellent tracks on it all the same. This thread inspired me to play it again after not listening to it for months and I now think it's worse than I previously thought. It contains some of the worst songs Wilco have recorded (Walken, Shake It Off) and Cline's uber-noodling taints some of the better songs. I welcomed his addition with AGIB but now am of the opinion the band would be better with him gone. The other SBS era tracks do little for me also. It would have been a great 5 track EP but I think it's their worst
  21. Misunderstood, I didn't take any offence. I just think the Magnetic Fields are equally 'deserving' as Wilco to be on the label. I prefer Wilco myself but somehow I see them going in different directions, Magnetic Fields 'on and on' up and Wilco down, especially after the disappointing noodling of Cline on Sky Blue Sky. Hopefully I'm completely wrong...we'll see with the next album.
  22. "I cannot think of a single western (i.e. non "world music") group of musicians other than Wilco that possesses the kind of unique genius, artistic quality, and creative consistency necessary to wear the Nonesuch paper cd sleeve".....eh, Magnetic Fields??
  23. Hmmm, you guys must all be living on another planet........anyone remember JOHNNY MARR!
