  1. Really??? Am I gonna be at Pitchfork alone???? LouieB
  2. It would do us all good...get one of those damn groups off the streets and into the studio.,.... LouieB
  3. I think I will wair for the real CD....I want this so badly to be special. Then again Mavis is a bit older than she used to be.... LouieB
  4. Yea, some of those bucket boys have some genuine talent and could use a high profile producer....mixed in with a high clase drone or a world class percussionist..you never know..... LouieB
  5. No need...but it would be interesting to hear from Jayson. LouieB
  6. In this case it was not vague at all. I was asking a 17 year old and a high school teacher. Kids in this case mean just what it says, anyone below the age of 18. It isn't irrelevant if a band is interested in selling records to teens, but since Wilco has never been a teen band, I don't think they were ever interested in selling to teens. They picked up plenty of teens who have decent taste (like MY previous teens), but those are fewer and further between as Wilco (The Band) also gets older. LouieB
  7. Yea, maybe they will busk just outside of Millenium Park on Michigan Ave right next to one of the bucket boy groups. LouieB
  8. Pitchfork is two days away and while it may not have the cachet it once did, I am still guessing people are going. I will be there selling LPs again, so stop by and see me. Maybe folks can post up their reviews and experiences. Hopefully it won't be too rainy or too freakin hot. I am sure it WILL be crowded. LouieB
  9. I think it is one of those things I need to do someday when I retire. It has always looked pretty cool to me, but not something I have done. LouieB
  10. I guess I should ask you...what are are kids listening to these days?? Well clearly Wilco is music for older folks. In the last few years the content of the lyrics has certainly been more geared to issues of maturity (relationships, personal feelings, nostalgia, grappling with internal life, etc.) A record label can do a few different things, not simply sell new music to new fans, although that would be nice. It can sell new music to older fans who continue to be fans, sell new music of other groups to new and old fans, or sell old music to old and new fans, if the rights are taken back f
  11. Who are the 17 year olds listening to this year? LouieB
  12. Uh yea...really. However you could take the South Shore Line to South Bend if you wanted to commute a really really long way. LouieB
  13. I think this is the year they have tried to get out to the rest of the world (not that they didn't do that before..) Actually I am still worn out from the residency. LouieB
  14. wow, someone else of my generation here.... I would agree....it was a stunt and old Harv fell for it every time it looks like to me. Admittedly I didn't see him on Letterman either, but I did read the comics. I think the comics best represent what Harvey was about. Letterman paraded (and continues to parade) a whole army of quirky characters on his show over the years and mostly it was to point out what fools they were, not how brilliant they were or are. Letterman is no dummy. He does it for laughs and mostly to show how cool he is. Yes, Harvey got in a few good ones now and again,
  15. I watched the Books vid after reading about them in the NY Times.... LouieB
  16. It is weird..... Being bummed about not being able to fill the UIC pavillion on a Monday night, I hope isn't the reason. LouieB
  17. For all his kvetching, Harvey was actually a pretty lucky guy. He got the recognition he deserved and had a great movie made about him. (My sister has a 10 second extra take in the movie too.) His comics were picked up by major publishers and he got to be on national (and international) TV. That he was one of Letterman's quirky people was a bit of a disserve to his talent and intellect. He was a great jazz critic as well. His passing is sad; Cleveland now has zero celebs. LouieB
  18. I have checked them out. I have seen them a couple times at least (and Bobby Broom more than that). They are regulars at jazz fest and play the Green Mill about every week. I am not bad rapping them at all, just saying that two sets when others only get one seems excessive. But then again they have been dragged all the way from Chicago, so I guess they need the work. LouieB
  19. Maybe....He could always simply cover himself..... Southern Man Revolution Blues Heart of Gold Ohio etc. etc..... LouieB
  20. The lastt two records did NOT suck.... LouieB
  21. This is very sad. Now Cleveland has no celebs. I was lucky enough to meet Harvey a few years ago and have sign a comic book for a friend. We talked a short while about this and that. He lived a couple blocks from my sister in Cleveland Heights. He had been very sick I guess and his cancer had returned. Life is entirely too short. LouieB
  22. Cover albums are what artists do in the latter parts of their careers (sometimes earlier and sometimes to great effect...) Why not do a covers album? What else do they have to do? LouieB
  23. As always...check out any of the Numero Group's Eccentric Soul series...much of which is on really nice vinyl and all of which have great liner notes. LouieB
  24. It is worth a shot....actually Apple put out lots of records and ran well to a point... I just really like Nonesuch as a label...lots of class acts on it, but if Wilco wants to branch out, well they have plenty of fans. LouieB
