  1. You are correct sir....but how many more times do I need to hear Suite Judy Blue Eyes? Actually some of the material from the Deja Vu I like better. There is nothing at all wrong with either album. I have listened to them countless times that is all and many of the songs continue to be played endlessly on XRT and other classic rock stations. 2. I gotta be honest. I listened to both CSN(Y) original albums until I don't care if I ever hear them again. And Four Way street just plain sucks. Subsiquent CSN albums are way bad. This box set would be way way way at the bottom of any list of stuff I had to have, even if I did see this tour. Forty years on there just isn't any place in my brain for hearing these guys. They were part of my youth (quite literally, since I was a camp counselor when the first CSN album came out, I remember it like yesterday). It was great stuff then. Just no longer vital to me. Not being a grouchy old guy.
  3. I don't know if they were the first group to consistantly do arenas. I don't think so. I saw several shows at the Chicago Stadium during the 70s. The show was expensive for then (no idea what it cost), since I had little money in those days. But the show was really long and in fact got kind of slow in places. There were all sorts of break-outs with Stills and Young playing together, Crosby and Nash playing together, solo stuff, etc. I would have to say I was thrilled to see them at the time, but I would not consider seeing anyone but Neil these days and even him I find expensive, even t
  4. 08-27 Chicago, IL Chicago Stadium 08-28 Chicago, IL Chicago Stadium 08-29 Chicago, IL Chicago Stadium I am pretty sure I saw one of these.....fun show, but things consistiantly picked up when Neil was with the group or did a solo number. LouieB
  5. I may have seen a date on this tour, Chicago Stadium. It was a very long time ago, but I know I saw them in those years. LouieB
  6. I casually monitor this thread to see if folks are still reading it and I am sometimes both shocked and pleased that they still do. If you have accessed this thread, gotten this far, and have suggestions and recommendations, I know I would appreciate feedback and further suggestions from those who visit. What was your experience?? What kind of interesting things did you find or do and what would you avoid in the future. I know some people have different experience and interests and I am constantly learning new things about the city. So if you can log back on after experiencing Chicago,
  7. The remaining half hour of the first Huntsville jam wasn't any better after you left. You should have stuck around though. It really wasn't that bad for what it was and in another setting and even without 1/3 of Wilco it might have been okay, but honestly it is hard to figure out what exactly the folks booking Millenium Park were thinking with this entire bill. Even the On Fillmore set this was pretty challenging music for someone wanting some free entertainment out on the lawn on a beautiful summer's evening; maybe folks coming off a food bender at Taste. Had it not been Nels and Glenn (p
  8. No real idea. Glenn??? My old friend John and I commented to each other that it was reminicent of something the Art Ensemble used to do. Actually if you take a plastic tube and and spin it around like that it makes a pretty cool whirring noise. If you have any old madical equipment that has that sort of thing attached like a resporator tube, try it out. I thought all the small intruments (toys really) including the hand clappers and the chicken peckers were pretty oool too. As for Huntsville, I think the guys need a some personality lessons. Simply mixing in the natural (sex??) appeal
  9. Actually it sounds fairly uncool from the descriptions I have heard. Demme has made some great music movies, but the word is that he will have other folks play Alejandro's songs. Maybe there are issues with the production, because it has been talked about for a few years. Maybe it just didn't coalese, who knows. I hope it is cool though. he deserves something good. LouieB
  10. Rather than start a new thread, let's just roll with this one. Really fun show. I nearly bailed after On Fillmore, but as it turned out, Nels and Glenn played with Huntsville (what stupid name....) and I am glad I didn't. On Filmore was clearly well rehearsed and played a 45 minute set of intriguing and complex numbers (maybe someone other than me knows the names, maybe only the band...) to a small crowd at Millenium Park on beautiful night. There were probably about four or five distinctly different pieces, a couple of which merged into one another. A great performance. Huntsville ca
  11. Sadly it appears Kevin's time has past. There may be a used copy of the Chamber Strings second CD at Lauries and they are easy to find online. His new songs are all excellent, but due to the flakey record biz, it had no buyers. LouieB
  12. I am already downtown waiting for ths...well not quite waiting, since I am not at the park yet. Frea...YEAH!! Actually coming out for this show would be alot of money for a relatively short show I am guessing. Nels and Glenn are opening for some Norwegian group. They should be headlining, but so it goes. Atleast it is a big time opening slot in beautiful Millenium Park. I can't imagine it will be very crowded, since most folks will be over at Taste, but I am going to bet a few non-fans will stop by to digest. LouieB
  13. Anyone know when the Johnathan Demme movie on him is coming out? LouieB
  14. I can't believe people are bitching about this. Wilco and the other members bands are playing, Mavis Staples and a whole bunch of other cools stuff. This isn't a residency, it ia a fest that Wilco is helping to curate. How cool is that?? LouieB
  15. I don't know where this thing is actually housed, but I was it once at the CMA here in Chicago. It has to be one of the weirdest pieces ever... LouieB
  16. Maybe we should start a thread for Fred Anderson who died yesterday too. He is lumped in with the jazz thread. Not part of a famous rock band, but still... LouieB
  17. Time flies when the family is making money... LouieB
  18. Actually he should be court marshalled.... LouieB
  19. Finally one i kind of agree with. Pet Sounds is the greatest flawed album of all time. Sloop John B....puleez.... Highway 61 Revisited....but I suppose someone has said that... LouieB
  20. As a result they will not be appearing at the Crossroads Fest here in Chicago this weekend. Let this be a lesson to you youngsters.... LouieB
  21. The moral of the story.... Don't hang out and get loaded with a reporter from Rolling Stone... LouieB
  22. I bought a copy of the mono box set (used and cheap....thanks Lauries) for the heck of it and realized recently nearly all my older Beatles LPs (prior to Rubber Soul) are mono anyway. Go figure. LouieB
  23. The system knows who votes and who didn't? I have fixed this.. and voted. LouieB
