  1. More consolidation is certainly in the cards, but then again the music industry has been consolidating for the better part of two decades. Luckily music keeps being released by independent and semi-independent sources. Is the music industry "too big to fail"?? I dunno, everything seems on the verge of collapse all the time. LouieB
  2. Thanks for proving I am illiterate.... I would suggest his first, Intrumentals. All of them are good and fairly similar to this one. LouieB
  3. Over half the material is religious...as expected I guess. This should be good. LouieB
  4. Well yes it IS huge...thanks. Is it credited on the CD case? I didn't see anything? Really great photos. At first I thought it was some part of Nel's equipment. LouieB
  5. Actually I am totally sympathetic to Israel. I have consistantly said that Israel has a right to exist and security, and it isn't going away. I also know that the Palestinians are partially at fault because they refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist. The idea of non-violence resistance has to be coupled with a desire not only for an actual nation, but also that they are ready to live side by side with Israel. And certainly Israel has made overtures that teh Palestinians have not accepted. The second Intifada came at a crucial juncture which ended talks. But Israel also can not g
  6. I finally got around to listening to these two disks the other day. Great stuff. I particularly like the packaging for these CDs. Can anyone tell me if the round electronic thingees that are part of the graphics are real devices or imaginary ones? The live material is good, but seems a bit under recorded. I really like Thurston Country. LouieB
  7. That was my experience too, but then again I have only seen him once. LouieB
  8. I guess I should have known that, but you are never too old to learn something you didn't know. LouieB
  9. what does satyagraha mean...?? The problem with the Israeli/Palestinian issue is that it will always be a problem until everyone involved decides it isn't. Sure Israel was not a country before WWII, but then again alot of countries in that part of the world were not countries prior to WWII. (Also countries in lots of parts of the world...) Okay so that is a problem. And so as Helen Thomas suggested the Israelis can all go back to their original countries (Poland, Germany, other parts of the Mideast, North Africa, Ethiopia, the US, etc.) and yes the Palestinians have some grievances (but
  10. Cooder's album was sort of a concept thing. I am sure Tweedy album will be great. Her Aligator album is also very fine, as is her Hideout album. LouieB
  11. Whatever Elton's motivations, it is very fucked up... Also....regarding Israels conscription.....Israeli Arabs are exempt too. Gays however can serve openly. LouieB
  12. Sorry if anyone feels misquoted. Once again Orthodox women and men do not serve in the military unless they choose, which means not ALL men and women are drafted. NO matter what the Pixes do(and they can do whatever they choose) I think we can all agree that peace in the mideast (well that little slice along the Mediteranian where the Palestinians and Israelis live) should be a world priority and everyone concerned needs to de-militarize on both sides. Actually the Elton John story is more troubling than anything the Pixes do or don't do. Elton John certainly doesn't need the money and
  13. My Kingdom for a Car- Phil Ochs Hot Rod Lincoln...lots of people. LouieB
  14. Actually this is not exactly true either, which is why pegging Israel is some sort of society that has no diversity is totally inaccurate. Ultra-orthodox Jews do not have to serve in the military. The ONLY country in the world that has a manditory (military) draft? I will leave it to someone else to debunk this. LouieB lThanks for debunking this statement..I didn't read your post before I answered. LouieB
  15. Without getting too much into this, things are different in the West Bank and Gaza, since the Palestinian government is run by different organizations in each. The Palestinian Authority in the West Bank is not viewed as a terrorist organization, whereas Hamas is viewed as such. Is it or isn't it? Honestly I don't know, but Hamas takes a much different tact on the existance of Israel.) Also there are plenty of people in Israel who are interested in peace with the Palestinians. It is a very diverse and relatively free society. That does not mean that their government is any different than O
  16. I wish she would come play for humans sometime.... LouieB
  17. There may be more songs about cars than anything else (except women). Every week on Car Talk they play a new one. LouieB
  18. Yea, all that right wing prophecy stuff could be the reason or it could be the same old political reason; that no one from the right wing nut jobs through the slightly leftish side wants to mess with the Israel lobby and the Jewish vote. Nor is anyone really serious about telling both the Israelis and the wacked out Palestinians that is time to cut the crap, demilitarize, and finally work out a two state solution that the entire world can live with long term. It is way too profitable to keep selling arms to both sides and scoop up all the mideast oil we can. Palestinians could have a stat
  19. Robbie Fulks wrote a great song in tribute to the Bangles....it is better with the actual tune. LouieB A long time ago in south California, oh oh way oh In the land of the tall jacaranda, oh whoa-da way oh. Lived a girl group singing pop-rock favorites, oh oh way oh So good that they soon got famous, oh whoa-da way oh. Their sound and looks I liked the first time I saw them When the little one took the mike, I knew I'd fallen I like the Bangle girl/She's too groovy I love the way she sings and I/I saw her movie. I like the Bangle girl/And I'm not joking I wanna be her friend, and there

  22. There first full length LP is excellent. I have never seen the EP. LP number two is less good, but not bad. Glad to hear Susanna is still looking good. (Meanwhile the LPs themselves don't cost $25 and are not very difficult to find.) LouieB
