Time passes too quickly. I heard a Summerteeth number on a mix this weekend and must admit it made me sad. Jay did do some crazy unusual stuff with Wilco. What a shame. LouieB

Train in Vain and Euro Trash come to mind for me too. Isn't there a hidden track or two on Mathew Sweet's Girlfriend? LouieB

Guess you had to be there!! One of my faves too. I would recommend any of the first three Atlantic records. Those are the ones that made him famous and many of the songs were covered by singers who were his peers. Bruised Orange is a good record, but I would start with those others first. His best later album is The Missing Years. Listen for the incredible Steve Goodman on guitar on the early albums. LouieB

Yea, at a certain point it was simply good to see him, since he certainly was a legend. I saw him at the Jazz Showcase when it was at the Blackstone, I think? He was older by then, but still a force. I also can't completely remember, but I am pretty sure i saw the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band at Jazz Fest one year. Crap is all starting to run together in my memory. LouieB

Don't taze me bro..... DTMFA is advice that Dan Savage gives all the time. Of course he gets paid tons to give that advice, which is different than us scumbags here at VC. LouieB

During my review of a daycare center today, the director told me some mother here in the neighborhood where I am is parading her 13 year old around the streets with a box around him that says "I am a thief". Yikes.... LouieB

Oh yea, that's right. I remember telling SarahC she needed to make sure to see him. He is Bert is playing club dates (one in Chicago) which is pretty amazing since he rarely tours. Well that's not too bad, but considering what Neil charges it still seems kinda short. LouieB

I used to see movies at the Palace in Albany when I lived there back in the early 60s (I was a kid then...). 18 songs? Was there an opener or did he talk whole lot? That seems like a kind of short show. Louie B

Wow....I WAS making a joke on this one, but on the other one...well....we hashed that one out and discovered that the person asking for advise had no business asking if they weren't going to be honest about the REAL problem. Someone on THIS thread has a problem obviously and it isn't the person asking advise. LouieB

I agree with the first point. That is the one thing most people do know about that he was involved with. Apparently they did play together (from Wikipedia only..not from my records..) but not often and not as often as he would have liked. Amazingly he lived longer than the other brothers although he was the oldest (and born in Mississippi.) And of the three brothers he was certainly the least famous. I may have seen him at jazzfest, but really can't recall. I did see the other two. LouieB

It is amazing that with the long history he had of playing with all the jazz greats and coming from the family he did, that the Marilyn incident got such play. Kind of stupid really. Actually looking through his discography this AM I don't believe I have him on very many records either, but it is worth noting he worked with Joe Lovano within the last 10 years. LouieB

Yea, after that entire dust-up I am surprised anyone comes and asks advice here. I am still having nightmares about that other thread. LouieB

I guess it is up to me to mention the passing of Hank Jones, one of the last of a generation of jazz musicians nearly gone. Lots of info on him all over the web, etc. He was actually the elder brother of the Thad and the more famous Elvin (of the historic Coltrane quartet.) He played with all the greats. LouieB

YOu beat me to the better CCR rain song. Levee breaks is also with Memphis Minnie (and bob dylan) LouieB

Happy 50th... I wish I liked Russell Crow. He has been in terrific movies (and some dogs) but I just can't relate to him. LouieB

Yea, I guess I should have mentioned it was a used copy.....yea me and the Stones really had it rough back in the 1860s...... As for Mick. What did he lose money on? Alimony? LouieB
-
Considering my LP copy cost me $2.50 I don't see much reason to buy a new vinyl one either.... And we know how much Mick needs the money.... LouieB

Well the recording itself if kind of muddy anyway I think, so unless they drastically remixed it (a la parts of All Things Must Pass) it should sound about the same. LouieB
-
So how is it compared to the LPs? I really don't think I will rebuy this, despite the nice booklet. LouieB

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
No trip to Chicago should be completed without taking a ride or two to the end of one of the el lines and back. I have not had any reason to take the Green line, but this is a great suggestion. (I have recommended the Brown and Orange lines...) The green line does run through some pretty interesting neighboorhoods on both the south and west sides. It is certainly a good way to see these parts of town if you don't have a car. Someday I need to do this. The Green line runs down the middle of Bronzville, past IIT and into some of the neighboroods I mentioned in my post. Meanwhile the western -

just a bunch of blues guys trying to hang on to the Stones coat tails. Who do they think they are??? On a slightly more serious note, Greg Kot wrote a long article in the Trib today about the reissue of Exile including an interview with Keith. LouieB

I saw that too. I haven't kept track of the tour schedule so I was curious. Looks like the touring is over after South Adams. Perhaps that means we can see everyone's bands in our local clubs next fall. LouieB

I noticed an ad for this show in the Onion yesterday advertising this as the last show in the midwest in 2010. I guess the and is either taing a well deserved vacation or going into the studio or both. LouieB
