The Third Annual Umbrella Music Festival is going on this week in Chicago. There should be some crazy cross national music pollination going on, nearly all of it featuring Chicago musicans and Europeans. I plan to try and hit a night or two of this, particularly the Hideout next Saturday. Anyone else going?? LouieB

So what happens after tomorrow? Do we start a new thread? Unless something really exciting happens, this does appear to be the last election thread..... LouieB

If the permit says no music, there will be no music. I really don't think they will bring in a band after the city is spending all kinds of dough on security, etc. I could be wrong. I fully expect Wilco to play an inagural party however. LouieB

Why don't they just get the old group back together, I mean really.... LouieB -
So let's see...who are you voting for then?? If it is McCain, then you get he whole neo-con package, sad to say, since the Republicans have totally lost touch with their true conservatism. (Or are you a Ron Paul or Libertarian type conservative?? If so feel free to vote for a wacko third party candidate....at least you aren't voting for McCain.) Meanwhile the actual Republicans have been SO SO SO fiscally conservative these past 8 years. I actually saw a similar story a couple nights ago before this story broke about a couple where the wife is from Sweden (legal) and didn't know she could

Oh fuck.....RIP Studs....one of the true greats. This sucks but he had a really great life. I have a story about Studs. Several years ago I was in Lincoln Square at the Sulzer Regional Library with my family and Studs and his wife got out of a cab right in front and looked confused. I asked if he needed assistance and he said he was looking for the Old Town School of Folk Music. The OTS had rehabbed the old regional Hild Library that had stood empty for years and the day I ran into him the OTS was having an opening. So I directed Studs back up the street a couple blocks to the correct

There Barack goes, pandering to the center again.... I have no problem with people having guns, I just have a problem with people who are nuts having guns..... LouieB

Totally.....lofi always makes me feel good...some old blues, some old country...some traditional jazz .whatever....from the 1920s or 30s. (and I am not so old that I remember this stuff from the first time out either.... ) LouieB

Shit I am not THAT old....The Cure has been around for over 20 years. (I like the Smiths better.....Rosie and I have an inside joke about the Cure being a poor man's Smiths, because someone once told her that the Smiths were a poor man's Cure........................ guess you had to be there....) I'm tellin ya, this is absurd..... If these folks are looking for corruption they should look no further than the Daley machine and the IL powerbrokers, but as I mentioned, in IL these guys are all in bed together (major cluster fuck territory here...) so it is not to their advantage to call out Barack on being part of what is system wide corruption. These tenuous connections to Ayers and Rashid Khalidi (who has been on news shows representing the Palestinian cause for years..)is just ridiculous and has no traction with anyone but the most cynical of right wingers... What is bizarre about all this is that there is plenty to try and smear Barack with if you simply read the Chicago Tribune and the ongoing coverage of the Governor and his associates. The indictment of Bill Cellini, a power broker for both the Dems and the Republicans will become national news as Obama takes office. To this point not much has come to light to stain Barack's reputation and hopefully nothing will, but if all you are going on is innuendo and speculation, there is plenty here, rather than making up bizarre shit about Barack's background or even trying to tie him to Bill Ayers.

The Complete Arista Recordings of Anthony Braxton
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
Now that I have pulled you in, my work is done.... Usually Mosaic doesn't cover this type of music, so this is pretty special. LouieB -
Who is your second?? Need a guide?? LouieB

Dinosaur Swamp was their second. Speaking of Jerry Goodman, he went over to the Mahavishnu Orchestra and made some fine music over there for awhile. Wonder what ever happened to him?? (I just checked wikipedia and I guess he is still around and has recorded on 50 albums.....) Only old guys like us care about such stuff.... LouieB

Isn't the internet amazing. While checking out info on the Cline Brothers new albums on here I checked out the Greenleaf Music website, since they are handling these releases and while checking their site out I found a note that Mosaic has released all of the Anthony Braxton material on Arista, which is long out of print. While I doubt I will buy these, it is really great that this material has re-surfaced and is available again. Life is very short...it seems like only yesterday that I bought several of these (many had already been cut out) and was lucky enough to see Anthony in those da
