  1. totally worth it then.....It could be a train wreck, but even that would be entertaining.... LouieB
  2. Have fun while you are here...check this thread out for info on Chicago. Unless you coped a pass to the actual event I am not sure what you will see, except lots of people. Good luck. LouieB
  3. LouieB

    Woah!

Time Flies when you are having fun....I think I was there... LouieB
  4. Somewhere in between.....Its a Beautiful Day and Sea Train and The Flock. Really old stuff....any old time string band stuff. LouieB
  5. Worth about $5 only....not 10.... both covered it from Wilbert Harrison of course... LouieB
  6. it may well be true that it is the case in Alaska. I think states can decide so you could be correct. Any scenario that involves a Senator Palin is too scary for words.... All I can say is I really hope Palin simply disappears. I am so effng sick of her.... LouieB
  7. If nothing else, this is super cool technology.... LouieB
  8. Usually the governor of a state gets to appoint a US Senator that leaves office, but it could be different in Alaska. Here in IL Blagovich will be able to select a new senator if Obama wins (he may pick himself???!!?!?). So depending on the rules in Alaska, Palin could even appoint herself if Stevens wins and is then sent to prison. Hopefully he will simply lose. LouieB
  9. I found the Obama infomercial very moving. Of course I am a true believer so that would figure. But at least his rhetoric is very warm and fuzzy and is centered around uniting the country rather than tearing it apart any further. (no mention of his opponents at all.) I said in another posting somewhere in this mess that after the election the rhetoric will change (just as Clinton made nice with Obama last night) and McCain will be conciliatory and nice about Barack after tearing him a new one each day. But I think it is going to be pretty difficult for Palin to back down from her frenzy af
  10. Chicago finally hit 2.99. Downstate is cheaper. LouieB
  11. CD baby is pretty cool. Sometimes they send extra CDs of crap artists just to get rid of them. LouieB
  12. Amazing isn't it.....I have lost an old and close friend who believes Obama is going to destroy Israel right off that bat. I guess this election is a rorchach test of sorts for all the wackos.... I was wrong about Radiohead. All those not voting for Obama should listen to Ted Nugent instead on election night instead of Wilco, since he IS a big McCain fan. LouieB
  13. I know people who have tried, but it is a tough one to come by. They are now gone... LouieB
  14. Come on up...read the thread on what to do in Chicago in the meantime... Meanwhile four years is a long time, but I can't wait for a Palin-Obama debate. You betcha.... LouieB
  15. Sadly the news is no music at the Grant Park event, so no Wilco. But you can share Grant Park with a million people if you so choose... LouieB
  16. Let's lighten up things a bit, now that we are down to the wire.... The folks at Archeophone Records have brought together 22 wax cylinders from the Taft and Bryan election of 1908. These folks have done great work and for all you history buffs, you might want to check this out. I have not heard this material, but I am sure it would be rather interesting to hear William Howard Taft and William Jennings Bryan battle it out for posterity on the only available technology at the time, brought to us by the Edison Company. Undoubtedly things haven't changed all that much in the last 100 years,
  17. I certainly recommend the Robie Fulks; and Shrunken Head by Ian Hunter which has some cameos by our own Jeff Tweedy on it and is certainly worth $5. Spooked by Robyn Hitchcock is not one of his better efforts, despite nice back-up from Gillian Welsh, but it is okay at 5 bucks. LouieB
  18. Here at the People's Republic of Chicago it is about the same, but most of the unopposed (or barely opposed) are Democrats. At least I get to vote for Jan Shakowsky as my rep (9th congressional)..that always feels good. I gave a bunch of (probably worthless) Greens a whirl however.... LouieB
  19. I am not nearly as cantankerous as I am made out to be, but I do buy beers for VCs all the time...you have one coming... Actually his begging for money on his website and then ripping Obama is ridiculous. This guy can't organize his way out of a paper bag..... I have no idea why we are still arguing about this, but your response seems reasonable. No one governs anything (country, state, city, organization of any kind) from the margins and the fringes. It doesn't happen. (For a good example of trying to govern look to Israel, a culture with a multi-party system...it can't form a gov
  20. He was WAY more serious than Ralph Nader.....read something about him...he ran under the banner of an actual third party five times (Ralph hasn't stuck with one through any of his three runs) and even ran when he was in prison. Debs was a significant labor leader and thinker. I am not arguing with you any more about this. Obama has Illinois wrapped up so go for it. Or Cynthia McKinney is in town today making the rounds. I am sure she needs an audience. LouieB
  21. Gompers was head of the American Federation of Labor, not nearly as radical as the IWW. LouieB
  22. Gompers Park..... Chicago is simply not far enough along to name a park after one of the leaders of the Pullman strke. LouieB
  23. Changing my words in a quote that's cut is just plain tacky..... Maybe bobbob you simply hadn't earned any respect since you couldn't make up your mind (see David Sedaris.....) on what seems a fairly simple decision. Next time agonize over shit in private.... LouieB
