$20 for the Bottle was a bit steep, but what the heck. I bought a vinyl copy of the new album last night, so that may get played this weekend. LouieB

Clearly we will never know, but jumping in the Mississippi drunk isn't a good career move, but then again, it kind of was.... LouieB

Oh yea, I am getting a laptop, so as long as I am somewhere with wireless I may sneak in during the day. Thanks. LouieB

After several years of struggling at work with some unpleasantness, two days ago I got word that a requested transfer to a different division at my agency has been approved. For all you young'ins, don't think that simply having experience will alieviate the possibility that you won't get shit at work. I can vouch for that. Anyway, my new position, starting the beginning of July, is field based, freeing me from the confines of my grubby cubicle with the rock posters tacked to the wall. Therefore I won't be using VC as a way to kill the bordom and frustration of daily worklife anymore after

On a whim I decided to hit the early show of The Sea and Cake at the Empty Bottle last night. I like these guys and had seen Sam and Archer do a duet once and Archer open for Jeff at the Vic way back when, but this was my first time seeing the band. I made a faux pas early in the evening, having snuck into the Bottle to check out the ticket situation (it was sold out on the website) and walked around to the front door and asked the guy sitting there about tickets only to realize the moment the words came out of my mouth that it was Archer Prewitt himself chilling by the door. More than a bi

Yes it was...I was 17 when it came out..one of the best years of my life. The cover was a large part of the allure, but the songs and the arrangements were also important. Most of us had never heard anything like that before and frankly there wasn't much like that before. But teasing out the messages in the songs and the pictures on teh cover kept us busy for hours. Sure Revolver and Rubber Soul have held up better, but SP was such a product of its time that it will always be remembered fondly. I can't wait for the 50th anniversay of all this stuff (summer of love, etc.), if we make

I believe you are correct. My understanding it is with the Grant Park Symphony. A free Wilco show there could be quite a circus at this point.' LouieB

That thread had degenerated into a random thought thread. The actual argument had long since petered out. I was surprised to see it closed, but frankly no harm done on that account. LouieB

Well as I always remind people, I actually remember some of this......but yea, I wouldn't mind going back sometimes....it was certainly a simpler time and vinyl records were a bunch cheaper than now. (but so was everything....$10,000 a year was a ton of money in the 60s.) LouieB

If you are cool and talk to people who know in PRIVATE, you might find out where it is, but posting up here will only get you shit answers. Frankly I can't imagine why you need to know. The outside is fairly non-descript and it looks like hundreds or even thousands of brick warehouses. Good luck. LouieB

Nice poncho (is that a real poncho or a Sears poncho??) People really knew how to dress back then. LouieB

I was quite shocked (and pleased) to see how good the quality was on this particular clip. The re-runs of the Monkees they play on the off channel here in Chicago look like an old color photo from the early 60s, very badly faded. LouieB

Traveling Wilburys albums to be reissued
LouieB replied to Col. Hapablap's topic in Someone Else's Song
I know this is an old thread, but I have seen this LP for far less than that even in recent months. The vinyl market has inflated way beyond what much of it is worth (or will be worth a couple years from now.) LouieB -
It is the first one on the DVD. But unlike other copies, this one is very clear. I am sure even if you see it on the actual show it is pretty washed out by now. LouieB

I bought this and watched muchof it last night. Many of the performances were previously available on another bootleg version, but these versions are amazingly clear and wonderful. The talking heads aspect between songs with Larry Becket, Lee Underwood and David Browne the writer of Dream Brothers are uneven at best, particularly the material from David Browne who is irritating and who's observations are mostly obvious. Back in the bad old days, not everyone had a video camera, so most of these performances are from various TV appearances and some are a stitch. Anyone who likes Jeff, but d

At least someone here knows what the hell I am talking about. Illinoise is maddeningly devoid of any musical tension produced by the music being slightly off the beat. LouieB

Sufjan is still the most syncopation deficient artist I know. LouieB

Has anyone checked out the new Tim Buckley DVD?? I plan to pick it up. It is an actual official set of various performances and is supposed to be stunning. (But then again I am more of a Tim fan than a Jeff fan.....not to restart that old argument.) LouieB

Yea, me too..that was crap at any speed. LouieB
