Not to keep promoting 2 Cow (but why not??), stay tuned to GloNo for what will be some interesting acoustic songs from the two songwriters in the group and also an interview with the band that was shot last night. Tonight we are shooting part of the show at the Hideout, which should also be very fun. LouieB

It seems a bit crazy to dismiss Tom Waits out of hand. I can understand having mixed feelings about the guy at times, but he is a true original and not worthy of the kind of rejection DeRogotis has expressed, particulary since he wrote the book on Lester Bangs, a guy who often championed the strange and unusual . Along with What Light, Walken is now in heavy rotation on XRT. Everyone should note that Wilco is the featured artist this Friday along with The Cure. Not bad. LouieB

I guess that means you won't be signing that other guy's petition. LouieB

This is a very cool film John did despite being "inexperienced, drunk, and full of passion." LouieB

Well if you ever come to Chicago to see them, the first beer is on me. They get even better with a few beers. LouieB

Your point being?? Bands change, some albums people like more than others. Feel free to listen to the Jay Bennett era albums all you want. If you don't like SBS or AGIB, don't listen to them or don't buy them or whatever. You are entitled to you opinion, but how on earth is Jeff Tweedy supposed to work with someone he no longer gets along with?? More people than not would love to see an Uncle Tupelo reunion, but it ain't gonna happen; same thing, people change, time to move on. You can't reheat a souffle as McCartney said about the Beatles. (For a totally misguided attempt to rec

Since you think AM is so great (and it is) why not save the time and just ask for Jeff to rehire Brian Henneman instead since Jay wasn't even in the group then....... (I can't believe I am even responding to this....) LouieB

There is really nothing to appologize for. It isn't necessary to like everyone out there. They are just a bunch of young guys trying to make a go of it, playing some cowpunk and not quitting, despite everything. Just remember if you see them to take some earplugs..they turn up their amps really high. Fun guys to talk to also. LouieB

This one I have to chalk up to Rosie (formerly Tweedy's Gurl) for asking to go. Frankly I would not have gone, but after being a Smith's fan and liking some of Morrissey's solo work, I figured what the heck, let's check his show out. It is always fun to go to the Auditorium, site of so many special Wilco shows (not to mention seeing Springsteen and Zappa there back in my youth.) There was a capacity crowd, although I don't believe it sold out. We ended up in row S of the first balcony, which despite being kind of far back. the entire set up of the Auditorium is so cool it didn't feel that

Two things..... 1. Nearly everything we hear has to do with how we relate to an artist on a personal level. Two Cow Garage is no exception. After seeing them, talking to them, and knowing that these guys are major road warriors, it becomes easier to think of them as the guys down the block who have been practicing in their garage and really want to suceed. This is as true for 2Cow as it is for Wilco. There are artists I know I am really supposed to like, but just can't get around to relating to (Elliot Smith for example, who I even have a couple of his CDs but just never get around to li

You gotta give the guy credit for one thing...he sure knew how to organize his base. I have always said there are far fewer differences on the right side of the spectrum than on the left. Leftists will slit each others throats over small sectarian differences of opinion, but those on the right are unified by a fairly unified set of beliefs that usually boil down to hating a relatively small number of things and then not giving up for anything. RIP Jerry....his personal profile on the scene decreased considerably in recent years, but his influence continues unabated. LouieB

Tape decks are going the way of VCRs...better pick up a used one soon. LouieB

My family wanted to get my one of these turntables but I said no, I will just listen to my LPs on my old 1970s era equipment. LouieB
-
Isn't that the same thing? That was my point!! Personally I am not a freak about this either way, I like CDs and LPs and there are advantages and disadvantages to both. LouieB
-
When you say USB, I am assuming we are talking about transferal of LPs to digital media. I understand this for purposes of archiving and preserving the original disks, but it also doesn't really bode all that well for folks listening to analog recordings on a regular basis. What is the point of complaining about how bad CDs sound and then turning analog recordings into digital? There is every reason in the world for turning rare analog recordings into digital, since the preservation of the sounds on a disk that are deteriorated by mechanical playing needs to be done, but simply turning run

The current uptick on vinyl is a temporary blip. Statisitcally there may be an increase, but that is only because so few LPs were sold for awhile and at the moment there is a run on them (which also has inflated the use LP market as well.) Unfortunately the future of vinyl is probably as bleak as that of CDs. EVentually both will be bought by collectors only, rather than your mainstream music listener. LouieB

Thanks to Sam and the rest of the Laurie's crew for a great time. The Late Greats did a fabulous job with their own set and then playing behind us lousy singers. They continue to get more and more proficient at all the Wilco songs. What a gas, what a night. LouieB

Happy Birthday!!! Sorry I am late. LouieB

Come on over, I have met a few folks from outside the USA there.....even the bar itself is a trip, mirrored walls and ceiling, a couple long curvy bars circa 1950s, and all sorts of folks just dropping in for a drink from the neighborhood. Oh yea, they have a great juke box too, with lots of soul music on it. LouieB

When did it become cool to hate Pat Metheny... LouieB

Yea, me either. Had I not had to go get Rosie the next day (and meet with Brother Ray's school counselor at 7 AM the next morning), I would have stayed alot longer. jc-glad you got to see him. the manifest thing sounded fun, but I was pretty much out of town. LouieB

This may be the best Eagles album the Eagles never made
LouieB replied to ewapotwood's topic in Just A Fan
We periodically have this discussion and you are absolutely correct. They are far from my favorite band, but what they did (even after Joe Walsh showed up) was pretty amazing. They are a big fat rich target, but they made great singles and decent albums and really don't deserve the kind of abuse they get, but then why should they care? Maybe sometime we could talk about the fact that they were Linda Ronstadt's back-up band and part of the Flying Burrito Brothers, back-up and collaborators for and with many of the Reprise/WB artists, but that won't make a difference either. Wow, okay....but really maybe you should just PM me. Von Freeman is one of the last of the Chicago tenor sax men. He has had a long term south side residency at the New Apartment Lounge (and before that at the Enterprise Lounge) every tuesday for free. The first time I saw him was at the Enterprise and he played with John Young. Now he plays with three young white musicians who kick ass too. After about an hour and a half playing with his band they call up singers and after that other instrumentalists of various ages (he had some HS kids a few years back who were super bad-ass) sit in, so
