  1. Totally weird. They were booking rock and other non-caberet type acts for awhile, but certainly nothing you couldn't see anywhere else. Possible. Their website says no shows... Maybe it is being used as a banquet hall only. Don't know. LouieB
  2. Actually that is north, in Old Town, at the corner of Wells and North. LouieB
  3. Sure you have..maybe you just haven't been there....it is in the same building with Second City ETC and that stupid Wedding play that has been playing in Chicago forever. It is an overblown supper club type of place and the only time I have been there is to see Glenn and Nels. LouieB
  4. I have been mired in the educational bureaucracy three different ways... My job (16 years), my kids in school (lots and lots), and a stint on a Local School Council in Chicago, which is like a mini school board (13 years). I can't wait to get the hell out someday and never think about education again. LouieB
  5. Waylon Jennings name drops both Hank Williams and Bob Wills... LouieB
  6. That is so right and so wrong all at the same time... Although there are several Huey Lewis songs I actually enjoy hearing on the radio (or did) whereas I really never liked Hootie. LouieB
  7. Actually I DO have it on alot, and still I have not seen it. Just for the record, I also don't believe that this is selling out. LouieB
  8. I have still not seen one of these commercials....what's the deal? LouieB
  9. Ihave yet to see Supersize me. Making sense of the program is apparently quite a challange, with more regulations than many other programs, hence the need for lots of monitors, of which I will be one. I think my days of trying to make an actual change in things are diminishing. At least at the moment I have very little fight left, after what has been a fairly crazy couple years. I am sure I will get it back, but I just don't know. LouieB
  10. My appreciation for them was ruined by WXRT playing Golden once an hour. I am sure they are great, but I gave away the one MMJ album I bought and I never give away albums hardly ever. LouieB
  11. That seems to be the story.....it may show up on an album someday, who knows. LouieB
  12. Bridgeport has never been called "bad", instead it was the area to the south and east. As I was driving down the Ryan a week ago I witnessed the very last building at Stateway Gardens (Federal Street) being torn down. This massive public housing project, once total hellhole, is now gone, making way for new housing (not sure where the actual people went from Stateway, but that is another topic I suppose) and what will undoubtedly be a fairly upscale area. There is plenty of nightlife along the entire Michigan Ave corridor all the way to the loop and many restauarants. Sure it isn't Wrigle
  13. Actually I think education in general is a snake pit, but particularly at my particular state agency...long story..but in general the parts of NCLB that most people know about has turned education into something other than it should be. Actually Nutrition, the free and reduced lunch program is out of Dept of Agriculture and is one of the better funded programs. We at least recognize that kids need breakfast and lunch, but as mountain bed notes below, the rest of education is dramatically underfunded. Just horrible. I agree.....the food programs work fairly well, but the education of
  14. Yea....Jackson has a couple years on me...although at that age he was writing songs that were being performed by others...nice work Jackson. Anyway...Happy 40th Sargent Pepper.. LouieB
  15. Education...the biggest snake pit there is. I won't talk about what happened after I started this thread, but the next month promises to be a mofo.... I am going to the child nutrition program, monitoring free and reduced lunch programs. I currently fund programs for low income students in Advanced Placement. LouieB
  16. There is a "dad rock" joke in here somewhere.... Well I am bit too young to have seen the real musical innovations of the 20th century, but it hasn't been too bad all in all. Say hi to dad for me...!!! LouieB
  17. Thanks all..it promises to be a hellish month in my old position, before I get to my new position. LouieB
  18. Did anyone post this yet....I think the Police should play for free.... LouieB
  19. As someone old enough to have heard it at 17 it was a mindfuck.....1967 was a very good year to be alive. LouieB
  20. Yea...since we couldn't get to 50 pages on the last one... Actually this continues to be sort of a dead issue..... LouieB
  21. At the moment both Wrigley and the Cell are dreadful places to see baseball...both Chicago teams are in a deep funk as far as I can tell. Wrigley is the place to go for pre and post game night (or day) life, the Cell is greatly improved and does in fact have far better food and more knowledgeable baseball fans. LouieB
  22. I have yet to see or hear any of these commercials so as far as I am concerned the entire issue is bullshit (it is bullshit anyway....) LouieB
  23. I personally don't think the Beatles ever recovered from it either, the bar had been raised so high. (It seems to have done in Brian Wilson....) LouieB
