What pisses you off about them? They have great music...just close your eyes and imagine Wilco on your screen instead. LouieB

Some of these thoughts have surfaced on other threads..... I like these guys records, but caught them at Metro a few months back by themselves and their shows are very very slow. Opening for a fairly high energy band like Wilco could be a real problem (was the thought a few weeks back) and clearly it appears to be a problem for lots of fans. LouieB

THE jasmine?? Wow, a blast from the past.....the membership here is huge now. LouieB

I have been to many a Friendly's when I lived back east....(east of here too.) LouieB

This is what I want..... TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID 2.4L 4, auto CVT Tier 2 bin 3 / PZEV 40 38 46 I don't know...as an ad, yea it might be terrible, but it was somehow thrilling to hear Wilco on it. No matter what I can't stop really caring about the music. I do know how weird this all is, but somehow the music elevates these ads beyond the crass and mundane.....coupling Sky Blue Sky with the image of a happy driving couple...wow...strangely powerful....and please don't ask me to justify this, there simply is no way to do so, it is just a viceral reaction to hearing Jeff sing on top of some

Can someone tell me about these guys? The Deadstring Brothers are opening for them at the Beat Kitchen this Friday (TG bought me us tickets for Fathers Day) and I don't know anything about them. We are going to see the Deadstring Brothers, but if these guys are worth staying for we will. LouieB

At a certain point in their career the Velvets didn't even play NYC anymore. LouieB

I finally saw my first Wilco/VW ad yesterday....Sky Blue Sky..pretty cool. LouieB

I don't even drink coffee...not because I don't like is but because it makes me sick sometimes. (When does the ice cream arrive??) LouieB

I suppose it depends on what you are ordering. You can certainly get cheaper "coffee" other places, but if you want special stuff, then of course you are going to pay more. LouieB

Funny....no unlike Bangs, Prine is a survivor, both literally and figuratively. Thanks for the info on that. I think that his reviews would be a hoot. LouieB

The (sad) fact is that in the future all music will be dispensed this way along with your latte. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living in the past (the 60s) LouieB

Yea, I knew this was available, but I don't think this has many actual reviews from Creem and Rolling Stone. If it did I woudl get it. I just think it would be interesting to read his opinions about albums that may or may not have stood the test of time and see how correct he was in his initial impressions. LouieB

Yea, it was interesting enough.... Sometimes people who had relatively interesting lives aren't really that interesting when you try and write about it. I thought DeRogotis missed the boat on delving more deeply into his actual writing (Carborator Dung is an okay book, but a better one would collect his actual reviews) and got pretty involved in what a jerk he was. It is pretty obvious he was a jerk (and who needed to keep hearing about his bad hygene??), so once that was established the rest was actually sort of dull. (I found it interesting that Bangs hated John Prine....I wonder if h

Happy Birthay!! Have a great one. LouieB

I am sure the Velvets were not thrilled with having Nico (although Cale did produce Nico's first album so they couldn't have been on that bad terms) but her participation worked out for the best. And the bottom line will always be that their association with Andy Warhol was very important to them becoming as famous as they have become. Once again, you can't change history, but I suppose you can get involved in a the revisionist talk you like. (As things turned out John Cale didn't make it all that long in the Velvet Underground either....) LouieB

What the hell..I disagree....Nico's crazy German accent kind of gives this song a kick. LouieB

Yea, this book has been out for awhile. It is all sort of irreverent fun, in the Lester Bangs tradition (DeRogatis wrote his bio {hey Jen did you ever finish reading it??} which is why he figures this is funny.) I like this kind of stuff too, but all these albums are truly important in their own way. So this kind of off the wall criticism should be taken with a grain of salt (and maybe some hot sauce.) edit-I had not followed the link, but apparently Amazon readers are too fond of this book anyway. Frankly there is better stuff to read about music anyway, so why bother with this. LouieB

Day 9 in springfield and the rumor is that my current boss (the one who was so mean to me), may be finally getting the karma she has been putting out. I had to be vindictive, but that would be sweet. LouieB

You mean Deni who I ran out of here? I sure hope so... The argument back then was about Kate taking the el to the south side in the middle of the night (in the winter). JC4pres is a relatively young GUY and he might be okay if he watches himself. I must admit that more recently that part of the south side looks a lot less threating than it used to, although frankly I wouldn't do public trans down there myself. I just really don't care to start this argument again, so to each his own. You can get there from downtown, that's all I have to say.... LouieB

I don't have too many 07s actually, but I sure like Two Cow Garage III. LouieB
