Pitchfork may not like it, but he is getting the best press of his career from what I have read. LouieB

Well in one year my daughter, who have been taking to shows since she was 15, turns 21. It will lessen the tension upon entering even the best of venues (the Hideout, Schubas) a great deal. Most places with music serve alcohol, thus making the venue an adults only affair. So it goes. Alcohol and music go together and the sales of liquor is how clubs pay the musians. Of course many venues now discriminate against older patrons by not providing any seating, so the demographic for some live music is fairly narrow. (Interesting article on this issue in the Sunday Trib about the Richard Thompso

Low is a fairly low key group and frankly not a great opener. As expected they lost the crowd about halfway through their set, by taking too long between songs. They played a bunch of numbers I expected (though I dont' know their entire catalogue) and I figured they would do their usual low key shtick, which frankly comes across better on record than in person (this is my second time seeing them of late.) I know they are friends of Wilco's I suppose, but a bit more energetic group would have held the crowd who in fact were very respectful during most of the set, until the slow and lowkey so

The Wrens + Bob Mould + Heartless Bastards ...
LouieB replied to Wendy's topic in Someone Else's Song
When he played solo at OTS a couple years back it was him and his electric guitar. There is so much great stuff happening here this weekend (I missed the Deadstring Brothers last night and will miss Blue Mountain as well), but I am going to Boston to catch the North Hampton Wilco show. LouieB -
I wore mine for many years as well. LouieB

The time I took Rosie they didn't ask, but then again she was with me. It has not be uncommon in the past for HS kids to come in to play in the late jam session, but there is a doorman later in the evenings and while I have not seen him card anyone, this could be the first time. LouieB

Thanks to Kris for supplying the info on Von. Both Von and Fred are Chicago jazz icons. Von plays more mainstream/bebop type fare, whereas Fred is strictly free and avant in his approach. Then again Fred is nearly a decade younger than Von. I would go see either one of these guys whenever you can, because despite their age they are still very good players and will not be around long. Von seems pretty healthy, but a heavy dose of the jazz life (booze, cigarettes, musician hours, etc.) is bound to take its toll eventually. Fred has just returned from some sort of health crises which laste

Last Chance to See Edward Burch in Chicago? 6/11
LouieB replied to Dr. Steve Brule's topic in Someone Else's Song
Man, I have not listened to either of those albums in a long time. I remember liking Palace 4 AM though. LouieB -
Every time I have seen this I think the name of the car is EROS, which frankly would be a better name... (I have not seen the YAMF ad yet so that part I guess I can't comment on.) But you know something.....I admit it is sort of weird to hear Jeff singing to a couple in a EOS or Eros or Equis or whatever the fuck the name of the shitty VW is... I mean this is a guy I have run into on the streets in Chicago..... I want my damn ad already.... LouieB
