You really want to see them at Martyrs?? Plan on that in about 20 years. I don't see their popularity waning at all. Not as long as Jeff keeps showing up on the covers of music magazines and they can play in every corner of the world (Europe, Australia, the far east, etc.) This train isn't slowing down any time soon. By the way, Micah's home made album with his father is worth a listen too. And don't forget John Boston's "Whiskey Bender" DVD with all kinds of interviews and footage from a previous road trip. (Cheap plugola....) LouieB

Free is good.... I am sure Allstate put up a huge bond of some sort to cover damage for their rental. I did get a big kick out of the 2016 reference though....by then Millenium park will not be the attraction it is now anyway or at least the money being brought in by the Olympics will offset any damage to the grass or shrubs. Right...bad memory... Well this figures!! Actually there are all kinds of cool events that do take place at the Pritzker, so that is not to say Wilco or other more rock oriented stuff can't happen (the jazz series last year was very fun, what I saw), but generally if they feel the audience will be rowdy they won't book stuff there. I guess Decemberists fans don't really count as a rock audience, particularly if it is a Decemberists with strings event. What is the date on this? Usually the events at Pritzker (as at Grant Park) are free. LouieB

I forget where Radiohead did end up!! Where was it? LouieB

I am not a gotta get an album on the first day kind of guy, but I did get Two Cow Garage's third album and think it is pretty good. Still not sure why they bother with a keyboard player, since he is totally lost in the power trio mix. Two Cow is touring behind this and will be at the Hideout in a few weeks. Always a fun and very loud band. LouieB

That's life!! However dying in a car crash is extra sad. LouieB

Never gonna happen. They don't even let the jazz fest in there (and certianly not the rough and rowdy bluesfest); they sure could pack it out for Wilco though and it would be fun. LouieB

I gather this guy is from Suburban Home records, the label I just bought 4 Smoking Popes related albums for $10. I guess things ARE really bad. LouieB

Yea well this is the internet and it is hard to tell what is going on isn't it. And it is well known that I am an old fart, but I was 12 years younger when Guyville came out (what was the exact date???) and maybe even less hip then. Chicago is hardly the center of the universe and Wicker Park is not now, nor was it then the center of even the Chicago musical universe, but at that time it was being characterized as that by the national media. (Guyville IS a direct reference to Wicker Park by the way, not something I made up.) Without this attention, to that scene and to Liz in particular, E

I am ready for some BBQ and the Jazz Museum.. LouieB

I own three Liz Phair albums so I know what she sounds like (and XRT used to play Polyester Bride constantly). I was refering to the massive amount of hype that accompanied the pre-release of Guyville. Guyville and Whip Smart are both pleasant enough, but hardly earthshaking or ground breaking. Oh yea, I suppose it takes an unusual talent to sing about fucking and running and oral sex, but Liz's voice is nothing special and her songs in retrospect aren't that special either. In the year prior to the release of Guyville, this was the most anticipated album of any Chicago artist in recent me

Someone needs to ask Andrew if he ever even listened to Radiohead. I don't know when he had time.....the guy is fluent in so many types of music that I doubt Radiohead is even part of his influences. LouieB

Will Johnson @ Empty Bottle, Chicago Sunday 4/22
LouieB replied to cryptique's topic in Someone Else's Song
I did not make it to the show last night, but I did tape Will (who is a super nice guy), singing four songs yesterday. Look for this on GloNo on Friday or so. He sounded great. It just might be that both Centro-matic and South San Gabriel will be releasing back to back CDs this summer and perhaps playing dual shows to promote them. Chicago might be a place they do that, but only time will tell. LouieB -
Wow, I just got ripped for suggesting Liz Phair wasn't so great. Someone who doesn't like the Smiths....?? What do they get around here? Personally I would vote for them.... LouieB I would hope so.... (How long until Liz Phair gets in???) LouieB The STooges should cerainly get in, but rock and roll started well before both Sabbath and the Stooges who are about 4th or 5th generation artists actually. The Beatles are a second generation artist at least. LouieB

Feel free....not exactly sure why expressing a strong opinion about someone means I know it all....I bet there are many here who feel the same way. There are few recording artists that have come with so much hype and delivered so little. This was an argument here several years ago and her reputation is no better now, in fact it is even less. At least she is no longer associated witih the Chicago music scene...someone else can claim her. LouieB

Will Johnson @ Empty Bottle, Chicago Sunday 4/22

As was done with Chamber Strings, there will be some footage of him performing alone which I will be able to assist on. Should be fun. We won't be filming at the Bottle since they treated us like crap when we tried to film the Blacks. LouieB -
For sure. Another musican with Chicago ties (he was born here and played with several Chicago musicans including Von Freeman if my memory serves me.) He had been sick for some time, but during a week of ultra bad news, this didn't help. Luckily we have the Mr. Hill's fine Blue Note albums reissues in recent years so at least we have his work to listen to for the forseeable future. LouieB

Number nine...number nine...number nine... I think someone should point out (since I stupidly didn't realize) that the CD and other merch will of course be for sale at midnight. I was concerned that the LP/CD combo wasn't going to be available, but apparently it is!!!??!??! LouieB

How was he?? Any reports? LouieB
