That's how the federal government looks at it too..... You are either Hispanic or not and then you are white, black, Asian, native American, etc. LouieB

Strangely we haven't had this discussion about the Replacements. (Or about any other band with less than the original line-up.) LouieB

Linda Rondstadt has Parkinson's, can no longer sing
LouieB replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
It does, but everyone does get old unless they are unlucky enough to not get old. I have a close friend who has Parkinson's and it is a very devastating condition. Strangely I was just discussing Linda with someone recently and we were trying to figure out why she had dropped out of the scene. WE figured maybe she had just done it all and made enough money that she didn't need to make records anymore. Very sad. I have all her early albums and most of the mid-career ones too. She has virtually no hip cred anymore, but back in the day we all dug her. LouieB -
Not a label, but a publishing house. And obviously people. LouieB Bob Dylan did a beautiful tribute to Blind Willie McTell called, strangely enough, Blind Willie McTell. And also Song to Woody. And a song for George Jackson, the political figure, not the musician. LouieB

Well if we are talking about jazz there are lots and lots. Goodbye Pork Pie Hat by Charles Mingus..... LouieB

Old timer....... Low just did a tribute to Clarence White called, strangely enough, Clarence White. LouieB

Do musicians' appearances matter more than their sound?
LouieB replied to i'm only sleeping's topic in Someone Else's Song
Some of you may not remember the well attended "rock star boyfriend" and the equally popular follow-up :"rock star girlfriend" threads here. Of course musicians don't have to be hot and many of the most talented musicians on the planet are plain as can be, but it sure isn't a bad career move to be a bit on the attractive side in order to get people to pay attention to you. In the days when people were merely playing music to dance to (and most wore suits and ties in that case) it really didn't matter what the heck you looked like, but if you were fronting a band or being the singer for the- 65 replies

I gave this a bit of a listen. Sounds good to me. Would rather listen to it on a stereo also. LouieB

Didn't say that. I don't know what people who like guns like, because I am not really one of those people. I didn't bring up this issue again; ask Hixter what his point is. Murals are art just like anything else, take it or leave it. King in a hoodie is kind of goofy though, but that is just my opinion. LouieB

Those of us who don't particularly like guns, don't like anyone getting shot, no matter if the gun is legal or illegal, etc. Now the convo here has just plain turned weird. Very weird. LouieB

LouieB replied to i'm only sleeping's topic in Someone Else's Song
Even with the Dead many people really dug watching Bob Weir, who was the good looking member of the group. Of course appearance matters. Musicians are entertainers after all. This may be sad, but true. LouieB- 65 replies

Okay Hix.....today we don't have to put words in your mouth; you are sounding just plain crazy!! No one condones a crime like this. This case is nothing like the Trayvon Martin one. Come on. LouieB

One of my first shows I did a bunch of Dan Penn and some Spooner Oldham too. One of the Kent collections is nothing but their material done by themselves and lots of the Fame crew. Great stuff. I did end the show with I'm Your Puppet as an outro. I feel very honored to be on the air at NUR. It is a great station and my technical skills still leave something to be desired, but I only forgot to turn on the mic once yesterday so that was pretty good. Working to get on CHIRP too, but that's a whole different bag. LouieB

No and no. I had a set list, but punted so many times I am not sure exactly what I played. Mostly it was unreleased material from Fame Studio, some 50s and 60s gospel and then a whole bunch of 40s and 50s Savoy R&B. Will give more notice next time. Played way too many LPs. LouieB

Thanks. I always say break a leg too; seems kind of weird for radio and I don't know that DJs know what you are talking about. LouieB

You can get it at WNUR.org. It is certainly streamed but not saved. Thanks. Not sure why I neglected to put in the web address. LouieB

I have not done any shameless self promotion for my radio gigs on here to this point, but your luck ran out. I am an occasional host on the R&B Flashback show on WNUR (Northwestern University) and this Sunday August 18, 2013 is another one of my shows. It is at 5-7 Central Time on WNUR.org or 89.3 FM if you live on the northside of Chicago. I am by no means an expert on this type of music, but I play what I like, so this week is some obscure material from the Fame Studio, Savoy R&B (Roots of Rock and Roll), a bit of gospel and maybe a touch of Numero Group. Listen in for some i

Actually if you change is to was you are correct. It just isn't anymore. Who knows what their "plan" is since they don't seem to have one. And it certainly is the one the health insurance industry can live with. LouieB

Rand Paul came across as a rational, intelligent guy on Daily Show the other night. I have no doubt that he is intelligent. But if there is something that can replace ACA that will actually be better, let's have at it. The only thing happening right now is voting out the ACA with nothing to replace it. That's stupid. Since I am personally for single payer, etc. I am pretty sure that isn't what is even being proposed by the GOP, but since they haven't put any plan out there, it seems reasonable to think they don't actually have any plan, nor are they willing to compromise (since they didn'

It ain't gonna happen, but it is going to be a very entertaining year or so when the real nominating season starts in about two years. LouieB

Hope to make this. It's free, the sound will be great and considering the type of material being played there should be lots and lots of open seats. LouieB
