  1. Well let's not get too over excited about LouieCK being all that profound. He is funny as hell, but I don't know that he rises to the level of a George Carlin or Richard Pryor both of whom did have a lot to say about America. With the proliferation of stand up these last couple decades there are lots of folks trying to be funny (and telling basically the same stories) and not being all that funny. No matter how you feel about LouieCK, he is pretty funny. (although not to women usually) LouieB
  2. Sorry you are right...WEA all the same corporation right? Got momentarily confused but essentially it is the same company. LouieB
  3. Because original pressings go for more money on the collectable market than reissues. If you don't collect records you may not know this, which I understand. I have looked for original MA LPs on Reprise and they can go for over $100. The reissues even at $40 will depreciate when opened and may or may not appreciate with time. Hard to tell. LouieB
  4. The difference is that used copies of MA have collectable value, which the new ones will not, but I will probably lose my mind as well when push comes to shove, because at least I would like the outtakes if they are on vinyl although I am pretty sure the entire CD package with the outtakes is now way less then 40 on the used market so maybe not. 5. Very sad. Hearing the first album was a revelation back in the 60s. Sad to see him go. LouieB
  6. We have heard that the world is coming to an end so often regarding Obamacare and gay marriage, yet there is no such thing as climate change that can be connected to carbon dioxide produced by humans. LouieB
  7. So exactly what constitutes interference and at what point does the team interfered with get an automatic run? Any experts here? Not taking sides on this one, but I am not sure I understand the rule or even know what it is. LouieB
  8. 40 bucks a piece? The record companies have lost their minds, or they figure we will pay anything, LouieB
  9. Bumping this again. I am back on WNUR.org this Sunday from 5:30 PM until 7 PM playing soul and R&B and trying not to screw up. This week I am featuring material from Numero Group's Prix Eccentric Soul Comp and United Records along with some odds and ends you may or may not know. A special section on white R&B from folks you would not expect. Will I play something from Mavis Staples? Depends on the time. And listen in for some off color or strange songs as well, plus a few instrumentals. Thanks for listening in advance. LouieB
  10. The longer this goes on, the funnier it gets. Of course even under the best of conditions there are going to be roll-out problems, but now that some good reports are coming back on folks actually connecting and getting some good results, particularly in states where they don't rely on the federal site alone, the anti-ACA folks are getting more vociferous in their lying. There were glitches when Medicaid started and there were glitches when Medicare part D rolled out. The pressure is still on to get things to work correctly that should always be the goal, who wants a program not to work, unless
  11. s Sarah Silverman is an acquired taste and she is also sometimes very good and sometimes not. Louie CK is highly conceptual and totally offensive to many people and not to some people's taste, but clearly brilliant. Hey even 45 years after his death Lenny Bruce is still highly offensive to some people. Cringing is okay in some cases, but cringing and NOT getting a laugh is a problem. I have seen some of Cho's stand-up and it might be funnier in person than on HBO. Some people were simply funny all the time, but those are the true geniuses such as George Carlin and Richard Pryor. Everyone els
  12. I didn't read the article, but making sensible end of life decisions is hardly the crazy-ass death panel panicathon the right wing propagates. People sign DNR orders all the time along with other sensible directives. Lots of folks have died for lack of health insurance or being denied coverage that could otherwise have saved them. Again this death panel bullshit is just that - Bullshit of the highest order. LouieB
  13. We already do. What do you think Medicare and Medicaid is but tax $ keeping people alive. (As is the VA, etc.) If anything ACA is not really government money for health care, it is government money to help people get health care. LouieB
  14. Yes yes, of course. I totally give up. You are right. Point taken. Seriously that is important. He is a seminal figure. He deserves it just as much as (or more) Chic does. LouieB
  15. Finding any kind of Sun Ra is always cool. LouieB
  16. I think that is my major exposure to her act and that show wasn't funny either. I guess everyone has to play on their own ethnic stereotypes to be a comedian, but I found some of it fell very flat. LouieB
  17. Power chords, I get it. This is certainly true. LouieB
  18. Sorry I missed that. Filthy is fine (LouieCK is also filthy and funny), but I have just never found her act funny on TV. It could be better in person. LouieB
  19. I wish I thought Margaret Cho was funny. LouieB
  20. Well I never said he didn't do anything. I pretty much said he did one thing, which I guess is enough to get him in. But then again there as so many inductees (as I pointed out also) who aren't even rock musicians (many of whom had nothing to do with rock because it didn't exist when they were active), that at least he was a rock and roller. But if they are going to induct Miles Davis, I suppose John Coltrane, Sun Ra, Thelonius Monk and a whole bunch of jazz musicians who influenced rock musicians should also be inducted. LouieB
  21. I'm surprised to hear me say it too..., But look at the list of inductees. Most of the greats have been honored. I guess it is his turn. LouieB
  22. The Meters, sure, why not. But Link Wray? Okay so he had one hit, Rumble, and had a broken amp that he played it through. Maybe things are getting a bit thin for whom to honor, I dunno. Meanwhile the museum is pretty cool, but when I visited well over 10 years ago there was no real Hall of Fame, not like there is a country music hall of fame (or baseball) with plaques and shit. I thought that part was pretty lame. Maybe it is better now. LouieB
  23. Sure the sign-up has been a bit of a problem, but let's look at it realistically. We ALL KNOW that the web doesn't function all that well sometimes and that start up apps can have problems as do ongoing apps, we also know that lots of folks just logged on out of curiosity, rather than to actually try and get healthcare. None of this is fatal. Those just curious (like HIxter who went on the site despite not needing to) will stop after awhile. Flaws in the system including server capacity will be straightened out. And eventually just like with every program, people will get served, despite
  24. Hey KevinG, thanks for taking up the slack for me. I can't handle this anymore. I never thought, nor can some people believe, how downright conservative Wilco fans can be. My favorite line of late is "I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal." So it is okay to think gays can get married, but heaven forbid you should actually vote for someone who might take that position publically, along with other actual socially liberal issues that all those conservative representatives you are supporting are actually against. Most people are fiscally conservative. I can't think of a single pe
