So there seems to be some agreement that Big Star has two decent albums. LouieB -

Interesting. LouieB -
ITs the kind of tour you could actually follow on which you could follow the band around. Except WHO is the band these days? LouieB

You know it is funny. I don't disagree with this. Sometimes the little bands that become cult favorites and then find a degree of main stream success, aren't as good as they appear in retrospect. This was interesting considering the comment under the Lou Reed thread wondering why Lou Reed's death was such a big deal since he and the Velvet Underground weren't big names. In point of fact VU and Lou Reed were big names, both at the time they were new and in the decades after. It was Alex Chilton who had major success with the Box Tops (remember them? I do!!) and then fell into cult status with B -
Or as Paul McCartney says anything with a face. (I can't figure out how clams and oysters figure into this, but whatever.) LouieB

Huh what? I went veggie. LouieB

Before I stopped eating meat I loved anchovies on anything. LouieB

Look at the attention that Alex Chilton got a few years ago and he was WAY more obscure than Lou Reed who had hit singles, tons of albums, and lead one of the most important groups of the 60s and 70s. He was hardly underground and not at all obscure, particularly compared to Alex Chilton. LouieB

Just like with the Baseball Hall it is subject to subjectivity. So Kiss is more popular with more people than the Mats. So it goes. Cat Stevens is meh in my book and Linda Ronstadt is meh in lots of peoples books (not mine personally). Ron Santo had to die before he got in the BB Hall, so go figure. (Of course I didn't care about him either, but lots of people did.) LouieB

What that statement? ITs been around for a long time. LouieB

No one should be surprised that Cat Stevens is getting in. He is (was) totally old school classic (folk) rock. Lots of folks still cover his songs. LouieB

That totally sucks. LouieB

Where you at the High Dive show? We taped them there 5 years ago. Hopefully that DVD will eventually come out. Intesting venue. Who are you? Someone I know I assume? If not sorry we didn't meet. Great show at the Hideout, a place I have seen hundred(s) of shows, but this was the first time ever that the BRox played there. Luckily Tim was there and got to do one of his famous intros. Had a long talk with Mark the drummer and the Bloodshot folks. This reissue was Bloodshot's largest pre-order sale ever. I also enjoyed Otis Gibbs, who I have seen when he opened for them before. Black Ensemble Theater: Curtis Mayfield Story

These shows always look good, but the tickets tend to be expensive. I have wanted to see several of them and never have. Stupid me. LouieB -
Actors in the least amount of crappy movies

Yea, so make that three stinkers in a row, I think. But she has made a nice recovery from that. LouieB -
Sure, he is that guy who influenced Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Jeff Tweedy among others. But what he actually wrote and felt really isn't important because all he was, was a musician so he was basically an entertainer, not really any different than a minstrel show. LouieB

You just can't live in Texas unless you got a lotta soul
LouieB replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Always have had fun in Texas, but it is true, you can get great tacos in Chicago. Actually you can get more authentic Mexican food in Chicago than in parts of Texas, which is more Tex/Mex. LouieB -
Bumping this again. I am back abusing the airwaves on WNUR 89.3 on the northside in Chicago or WNUR.org anywhere in the world on Sunday December 15 at 5:30 Central time. More crazy R&B including material from Aladdin Records, Delmark' series on Honkers and Bar Walkers, a song featured in the book "The Warmth of Other Suns", a selection of LP cuts and scratchy 45s, and maybe a soul Christmas song or two. Should be fun. I got some flack for some stuff I played last time, but will probably not do anything outrageous if I can help it. But I might not be able to help it. LouieB

Can't argue with this unless you throw Otis Redding and Sam Cooke into the mix. LouieB -
With a bit of luck and maybe a bit of pushing, my daughter is in line to get on the ACA. This is going to be a great program for large numbers of people in the long run. Anyone who thought it would be flawless from day one (even without the shoddy work on the website) is just dreaming. No government program runs smoothly from day one and some never run smoothly, but the ones that are needed are needed and those that aren't needed could be eliminated. Clearly a program that is going to help millions of people actually stay alive and healthy should be supported. LouieB

Despite what Hixter says, it is going to be the TEA partiers that will shut this down if it is shut down, not the Dems. LouieB

Cute. Nothing particularly wrong with ELO. I was mostly kidding about it. LouieB -

Actually I would be more pleased for my kid to like Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer then ELO, but that is just me. LouieB
