  1. There are days I just don't know what to believe about what you say. In an earlier post you said your neighbors are like your family and that you give out your alarm code, etc. Now you don't even seem to know your neighborhood? Hey whatever!!!! LouieB
  2. Well naturally if Zimmerman was getting his head bashed in I suppose he had every right to shoot Martin, but that STILL does not answer the question of why he disregarded the police dispatcher and got close enough to get his head bashed in. Had he stayed away Trayvon would be alive and he would never have been put on trial. I truly believe he felt empowered to do something totally stupid because he was packing. LuoieB
  3. I am sure Hixter would approve. LouieB
  4. I was not surprised. After listening to all the talk about guns for the last year, I now know that anyone who is threatened and has a gun is entitled to shoot whomever is threatening him. Had Zimmerman NOT had a gun he would probably have done exactly as he was told by the police and not gotten near Trayvon, but once he got close enough to confront or be confronted by him and then gotten into a scuffle, he had every right to shoot him. Thank goodness for the second amendment. Guns rule. (Oh yea, highly skilled defense lawyers also rule in cases where most of the evidence is unclear.) L
  5. This was interesting. Shit happens and this guy had it happen to him. LouieB
  6. That would be Beltman I would assume, since it was not me. Lou
  7. If you are like me and only Facebook on your iPhone, you have to get really proficient at the one finger typing to get out any lengthy discussion. I am sometimes amazed at how much I do write like this, but it is tough. LouieB
  8. Actually it is kind of cruel, which satire often is. I know some females who are in "mom rock" groups too. I know a few "dad jazz" bands too. Everyone is going to get old and everyone is going to want to re-live some of that glory. And strangely young people like appearing bald so go figure. I once saw a band in Marquette Michigan that play together once every year or so. They banged out some Doors and such and had a great time. On one level it is kind of sad, on another, it was just fine. Were they old? Yup, old as the hills, Was the repertoire old? Naturally. But ultimately eve
  9. If that is the definition I would say most folks here are pretty hung up on that stuff, even the younger people. Big Star is the biggest dad rock group that ever existed and people can't get over them. (Along with Beatles, Dylan, the Kinks and Beach Boys....go figure.) See my "dad rock" comments in this thread above. If sludgy sound, unfocused lyrics, and non-structured melody are considered non-dad rock, I would say Wilco is doing a pretty good job much of the time staying in that school, I really don't know what people want out of Wilco anymore. If there were ever a non-dad rock albu
  10. Sadly this is not going to happen. She knows I posted up about this and really doesn't care. She has moved on. The rest of us.... LouieB
  11. I think a couple things. The music business in general is not that interesting anymore. It's not to say that good music isn't being made (this is not an old guy rant), there is some good stuff out there, but if anyone names a newer band,(and this happens with some regularity) hardly anyone else has heard of it. I am training as a DJ (talk about old guy syndrome here...just wait) at CHIRP and they feature new music nearly exclusively on their play list (as it should be) but I can't hardly identify even one band and they all sound depressingly alike. In fact after doing a couple shadowing gi
  12. No way. Now that I am field based and not office based I don't have that much time anymore, besides not much interesting is going on here most of the time. LouieB
  13. Last night on her radio show (Devils Radio WDBX.org 10-12 central time Thursday - cheap plug) Rosie played portions of the Summerfest show we attended. Listening to it was like listening to an entirely different band. In the ten years since, Wilco has changed from a jangly, strummy, audience participation band to a tight, roaring, professional one. The change is quite remarkable, now with a world class guitar player and two incredible keyboard players as well as a more assured and consistent vocalist. Just amazing. LouieB
  14. Whenever I ventured into the RSBF thread I inevitably got told off by TeeG. Good times. LouieB
  15. I wish I could remember. Mostly I remember the crush of the crowd For sure. Those were great shows, but totally exhausting. Not only did we meet the band that first night, but also Susan Miler. It was a magical night to be sure. I had seen Wilco several times before that, but meeting the band was pretty special for me too. LouieB
  16. The ironic thing about this thread is that yesterday was also the 10 year anniversary of Rosie's first Wilco show (Milwaukee Summerfest) when we met the band. She reminded me of that. I certainly don't keep track of such things. LouieB
  17. There was also the time the board crashed and we all lost our posts and started over from scratch. Good times. LouieB
  18. Not quite all grown up. She is not yet gainfully employed. When that happens we can all feel really old (and maybe I can retire.) LoueiB
  19. I got her into Wilco, but she got me into VC. It was kind of a funny story really. LouieB
  20. Not being Rosie's friend on Facebook I didn't know she posted up about that. Another end of an era to be sure. LouieB
  21. The old timers were maniacs to be sure. Back in the old days we had VC meet ups of different sorts. It was a heady time. Venues were smaller and people were closer. The number of people I met through this board was astounding, folks from all over the world actually. LouieB
  22. Nice work. Glad to be some inspiration this AM, since I am not inspired myself. LouieB
  23. This won't mean much to folks who got here in the last five years or so, but as of this post I have finally posted more times then my daughter Rosie, the former Tweedy's Gurl. This is fairly remarkable in that she has not been on this site for nearly eight years. Rosie got me on here back when she was a mere high school student. Apparently she spent her teen years furiously posting on here so that she was able to amass over 15,000 posts in just a few years before dropping off this site when she went to college and figured she could waste her time doing something else. I have posted up a wh
  24. Morrissey is President and they are already sick of him. Seriously it isn't that complicated. They guy is turning into a tyrant, even though they elected him and the army is about to take him out and maybe set up new elections. LouieB
