True, but at least it rocks like crazy and hasn't made all us XRT (half) listeners sick by being played to death. LouieB
-
Well yea, for a few different non-musical reasons. LouieB

Actually "Oklahoma" is the state song for Oklahoma. Maybe the Flaming Lips song is the other official song. Had XRT not played the living shit out of What Light I would say I would sign off on it for the other state song, but I would prefer ViaChicago. LouieB

Actually there are only two scandals. Bengazhi is simply a question of who knew what when and that question has been largely answered The AP is pretty chilling. The IRS, pretty stupid. Strangely the IRS is being run by a Bush appointee. Go figure. edit - A day later and while the IRS thing is irritating and the AP thing is stupid, none of this stuff (including BengazhizI) is up to the level of the full blown disaster of 9/11 on Bush's watch and the full blown lying by the Bush administration that got us into Iraq. Corruption and stupidity is a human trait that is not limited to the gov

I would guess that M. Ward is making so much dough on this act that he is more than happy to let his solo career go for the moment. I haven't looked but I bet She and Him sells WAY more records than M. Ward alone. LouieB

This one really snuck up on everyone. Who knew that what seemed like a one off is now a regular thing. LouieB

Nice work. The bottom has fallen out of the CD market so there should be copies of just about every CD release out there for fairly cheap. edit. Even on Amazon they are less then $40. LouieB

Kind of cool. As with all things like this, I am guessing the sounds were made and added to the visuals, but it is still cool. LouieB

Maybe I will ask Jim if I ever see him. It all seems strange. I don't know how happy those guys were playing with Iron and Wine anyway,, but it paid the bills. LouieB
-
Is he still? I wasn't sure. LouieB
-
I am sure this is true, just as Wilco is Jeff Tweedy and whomever he asks to play with him. I know Jim and just didn't know he wasn't working with him at that time. LouieB

No Jim Becker? But they are calling this Califone? LouieB

The Daily Show did a brilliant job last week on how the political right doesn't really care about any of the other parts of the Bill of Rights; only the Second Amendment is sacred. Someone can find the clip, I don't have time. I don't know why you are still surprised by any of this. The dysfunction is so deep we don't see a resolution to it for many years or until the Republicans get control of the White House again, which could take a few years if Rand Paul and Ted Cruz decide they want to be President. Or maybe Chris Christie will be elected and then something will happen. I don't know.

Nope, just another somewhat boring day. Hot as hell actually. LouisB

Did anyone say that The Cure are the poor man's The Smiths? If not I just did. LouieB

I am sure he is a cool dude. We need all the old style country singers we can get at this point. LouieB
-
Well okay. So someone can make good country music. (I admit I didn't actually listen to it, but I will take your word for it.) That was hardly my point. The difference between how this guy came up and the way George Jones did is very different. That was what I meant. The world is a different place now. LouieB
-
No one. The culture that produced artists like George Jones is gone forever. LouieB

Sad really. I am amazed he lived this long. One of the last of the great country singers for sure. Sorry for a shameless plug here, but Rosie (formerly Tweedys Gurl of VC) and I are going to be playing country music including George Jones and Tammy Wynette next Thursday at 10 central on her show on WDBX.org on the internet. Please tune us in for two hours of country music before it was taken over by the pod people (as I heard Emmylou say in concert recently.) Should be fun. LouieB

Its always kind of interesting to see who has meaning to someone when they pass, particularly musicians, which is our main interest here. In many respects Richie Havens was a minor, if iconic figure because of his participation in Woodstock. He certainly belonged to that time period despite having a reasonable career, which also included what must have been a nice living doing ads. No one has yet mentioned his brief acting career, which included a memorable and moving scene in "I'm Not There". OH yea and his Dylan cover version that he owned was "Just Like a Woman." No one did it bett

Great thread. 1. Most of us here have seen in Wilco in much more intimate venues than ballparks (some of seen that too including me), so we aren't running to see Wilco play 45 minutes or an hour somewhere where they are 4 inches tall again. But if Jeff still reads this shit, congratulations on getting this gig and opening for Dylan. It is still an honor and some major cash I hope for your sake. 2. Why would Dylan not be a bit of a freak at this point. There are any number of people who could do him in or at least think they need to get next to him for whatever reason. He has every reason

You are right, we don't have the right to shoot each other (and often ourselves) we just do it anyway. And I am sure it has nothing to do with the number of guns we have, we just like to do it. LouieB
-
Australia isn't the US of A. They don't have the 2nd amendment so their government can take their guns and run rough shod over their rights to kill the shit out of each other. LouieB
-
I never saw him either. We used to play the heck out of Mixed Bag though back when I was in college and after. He wasn't that old either, but old enough I guess. Sad. LouieB

I saw it too...slightly unintentional. LouieB
