Well me too actually. I mean I could dig around a bit on this issue, but after all the crap thrown at us about is in the Presidental thread, I read up on the history of the Fed just enough to be totally dangerous. It was created in the early 20th century, which means it has 100+ years as an institution of government, meaning it is pretty entrenched. I would assume it would take an act of Congress to desmantle it. As always, there is only so much the President can do about this stuff. LouieB Seems right. The President can't close down parts of the government that are created by laws; tra

After getting beat over the head by Sparky for months about the Fed, the Fed, the Fed, I figure it is time for a real discussion. I don't believe the President of the United States can unilaterally close down the Federal Reserve Bank system. Maybe someone more up on this than me can illluminate this issue and how we coudl actually get along without a central banking structure at this point in advanced capitalism. Ideas or actual facts? Good idea. It appears that every label is now a reissue label with even the major labels getting in the act with the Beatles Box sets and the reissue of the Byrds mono LPs. Pretty soon everything ever recorded will be back in print, just in time for the music industry to completely collapse because no one is going to want to buy any more old material again and again. I just started watching Homeland on Netfix for the first time last night because I don't have cable. It is fun enough. I have watched Boardwalk. Nearly all current series on cable have lots of frontal nudity, particulary these two. Has anyone watched the Israeli series that Homeland is based on? Louie C.K. is brilliant but not for the lfaint of heart or those who don't like gross out humor. LouieB

Yea, give it a couple weeks and no one will speak of it again. No one can get out of the US of A once they are in. Just can't happen. LouieB -

I love the fact that the southern states get more back from the feds than they pay in federal taxes. Strange isn't it that the red states want out and want less government when they are the recipients of more than the states in the west, northeast or midwest. Let them go and all our taxes will go down. LouieB -

That;s true, but what's funny about this is that the places the losers are planning to move have all the stuff they supposedly hate, making the reason for moving somewhat silly. LouieB -
I gave a listen to the one Terry Callier CD I have and my impression wasn't changed. It was pretty good, somewhat clever, well produced folk jazz. He seemed a slightly less edgy than Oscar Brown Jr., another Chicago folk jazz figure of a slightly earlier generation. Pleasant enough, but ultimately not that memorable. LouieB

You gotta love Romney's lament that Obama bought voters by giving them stuff. Isn't that what politicians ALWAYS do? They make campaign promises and then try and do what they say, which is giving their constituencies what they want. Romney was planning to give all kinds of STUFF to his constituency, so how is he any different? What a douche. LouieB -

Oh my gosh I am so embarrased..... I just find it funny that so many righties are talking about going to Canada or Austrailia, both places with socialized medicine and in Canada's case gay marrage. Most places are more progressive than the USA that they want to go to. LouieB -

Maybe Sparky is signing up for this. I love the fact that the Civil War is still being fought 150 years later. It is so reassuring. LouieB -

If the Republican party supports amnesty it will alienate a large segment of its current supporters. These guys in a bad place at the moment. LouieB -

Yea, I didn't get it. These are two "stars" protecting their brands more than they are doing much else. Sorry to be so cynical, but I am not sure why Kid Rock did this. I understand Sean Penn"s motivation, just not Kid Rock's.. LouieB -

A story ran on the Stephanie Miller show this morning that the credit cards for staff members of the Romney campaign were made inactive immediately after his concession speech, so that the staff had to pay for their own cab rides home. So THAT's what it is like to get fired by a Mitt Romney..... LouieB -

Maybe next election the candidates will discuss dumping the Fed. (Incidently how would that actually happen? Sparky never did tell us.) LouieB -

So where is Sparky telling us we are all losers? Maybe in the other thread? I guess I should look there. To the rest of us, glad that shit is over. Now the shit starts all over again. LouieB -

Despite all the rancor both here in this thread and during the long and grueling campaign, you have to feel a bit badly for Romney when he loses (and he is going to lose) since both he and his father ran for president and lost and he is now a two time loser and really will have no other chance. Time will have marched on and younger and more qualified candidates will be on tap for four years from now. I guess Mitt will just have to be content with his wealth. LouieB -

I still don't know that he is a psychopath, unless deciding that you will say anything, even if it is not true, to achieve your goals. You make the call. LouieB -

Well I don't know about psychopathy, but his statement about cleaning up from Sandy being like cleaning up after a football game borders on just plain crazy. LouieB -
I dunno...I usually agree with gtrplyr on most stuff, but I just don't have that the same enthusiasm for him. When I found his album "Time Peace" at the resale (we are talking junk shop here, not used record store for $2.45) I was not really taken by it. I was actually thinking of putting it back into the resale stream, but I rarely get rid of any record, so it is still on my shelf particularly when I learned that he had so much cachet. It has some Chicago music scene luminaries on it such as John Moulder on guitar and Howard Levy on harmonica and Dave Onderdonk on guitar, as well as Pharoh
