  1. I'll probably get a good smackdown for this one, but...Tweedy and the Grateful Dead, or whatever's left of them.
  2. I started with High Low and in Between and found it a bit too "gospel-y" at first, but now I love it. Fat Possum recently released a bunch of his albums, so they should be pretty easy to find now, if they weren't before.
  3. Stereogum had something about this the other day. Don't know if they had the MP3 or not -- the site doesn't load great for me or I'd check.
  4. I've never seen either one, but I'd go with Ryan Adams (I can't. It's sold out here.) because the sound of Conor Oberst's voice makes me want to ram knitting needles in my ears. I'm trying, though, to find at least one Bright Eyes song I like.
  5. I haven't had one in a while, knock on wood, but my triggers tend to be anything highly perfumed. And alcohol, which isn't a problem, really, given I'm not much of a drinker in the first place. Yeah, the first time that happened, I was convinced I was having a stroke. I get this odd, "Alice in Wonderland" kind of feeling where I'm too big, or everything around me is too small. And I start talking -- a lot. (I sometimes don't remember this.) If I knew the headache wasn't coming, I'd almost enjoy the trippy-ness of it.
  6. I have the song from the Paste sampler on repeat, and listened to a few more on Last FM. Does anyone else hear a bit of a Modern Lovers influence?
  7. I haven't listened to Easy Tiger much. It's sounding a bit "adult-contempo" so far. I don't hate Ryan Adams, actually I like a lot of his stuff, but it tends to be on a song-by-song basis. Other than Heartbreaker and most of Gold, his records are too inconsistent. What I like, I really like, though.
  8. I don't mind the hooks are grooves (I like them, actually), but the songwriting is decidedly weaker than I'd expect. Still, I don''t think Under the Blacklight is anything as terrible as some of the reviews make it out to be. (I don't read Pitchfork, so no love loss there.)
  9. This is what my Last FM charts are telling me: 1. Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous 2. Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood 3. Joanna Newsom - The Milk-Eyed Mender 4. Big Star - Third/Sister Lovers 5. X-Ray Spex - Germfree Adolescents I wish I could be one of the cool kids and get the playlist in my sig, line like this:
  10. Blogger, right? What browser are you using? I've had Firefox "eat code" before.
  11. So totally unreal, guys. My thoughts out to you in the Twin Cities.

  13. I second (or third or whatever) the Andrew Bird album. Patti Smith's new one was okay, but some of her choices are suspect, the say the least. (Tears for Fears? Er, all right.) Rachel Sweet's Fool Around has just gotten a long overdue re-issue. John Doe has a new one out, but I've yet to hear it. I was kind of digging the new Apples in Stereo for a while; needs a few more spins, though.
  14. Willie Nelson - Red-Headed Stranger. I'm splitting hairs, but Richard and Linda Thompson's Shoot Out the Lights could be taken as a concept album.
  15. That Daniel Johnston can perform at all is pretty amazing.
  16. Hello Everyone, it's time for poetry I submit to you the following it's entitled: "I Eat with Gusto, Damn! You Bet" By one Jonathan Richman. When I eat like I do it, I use not fork nor spoon No grace or culture to it When I call my own tune. For I eat with gusto, damn you bet A regular canine cruncher Except truth be told I'm sloppier yet Than many a dog food muncher I eat a pound I eat a ton And no there ain't much I cuts up And while I'm having merry fun Bystanders puke their guts up. The FBI sent someone by Who handles health affairs I had not finished my cream pie When he chanced up
  17. Oh god, thanks for bringing that back from recesses of my brain. I'll add "No Rain" from around the same time. Or "Life is a Highway."
  18. First full-length album I bought was either Culture Club's Color By Numbers or Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual. My mom had a subscription to Columbia House and let me pick two out of the first 10 or 12 you get for a penny. First concert was the Monkees reunion tour. Weird Al opened.
  19. I know this one is painfully obvious, but I've had it playing on a loop in my brain this morning. Anyone else mentally sing "George, George, George of the jungle...strong as he can be" over the intro? Just me then? Okay... Here comes johnny yen again With the liquor and drugs And the flesh machine Hes gonna do another strip tease. Hey man, whered ya get that lotion?
