  1. Is there going to be a seperate MLB Playoff thread? I'd start one, but I don't want to potentially violate board etiquette by starting a thread deemed unnecessary.
  2. Isiah + MSG = sexual harassment I hope he does, but I bet Isiah doesn't even get fired. James Dolan is such an idiot.
  3. I just read both interviews. The Guardian lifted things straight from yours. Imitation/plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery.
  4. Thanks for posting this. It doesn't get much better than Jens.
  5. Baseball Prospectus - Biggest Collapses According to the article above, if the Mets miss the playoffs, it will be the second biggest collapse ever. I really can't believe what's happening to this team.
  6. One by One - Wilco The Party - Justice Beast For Thee - Bonnie Prince Billy/Matt Sweeney Ex Lion Tamer - Wire It Takes A Lot to Laugh... - Bob Dylan Biji - Sonny Rollins Let It Be Me - Nina Simone Scenic World - Beirut Suffragette City - David Bowie It's Gonna Take an Airplane - Destroyer
  7. I'm a little late to the "Back in the USSR" discussion, but... I love the Esher Demos version of that song. Paul just grooves along and there's no bad drumming. It's really great.
  8. On a somewhat related note, New York Magazine has Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach, and the Coen Bros on this week's cover. Here's a link to the Wes article: Wes Anderson - NY Magazine
  9. I do believe the documents were inauthentic. Perhaps not inauthentic beyond a reasonable doubt, but certainly by a preponderance of the evidence - Rather's apology (CBS can't verify the document's authenticity), Mapes own communications with CBS before the story aired (she wasn't 100% certain the documents were authentic). I don't know. I can agree with some of your later points, but I also think you're building the lawsuit up to be something that it is not. I personally don't think the lawsuit is about anything other than Dan Rather's legacy. To me, it's all about Dan. Dan thinks he was wro
  10. Good point. I wouldn't want this administration to set any precedent for the future. And that's why I can't really get behind Rather. For me, this story has nothing to do with the future. The story is uniquely about Bush, as a person. I just don't see how this is relevant in 2007. He can't be re-elected. His approval ratings are at record lows. At this point, there is nothing to be gained by trashing or exposing Bush. I'd rather build up a candidate I believe in for 2008.
  11. From the Blumenthal piece: "Rather's suit will seek to demonstrate that the documents used in his "60 Minutes II" piece were not inauthentic and that he and his producers acted responsibly in presenting them and the information they contained -- and that that information is true. Indeed, no credible source has refuted the essential facts of the story." Rather is looking to prove the documents are authentic. Can he actually do this? In his on-air apology (coerced, I know) Rather stated neither he nor CBS could prove the documents were authentic. Now he can? Alright, prove it to me, Dan. Ot
  12. Thank you. This is supposed to be a prelude to The Darjeeling Limited. I wanted to see it before I saw the movie.
  13. Someone needs to tell Rather to stop living in the past. Whatever the truth of the National Guard/Bush matter is, the false documents appeared in the broadcast. If Rather truly dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's, these documents would not have seen the light of day. Unfortunately for Dan they did and he's got to live with the consequences. Dan had been around a long time and CBS News was probably looking to make a change. After all, at the time, Brokaw was about to retire and Jennings was ill. All the other networks were changing, so CBS probably wanted to as well. By broadcasting a st
  14. Pitchfork posted an interview with him earlier this week (he's promoting a live recording of Metal Machine Music). I couldn't believe it when I read it. He was real friendly and was almost flirting with the interviewer. If anyone's interested, here's the link: Pitchfork - Lou Reed Interview I guess he can be nice when he wants to be.
  15. Thanks for the link. I found this: Big Pink Trip
  16. Any Band-obsessives, or people who just happened to be in Saugerties/Woodstock, ever try to find the Big Pink? Is it still there? Is it still pink?
  17. I don't know anyone who has said anything. The guy's slumping right now. It happens in baseball. Jeter was slumping until he went over the Green Monster on Sunday. They really haven't needed anything from A-Rod. The last time they really needed him he delivered with a go ahead RBI against Boston on Friday. It's a different A-Rod this year. No one I know is worried. The guy has had tons of big hits, a couple of walk-offs, he'll be fine. Screw the NY Post.
  18. Definitely go. Sonny can still play, and Steve Jordan really adds energy to his band. One last thing about Lou: he looked healthy/good in person. I've seen recent photos where he looked pretty haggard, but not in person. I was surprised. Thanks for indulging my excitement over seeing the guy. I feel kind of stupid about it, but, hey, it's Lou Reed. It's funny too because the soundtrack of my past week has been the 1969 VU album. I've hardly listened to anything else, and then to see the guy...
  19. It is such a cliche', but the baseball season is truly a marathon. It is amazing how things can change over time. Nonetheless, I still think the Mets and Red Sox are going to hold on. EDIT: I just heard that idiot Steve Phillips predict the same thing - the Red Sox and Mets would hold on. That's like the kiss of death. The Yankees and Phillies might just have a chance.
  20. The East's (AL and NL) are getting interesting. I did not see this coming.
  21. Like I wrote, I don't know if this warrants a thread, but I met Lou Reed tonight. That's right. Lou F'in Reed. Definitely in my top 10 of musical "heroes." I was waiting in line outside of Carnegie Hall to see another one of my musical heroes - Sonny Rollins - when this all went down. It was a total mess outside of Carnegie Hall, people everywhere waiting to get in. Anyway, I'm just standing there when this guy asks me, "is this the line for tickets or is it for people with tickets?" Well, I turn to look at the guy and it's Lou. Lou F'in Reed. I say, "it's the line for ticket holders." He sa
  22. Of the "other" albums, I really like "Northern Lights - Southern Cross." I've listened to it probably as much as the first two great ones.
  23. Whoever posted that video to You Tube did a nice job of removing the kid's prior antics - it basically starts when the cops move in. I mean, that kid was so obnoxious I almost - almost - side with the cops. However, I think with the tasering they did cross the line. Who knows though what it was like to be one of the officers. The first time I watched the video I thought the kid was on something. Still, there were a few officers there, and they should have been able to handle the situation without resorting to the taser. But who knows. It's easier to criticize the officers than it is to be an o
  24. Thanks for posting this. I wasn't aware of it, and was happy to vote. Wow. Mark Ecko has that kind of cash to throw around.
