  1. Right on. I didn't take offense or take your post as a personal affront or whatever. My point is not so much that it is impossible for one culture to properly deal with another culture, my point is, who can say if such a portrayal is proper? The writer says Anderson "mishandles race." I disagree. Films are personal creations. If Anderson's film is an honest representation of his view of India/the people of India, I feel he handled race properly. A director can't be all things to all people. He can only express his own personal view. If this view is seen by some to be narrow, so be it.
  2. I was being flippant. I don't agree with the article. The author of the article finds it offensive Anderson would use India and the people of India as a backdrop for the story of three white men. I guess the story of three white men must only be set amongst white people. If that's the case, maybe Wes should have made the brothers take a train trip through Connecticut instead. He could have named the film "Metro-North." Three brothers bond among drunken Wall-Streeters commuting to Fairfield County. What is the "proper" way to deal with race/other cultures? I don't know. Is there a proper
  3. I've read this article before, but it was about Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, Paul Schrader, Sidney Lumet, Copolla (Sofia). Wes, join the club. You're a white director who doesn't know how to properly deal with race/cultures foreign to your own.
  4. I don't like much after 1971. For me, it's a tie between John and George. All Things Must Pass, Plastic Ono Band, and Imagine are all great and I couldn't distinguish a favorite among them. Thus, the tie. I like McCartney and Ram, but not as much as the George and John albums I've mentioned. After 1971, it gets spotty. There are only some songs here and there that I like, and these songs are mainly by Paul.
  5. A.V. Club - Wes Anderson Interview There's been a lot of Wes Anderson content over there this week. The interview, list of films that influenced Anderson, list of films that Anderson influenced.
  6. Damn Yankees. Time for some changes. At least I won't have to see anymore Frank TV or Dane Cook ads. I wish the final four luck. May the best team win. (probably Boston, right?)
  7. I like the Stones more. Yet I don't know if the Stones are my favorite band ever. They might be. All I know is the Beatles aren't my favorite band ever. They're good though. No kidding, right. The Beatles were my first favorite band. That counts for something.
  8. I run 3-5 miles a day, but would never dream of running a marathon. Best of luck. I hope you get the 3:10.
  9. That's a pretty solid article. I blame the loss on the Yankees dormant offense. However, I also say the Indians wouldn't have gotten a run off of Joba if not for the bugs. The guy came in with two men on in the 7th and was lights out. The bugs emerge and he's all over the place with the ball. I blame the bugs for that. Oh, well. It is what it is. The Yankees have gotten some breaks over the years (Hello, Jeffrey Maier), and now they're getting some bad luck. Let's see what they're made off. They're home now. Time to win some games.
  10. "True Yankee?" I thinks it's merely a player that possesses some quality (tangible or intangible) that allows him to appeal to/be embraced by the fanbase. The most obvious tangible quality would be winning - the player contributed to the winning of a championship. Another tangible quality, closely related to winning, would be the player performed in the clutch/under pressure. However, there can also be the intangibles. Sorry for the example, but take Don Mattingly. He was embraced as a "True Yankee" before he was named captain and before he even had a chance to perform in the post-season.
  11. I like the Yankees chances of taking two at home. Can they then go back to Cleveland and win? I don't know, but I'd like them to at least get that opportunity.
  12. I agree with the "left feeling lukewarm" assessment. However, I felt the same way after seeing The Life Aquatic for the first time and wound up enjoying that film more on subsequent viewings. Thus, I'll have to withhold ultimate judgment until I see Darjeeling for a second time.
  13. I'm re-reading all the Zuckerman novels in chronological order before I read the new (and last) one.
  14. I don't know, the 50,000 plus that fill the Stadium every home game could be confused Mets fans who got on the 4 train instead of the 7. 11-3. I have a headache.
  15. I'm embarrassed by how this game is going. Good thing Pettite's up tomorrow. Go Yanks.
  16. Red Sox Pledge Night...I mean, Al East Championship Celebration Pictures I picked this gallery link up off of Deadspin. Most of the Sox fans have probably already seen them. What fraternity are these guys in? I kid.
  17. I couldn't tell you. What I would like to know though is whether the sax solo is by Brian Jones of the Stones. I've read that it is him, and I've read that it is not him. Which is it?
  18. There are a lot on The White Album that I've always liked. Back in the USSR - Dear Prudence Martha My Dear - I'm So Tired - Blackbird etc., etc. The whole album really. When I think about it, I could do any number of combinations that I think are perfect. Kind of Blue also cojoins pretty perfectly throughout. YHF as well.
  19. Like they say, he only delivers during the regular season.
  20. The Biggest Baseball News of the Day I love what the guy has done on the field this year, but could he wait a couple days to announce this? Why now? Oh, well. The Red Sox make beating the Angels look easy. Looked like October 2003 Beckett. Nice job.
  21. Stella Artois is a pretty good and easy to find Belgian.
  22. Thanks for the go ahead. I just started one up.
  23. I don't know if I'm alone in this, but the MLB Playoffs are, by far, my favorite sports event. Needless to say, today I'm a happy guy. My DS predictions: Angels - Sox: Sox Yankees - Indians: Yankees Cubs - D'Backs: Cubs Rockies - Phillies: Phillies Will these prove to be true? Probably not, but I'd love to see those Championship Series. Let the baseball begin. Good luck, everyone. I hope your teams do well (until they face the Yankees).
