The Yankees have had some bad luck with injuries, but every team deals with that. Most of the Yankees bad luck is of Brian Cashman's making. Kei Igawa? Pavano? Trading Sheffield within the AL? The bullpen? Letting Bernie go while he still had a little left in the tank. That's all nit-picking and hindsight judgments, but Cashman deserves some criticism. All that said, I do agree, a hot streak is imminent. They've already won 9 of 12, but I expect them to build on that.

Good point. Obnoxious Red Sox fans and polite, knowledgable Yankee fans do help fill AL ball parks across the country. (I'm joking - Yankee fans are just, if not more, obnoxious) I think the Red Sox are, in fact, the top road draw of all MLB teams. Also, there was this recent poll: Harris Poll The New York Yankees May Be Slumping on the Field, But They Are Still America

I apologize for the overconfidence. I'm just trying to stay positive. The Yanks have been playing better ball the last 3 series, and have a favorable schedule the next month. The Sox pitching is too good for them to be caught, but I do think the Wild Card is realistic. No disrespect to Indians and Twins fans, but I can see the Yanks being 7 games better then both of those teams the rest of the way. I think experience does count for something. Derek "ain't all the way black" Jeter and Joe "the Grand Wizard" Torre will find a way to get it done.

I don't know if it's about ratings. I think ESPN has a core audience that watches Sportscenter no matter what they cover. In college, I used to instinctively turn on Sportscenter regardless of whether they were talking about the Bulls, the Cowboys, or whoever. It was sports, it was on, so I watched. I think a lot of people are like that. I don't think coverage of specific teams alters their ratings much at all. If there is excessive coverage of the Yanks and Sox, I think, as it has been noted, it is probably due to both team's histories coupled with their recent success. The Yanks have been

I got the following mass e-mail from the Pernice Brothers camp. Pretty cool. I liked Meat is Murder enough that I'll probably give this novel a go when it is released. JOE PERNICE SIGNS DEAL WITH RIVERHEAD BOOKS, A DIVISION OF PENGUIN BOOKS USA, TO WRITE FICTION Joe Pernice has signed a book deal with Megan Lynch of Riverhead Books, a division of Penguin Books USA, for world rights. Joe will write a novel for them, which is about one-third done, but if you ask him when he'll finish his face turns all red, and he yells, "When I finish!" If we were betting people though, we'd bet th

Ex-Guru! It has a nice little groove, and I like hearing Eleanor sing "she means nothing to me now, I tell myself that everyday." Simple lyrics, but they carry weight when sung by her.

I'm Not There - Dylan Movie The link above is to a blog that has some more information about the movie. It looks like Malkmus, Yo La Tengo, Calexico, Sonic Youth and more are all contributing to the soundtrack.

So far, so good. I need to listen to it more though. It sounds like a Fiery Furnaces record. Crazy song structures. You get two or three songs in one.

That clip deserves a thread of its own. Weird, wild, wacky stuff. Was that supposed to Bob Neuwirth or John Lennon in the limo with Dylan? It looked like Neuwirth, but some of his dialogue seemed to quote Lennon from the Eat the Document limo ride outtake.

Nice pictures. Good job getting all the Yankee stuff. If they can put his shoes in the Hall, why can't they put Rose in the Hall? The guy's an a-hole, but he deserves to be inducted. Also, speaking of a-holes, nice "blood" on Schilling's sock. The $3 bill of baseball memorabilia.

I wouldn't go to either show on Friday. You're going to see both bands two days later. Stay home.

Bands that have one good album
boywiththorninside replied to stickman's topic in Someone Else's Song
When I listened to hip-hop heavily in the early 90's, one of my absolute favorite albums was Enta Da Stage by Black Moon. It was great, or, should I say, ill. Anyway, I don't think they ever did anything of note after that. Also, Lauryn Hill hasn't really done anything after her Grammy album. I could probably name other rappers, as it seems fairly common for them to "fall off" after a successful debut. However, this probably isn't the message board for that discussion. I'll spare you. -
I like the stuff from the 70's. That's when porn was porn.

Al Gore all over the cable talk shows

What about Martin and Hannah Van Buren? Martin Jr. spent his father's presidency hopped up on absinthe, while youngest son Smith Thompson was a notorious horse thief. -

I'd say "so what" if the kid could keep from getting behind the wheel and keep the hybrid below 100 mph. Unfortunately, Al 3 seems to have a penchant for getting high/drunk and driving fast. When you do that, your problem becomes everyone's problem. I hope he gets better before he kills someone. You're absolutely right though, this has nothing to do with Al and Tipper's parenting. You could have the best parents in the world and get caught up with that stuff. -

Al likes getting all over things - whether you or they like it or not. -
Music 'critics' with their head up their collective a$$es

Last year Paste (from where that review derived) created a list of the "100 Best Living Songwriters" and had Tweedy listed #24 (just above Robbie Robertson, Tom Petty, and Radiohead, and just below Lucinda Williams, Lou Reed and Van Morrison). So despite not being much of a lyricist, he must be doing something right. -

"The Town That Lost Its Groove Supply" is the song. It is good. They even played it on Letterman. Buy the album.

You go into pro wrestlling, you either die prematurely or you become the Governor of Minnesota. That list is unbelievable. To see the causes of death, I ran some of those names through Wikipedia. Car accidents, suicides, liver problems, overdoses, you name it. Crazy. Wikipedia also revealed George "the Animal" Steele is still alive. Mr. Fuji too. I was surprised.

Remaining Beatles & Bandmates' Widows to Reunite.

That was one hell of an interview by Larry "the Fifth Beatle" King. I think he called Ringo "George" at one point. -
Thanks for the link to the pictures. That was the one negative of the show for me. I was in the back and am only of average height, thus Jeff and Glenn were the only band members consistently in my line of vision. If you told me Jorgensen was out of the band, I would believe you. I didn't get a single look at him. Of course, seeing the band isn't important. Being seen is what matters. Did you guys see me? I was rocking some vintage threads, talking on my cell phone, checking my Blackberry, ordering drinks, rolling doobs, hitting on your girlfriend and shoving dudes every chance I got. I hop
