  1. I tried buying some titles (you can download or order physical copies from the Warner site) but unfortunately they don't sell to Canadian residences, so I ended up downloading untouched DVD versions instead. The quality on the ones I've watched have been pretty good, not amazing, but definitely acceptable considering the source material. The DVDs themselves are very barebones, you get a generic menu, with a play option and (on some of the releases) you get the trailer as an extra. The Warner Archives site has a pretty big selection of never before released on DVD/VHS TV movies/pilots and o
  2. I've been on a Warner Archives kick lately:
  3. I've been reading this one in between bouts with other books. It didn't really grip me at first but now I'm getting more into it as it nears the end. Far from an essential rock bio, but not without its merits.
  4. 8.5/10 - A totally enjoyable and slightly bizarre French thriller.
  5. Yeah, that was definitely Ben Harper.
  6. ^^ We set the DVR to record that but for some reason the 1st episode didn't record and the 2nd only recorded for 17 mins. I guess I'll be downloading them.
  7. I have a feeling that deep down Conan is glad for the out NBC gave him. His show at 11:35 p.m., though okay, was still a watered-down version of his former show, and ultimately a watered-down version of what made him unique. The 11:35 p.m. time slot stifles creativity and adventurousness to a great degree as networks and advertisers wield a lot of control over content in an effort to appeal to as wide, and as mainstream an audience as possible. It's the kiss of death to anyone with some edge or creative spark in them. This is probably why these shows are never hosted by the most talented comed
  8. I've always liked Roger. I often don't agree with his reviews but I always admire his passion for film. It's obvious that the guy is a true fan of movies, not just someone doing it because they get paid to. My favorite books of his are the collection of essays "Greatest Movies" & "Greatest Movies II" that delve into his favorite movies of all-time. The guy may have given great reviews to some shitty movies over the years, but when it comes to his choices for these books they're pretty impeccable for the most part.
  9. Seconded. Anyway, back on topic: Richard Buckner - The Hill
  10. A Mom of one of my friends from school (we're talking many years ago now) was a good friend of Catherine's. Not sure how well she knew Mary Margaret though. At the time Catherine was the only well known one in the family... I suppose that's still the case for the most part .
  11. The average hour long drama costs 2-3 million to produce per episode, so they'd roughly be looking at 44-66 million per season. Of course all that money they would have saved went out the window this week.
  12. Last 2 films watched: The Strawberry Statement 1991: The Year Punk Broke
  13. It is such a great song. I love it. Yeah, I think there's quite a few people that first heard the song via Tom Petty . NP: Man I love Mary Margaret O'Hara; incredible voice and talent. Apparently she's working on some new stuff finally .
  14. One of my all-time favorite groups. Saw Sly perform with the band on TV not that long ago, not sure how he'd be in a full length set... would be fun to check out nevertheless.
  15. Sly & The Family Stone would sometimes start a song with the chorus, not wanting to waste any time getting you hooked. Among their many talents, The Beatles were good at coming up with intros and bridges, and not sticking with conventional songwriting structures: sticking a solo, or a bridge where a chorus or verse would normally be, etc. This kept the (later period) music unpredictable, unique and more memorable.
  16. Thunderclap Newman - Hollywood Dream
  17. I actually caught that episode of Fallon. Once again I enjoyed his Neil impression, even though I didn't know what song he was spoofing until I Goggled it later on .
  18. I don't think P2P sites have been all that effected by the whole Oink (or Pirate Bay) cases at all. There are numerous sites still around doing exactly what Oink did. More now than ever actually. Every time a government goes after one, two pop-up in its place.
  19. I think Jay's decision to reclaim the Tonight Show was about ego, competitiveness, and wanting to go out on top. To retire after a fairly dismal showing at 10 p.m. would be a hard pill to swallow for anyone, especially someone who's been in the game as long as he has. As for the Letterman/Phoenix episode, people had already been talking about some pseudo-documentary Phoenix was making, so when he came out there and acted that way it wasn't really a surprise to those keeping abreast of his recent antics. I don't think he and Letterman prearranged anything, but Letterman knew he could have s
