I do enjoy a few Perry Como classics during the Christmas season. p.s. I've always loved the SCTV sketches of "Mr. Relaxation"--thanks for the flashback Sir Stewart.

For the most part I've never found Michael all that sympathetic. He has glimpses of kindness here and there, but in general he is petty, selfish and not too bright. And that's okay with me. I find that my liking or relating to a main character often doesn't have any bearing on my overall enjoyment of a show. I loved Seinfeld and none of those characters were sympathetic, ever. The Office does have characters that "feel" real and relatable, so at least there is a balance to offset things. I love those shows, probably even more than the Office.

I posted this in another thread awhile back: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d76/GtrP...stentoThis6.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d76/GtrP...stentoThis7.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d76/GtrP...stentoThis8.jpg

I watched the DVD of that last night, quite enjoyed it.

Jeff's new guitar sorta reminds me of Clapton's old psychedelic SG he used during his Cream days:

I'm pretty sure he used it for the Massey Hall shows in Toronto too.

I don't begrudge members of the audience that want to do this at all. To each their own. Really I'm just an old codger longing for a bygone era where concerts were more about music and less about technology. Nowadays a typical concert includes tapers, people videoing, photographing, holding up cellphones so friends can here, twittering/texting setlists as the show is happening... it all just seems a little too much sometimes.

I liked those Moodysson films you mentioned too. He was on a roll there for a while. I still haven't seen his last film, but I have it on DVD here somewhere--I didn't hear good things so I haven't been in a hurry to watch it. I saw Broken Wings at a film fest, not too many dry eyes in the house after that screening. I know mine weren't. There's an emotional realism to that film that makes it very powerful and moving. Someday, if I'm feeling brave, I'll have to give it another viewing.

It's a pretty enjoyable pop/psych record. Worth getting if you like what you've heard from them. NP:

The constant taking of photos and video is definitely a bit of an atmosphere killer. Anytime someone starts playing with these gadgets to capture a moment, they're actually removing themselves a little bit from that moment. It's like someone talking on their cell while driving; the focus isn't 100% where it should be. A rock concert should be visceral, make you want to move and be in the moment, it's not about trying to capture it (poorly) for later enjoyment.

On a bit of a Loudon bender today.

^^^ I quite liked Confederacy of Dunces. Someone gave me this one to read many years back: I think I got about 5 pages in before I had to put it down. The writing was so awful I couldn't take it anymore.

Yeah, I remember reading about that years ago. I first heard Carlos' music when she was still Walter. NP:

(Ventriloquist)Jeff Dunham + crazy success = wtf???

I think his use in the show made sense, he wasn't funny, making Jack's selection of him as the new cast mate ridiculous; a typically absurd 30 Rock moment. -

I use an old Korg DDD-5. Not the best out there, but has some charm and decent sounds. Your best bet would probably be to look for a used machine of some kind. Roland makes a few decent ones (Bands like the Magnetic Fields still use them for recording.)
