  1. chicago next weekend & seeing a bunch of good friends I miss dearly walking around manhattan after soundchecks as the sun sets later and later building a garden in front of our house, picking out some kickin' perennials for it driving up to my brother's comic book shop on staten island and hanging with him and my mom at it telling patti how beautiful she is over a big-ass lobster dinner down the shore while the sun sets later and later driving up to the acreage and pulling a tired old barn down, using the siding to make some frames saying good-bye to my old pal Shea Stadium this summer (an
  2. I like 'em too, the pullover-aspect just doesn't work for me... but obviously, with the Blue Jay image in the middle of the shirt, it has to be that way. I'm just glad they stayed with belts instead of going for the very-softbally Elastic Waistband.
  3. I kinda know what you mean, despite being mugged more than once in that New York (not that that can't still happen), in broad daylight no less. I always tried to imagine just how many "D" batteries those boomboxes would go through in those New York summers... them things could CRANK. And the cassettes always had fantastic graffiti on them. Like the trains.
  4. Thanks so much for posting that, Owl... I felt my heart slowly work its way to my throat as the reading went on from mid-afternoon on 4/4 to early evening. When I was little, I thought I was named after Dr. King. My mom had to explain to me that I was named after my father. I wasn't too happy about that. Still ain't. Rest in peace, Dr. King. The struggle continues, but the dream lives.
  5. And we'll be sure to play "eep-op-ork-ah-ah" if you do!!
  6. I got them at iTunes and they were .99 each, 5 of them total I think.
  7. I like how you moved the vocal melody back to start at a different chord at the beginning there... I've spent more time just listening to the different stems and enjoying them for what they are... imagine having this with tracks from revolver or sgt. pepper??? that'd be mind-blowing
  8. I can so vividly remember making deliveries throughout Manhattan in the summers of '81 & '82 and seeing crew after crew set up in spots throughout midtown, boomboxes cranking, and gigantic crowds ooh-ing and aah-ing at the sick moves that kids were coming up with... Rock Steady used to always set up at Lincoln Center or in Times Square, and everybody knew they were the best. Thinking back, it seems like it was a different city then. The days when Manhattan had that slightly-scary edge to it that seem so long-gone. The Manhattan where you had to walk FAST along 42nd Street and keep your e
  9. Too bad, Kevin, it'd be great to see you again on the 11th.
  10. whichever you like... original, rave-up singalong, hybrid of the two... we'll do it ALL hermano.
  11. That's what using 7 pitchers in 9 innings and then going onto extras will do... Davey Johnson did that with the Mets back in '86 or so. He put Jesse Orosco out in left or right, brought in Roger McDowell, then moved McDowell to the outfield and had Jesse come back in and pitch to the next hitter, depending on whether the hitter was lefty or righty, Orosco or McDowell would pitch. Extra innings necessitates extra ingenuity, I guess...
  12. I agree. Love the Felix the Cat avatar.
  13. Bobbob, that's a ridiculous comment. What was it, 4-0 at the time? Pitching is at such a premium in this over-expanded era that a lead of 6 runs or less is rarely safe. And pitch counts, especially this early in the season, usually mean you're going to lean on your bullpen, so anything goes. No one knew how many runs were going to be subsequently scored after that relatively-early event... and the point really is that they blew a call. What if it were the playoffs and the team that hit the homer were down 2 runs in the 8th? please say you don't really need this sort of stuff explained to
  14. just in case you might know someone looking for something to do in NYC on monday night... beer is relatively cheap, and now that CBs is gone it might be the most historic still-open venue along Bleecker. Chris Kuffner, our bass player, is the producer and primary player on Ingrid Michaelson's last two albums. All of a sudden that shit has blown up (which absolutely no one expected) and he'll be on the road with Ingrid opening for Ray LaMontagne this summer. They're also playing the Mile High Festival in July with the Black Crowes and some less-noteworthy mainstream superstars. YAY Chris!
  15. It was plain as day to see it was a poor call. Had Hanley hit it, I'd be saying the same thing. Shit, had A-Rod hit it, I'd be saying the same thing. No bias implied by anyone.
  16. maybe Otis Samuel Marvin Mayfield McPhatter...
  17. That's a fantastic story. An ounce of thoughtfulness gets ya way further than a gallon of petrol.
  18. i won't look like my dead star, but I'll sound like him...
  19. http://www.xmbaseball.com/ Left messages for a few of my YankeeFriends... hope they're getting a kick out of Derek Jeter leaving them a personalized message.
