  1. That John Kruk was one-nutty ballplayer... I'm Hanley Ramirez too. I wanted to be Christy Mathewson.
  2. Saw them at BB King's in NYC last fall... many folks said other shows were hit-and-miss, with Sly on the stage for a song, then off for 2, then on for 1, etc... but he was in fantastic form at the show we were lucky enough to see, hitting the notes, totally on his game. I feel blessed for having been there. The risk-to-reward ratio is high with seeing them, but if Sly comes through, it's incredibly worth it.
  3. topics merged... carry on! I'm a sucker for a Big Mac every once in awhile, but the Egg McMuffin really is the best thing they've got over there by far. When they first introduced them, they used to supply a thingy of jelly with it, the thought being that folks might like to lift off the top half of the muffin, throw some jelly on it, and eat it separate. rest in peace, sir
  4. a handful of my favorite 1-hit wonders Barbara Acklin - Love Makes a Woman Doris Troy - Just One Look The Raspberries - Go All the Way (though Eric Carmen had other hits solo) Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky Katrina and the Waves! - Walking on Sunshine! Bruce Channel - Hey Baby The Capitols - Cool Jerk The Five Stairsteps - Ooh Child
  5. EXQUISITELY put, Kyle (and you're right about the lyrics Matt)... but I would also choose him over Dave Matthews, with a rifle pointed at my privates, of course...
  6. don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Santo is anything near an Ernie Harwell when painting a word picture, and he's as big a homer as there is (though skip and chip caray come to mind as well), but a friday afternoon cubs game at wrigley with them reading faxes and all that insanity makes for a very entertaining listen. As an objective listener, I can't help but have a good non-partisan laugh when the Cubs are down late in a game with runners in scoring position and the batter hits an infield fly... Santo's groans of frustration are priceless.
  7. Tara, I'm praying hard for you, think positive, and be patient with your body as uses the time it needs to recover... you'll be feeling splendid in no time! Dunja, be as strong as you can, praying hard for you as well. All sorts of vibes emanating from the Great Northeast!
  8. I've gotten the radio and MLBtv packages for the past few years... great to be able to look in on west-coast games at 1am, but I find that I use the radio package much, much more... don't have to sit staring at the cpu. I run the computer sound through wireless speakers in the house, and get to listen to whatever game (or more appropriately, whatever announcer) I choose while cooking or gardening or whatever. Love picking up on the local color for each broadcasting team, including local adverts which are fun to hear, and being able to listen to Scully is a blessing. Hughes & Santo are grea
  9. i "made" this one... it's just a hi-res shot of the cover cropped to screen proportions.
  10. you have a lot of faith in that Phillies' pitching staff! Of course that is spoken by a Mets' fan...
  11. Almost done with this... fascinating read once I got a few pages in. Started reading it over the weekend and am just about done. You probably know the ending already.
  12. Cheesesteaks on me in June!!! Happy Birthday old friend! Just imagine these two serenading you with a Joisey Shaw version of Happy Birthday...
  13. glad to hear you can add/drop...
  14. I threw down several old-time lap steel players on my list: Joaquim Murphy, Speedy West, Leon McAuliffe, Sol Hoopii...
  15. SHOCKED that you spent $41 on Jose Reyes considering your lukewarm feelings for him. Was Hanley too expensive for you? Is this a 5x5 or head-to-head team? The pitching could be a revelation, or it could be a disaster. Would have loved to see you get one more double-digit pitcher. How often can you add/drop? I had my head-to-head, non-auction draft the other day (I'm the commissioner) in a 14-team, keep-up-to-4-for-up-to-5-years league. We have a unique option called Roster Freeze, where you can keep as many as you want from last year going into this year, but for the following 2 years, yo
  16. Yeah, we learned that the hard way last year, didn't we, Matt...
  17. ESPN is broadcasting today's Red Sox/Blue Jays game, and the announcers just mentioned that everything regarding the coach payment issue has been resolved.
  18. Sounds like some good times down there kiddies! Easy on the vegemite!
  19. With all of the money pouring down the waterfall into players' and owners' pockets, it's ludicrous that the coaches would be treated this way. Kudos to the players and Francona for having their backs.
  20. xoxoxoxoxoxo Judy! See you in a few weeks... this gent says, "This note's for you, Judy."
  21. No, it's music... It's gonna be a run of dates with our friend Dan Donnelly, playing some festivals in England, and we'll be doing dates in Ireland too... his original music with me on bass, Craig Meyer on drums, then my original music with Dan on bass and Craig on drums. Dan's booking the dates now and we'll know next month what they are. I'll let you know for sure then! Pint on me!
  22. I hear you Edie... it sure must have been fun being able to splurge like that with a clear conscience! I'm doing some shows in Ireland in August, and I'm hoping it doesn't turn into a horribly expensive deal. On a side note: more than a few of the irish bartenders working at other NYC pubs I play are heading home because the pay is better (!!!)
