  1. It sounds like 1963, but for now it sounds like heaven...
  2. Absolutely. And I like "Belvedere" a lot. "Wig" to my ears is an instant Patterson/DBT classic. Can't wait to hear it live next month.
  3. I agree. They certainly aren't reinventing the wheel, nor are they interested in doing so. I wouldn't say it's one particular thing for me that sets them apart. I just love their sound and the tales they spin.
  4. This seems to be a common observation shared by fans and critics of the band. Another song off the new album, "The Wig Her Made Her Wear," sounds fairly similar to "Belvedere" off Patterson's Murdering Oscar. I have no problems with it, but some folks seem to be bothered by it.
  5. No yawn emoticons? Where's the Son Volt drummer when you need him?
  6. I listened almost exclusively to Led Zeppelin in 8th grade and freshman year in high school. Walked away from them in college through adulthood. Came back to them about a year and a half ago at age 35. "In My Time Of Dying" is one of the greatest songs ever. All fucking eleven minutes and six seconds of it. I never want it to end.
  7. Somewhat cheating, as it's a re-release (original release in '03) with bonus material, but the "digital only" re-release of If Shacking Up Is All You Want to Do... by The Roadside Graves is fucking awesome.
  8. Speaking of guitar, the sleazy guitar work on "Wig" stabs you in the arm and invades like heroin. I won't even mention the demented laughter followed by the call of "sick bastard" that kicks this Truckers classic off.
  9. Not to put you on the spot, but I'm curious as to what those 3-5 songs are. I'll give you the 3-5 songs I'd cut - You And Your Crystal Meth, The Purgatory Line, Home Field Advantage, Daddy Needs A Drink, and I'm Sorry Huston. Still love it. Patterson envisioned it as a sprawling, 70's-styled, double album. I love it. Warts and all.
  10. I've had it for close to a month now. I like it, but definitely don't love it. To my ears, it sounds like what they were going for (but didn't quite accomplish) with A Blessing and a Curse - leaner, less "Southern," and potential for more mainstream appeal in classic rock circles. I like The Big To-Do more than ABAAC, but not as much as Brighter Than Creations Dark. I also find Murdering Oscar to be a better album that the new one. Cooley's songs are solid, but certainly not spectacular. The two songs that I absolutely fucking love are "The Wig He Made Her Wear" and "After the Scene Dies
  11. Some pretty impressive opening acts on this tour. I'd love to see Petty with DBT, but it appears I'll be doing one of the dates with MMJ in Boston.
  12. I immediately thought of Neko as well. I guess it was the 3rd attack for this whale. They are "investigating" how this could happen. Ummmmmm. It's a fucking killer whale. It's what they do.
