The last time I saw him with El Caballo Loco was in '03 in support of Greendale. Saw them at Taj Mahal Arena in Atlantic City. The "arena" resembled a high school gym. They set up folding chairs and pulled out wooden bleachers. The show was fucking amazing. The Black Keys new album - "Brothers"

Particularly his falsetto on "The Only One". I can't get enough of that song. -
I agree with you regarding The Stones. They were strongly influenced by the blues, but they made it into something uniquely their own. I love The Keys, but their songwriting is not in the same league as The Glimmer Twins. If a song makes me wet, then I'm probably blind drunk, have pissed myself, and, ultimately, it was not the song's doing in the first place. I think I know your position on The Black Key's music. Personally, I disagree with it. I think they craft some outstanding songs. I am a bit confused as to where your argument is going. This all started by you claiming the new a

I got the impression from his post that he is doing just that.

Didn't they used to say something similar about The Stones? Except, rather than 60's soul music, it was 40's/50's delta blues. I think the better way to describe the new Keys album is soul influenced, as opposed to a take on anything. This album has far more soul that anything they've done before, but is uniquely a Black Keys album. To each his/her own, but I think Brothers is brilliant.

I'm with you. Until it is properly released, there's no way I can begin to place this in their catalog. But I will say this album has quickly seeped into my veins. These guys fucking deliver the goods.

Did not like the first two songs they released (Hurricane J and Rock Problems). They seem to fit a bit better in the context of the album now that I've had several listens. I did not love Stay Positive. Some good songs on it, but a very uneven record overall. Based on the the first two songs and the lukewarm reaction I had to SP, I did not think I would like this album at all. But I gotta say I'm really enjoying it. I LOVE The Weekenders and really like Sweet Part of the City and Smidge. Some great stuff leaked in the past week or so - Black Keys, National, and this. 2010 is shaping up

Streaming right now. Sounds WAY better than the shitty leaked copies circulating out there.

The Black Keys new album - "Brothers"

Just pulled this off Nonesuch's site. About this Album In the August heat of 2009, The Black Keys left a Brooklyn studio—where they’d been working with an all-star posse of MCs—for 10 days in creative isolation at the historic Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama. Their geographical trek mirrored a musical journey, from contemporary hip-hop jams to the hallowed ground of classic R&B, that has resulted in the most cohesive album—and the deepest, steamiest grooves—of the duo’s eight-year career. These sessions yielded tunes that have the instantaneous, gotta-hear-it-again pull of a vintage -

Was/Is mine as well. However, I think it will lose that distinction by next week. -
Yup. Not a weak record in the batch.

Early yet, but I have a strong sense this will be my favorite Black Keys album. The first 1/2 oozes all kinds of funkiness and soul. The second half has a bit of a Keep It Hid vibe. Really digging this immensely.

Couldn't agree more. That album kicks all kinds of ass. Usually takes a few listens for me to warm up, but this one scorches right out of the gate.

I wonder if Neil will play "Borrowed Tune." He's already made a few memorable appearances on the show. -

KK wrote a song about it, "Sister Sinead," which was on his album from '09, Closer to the Bone. I’m singing this song for my sister Sinead Concerning the god awful mess that she made When she told them her truth just as hard as she could Her message profoundly was misunderstood There’s humans entrusted with guarding our gold And humans in charge of the saving of souls And humans responded all over the world Condemning that bald headed brave little girl And maybe she’s crazy and maybe she ain’t But so was Picasso and so were the saints And she’s never been partial to shackles or chains Sh -
Completely puzzled as to how this version of "Natural Beauty" did not wind up on Harvest Moon.

Yup. -
I've seen him 15 times over the past 17 years and each time was blown away. The guy brings it live. You are in for an absolute treat.

I listened to it fairly regularly last fall. And, I do like it. I LOVE "Peace in the Valley." It got a little bit of buzz last fall on the other forum I frequent. I was just surprised to see how frequently it was suddenly popping up in this thread for the reasons I stated last night. I have not seen them live, so I suppose that pokes a hole in my opinion a bit. I can see how my initial post gives the impression I have a negative opinion on it. I don't. It's more out of respect for some of the tastes on VC and the level to which most folks on here seem to be a whisker ahead of the cutti
