(If this is old news that I have just missed, moderators, please feel free to remove this posting.) But wow, Nels has some very interesting things to say in this interview, about the collaborative process with Jeff as well as that news about leaving Nonesuch and starting a new label.

Doesn't that sound like Jeff singing harmony? Can't tell for sure because of the way it's mixed, but it sure sounds like it to me. Anybody know where there might be lyrics posted? By the way, I agree it's a beautiful song.

A bit OT here, but wow, how weird is it to play Please Be Patient With Me as the first song of a show? You have to wonder if there's a story behind that--like maybe he wasn't feeling well that night and wanted to set expectations.

Any ideas about the use of cameras at Solid Sound? It would be nice if someone from the band management would let us know. I'm thinking that at a large outdoor venue like this, cameras may in fact be permitted, but I'd like to know "from the horse's mouth" if possible. Because I'm hoping we'll have not only the band but also their friends and families, maybe (very wishful thinking here) strolling around the grounds and mixing a bit with the crowd, it'd be nice to have good positive vibes all around and not stir up any crankiness!

Good point. We may be being too harsh, given that this was for a general audience and the interviewer would have to do some degree of summing up for the sake of context. I think it's the tone of his voice, actually, more than anything he said, that kinda grated on me: that very deep, polished radio voice with the odd pauses. That, and the weird comment about Wilco (The Song) sounding like rap?? Huh?? Again, though, it gave Jeff the opportunity to be magnanimous in his response, to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. I'm not sure when it was conducted, but sometime after the release of W(TA). Can't say I care too much for the interviewer, Jian Ghomeshi, but it's great to hear Jeff speaking so articulately on a broad range of topics. Am I picking up on a little dissatisfaction? Because maybe it's just me, but I am most definitely NOT disappointed in this schedule/lineup. This is not Lollapalooza, nor is it priced like that--not that money's the most important consideration. I'm envisioning a gathering of the Wilcohead community, with warm fuzzy feelings all around. Maybe there'll be a surprise or two coming our way, and maybe not, but I am more than thrilled about it, exactly as it stands! And in terms of bang for your buck, $90 for 3 days of bliss? C'mon, people!

I agree that the crowd at shows has a big impact on my enjoyment. First, it influences the band, and second, it directly influences ME. I like a happy, unpretentious, enthusiastic audience, and I suspect we'll have that. (Just saw my first Phish show at a small (6,000 capacity) amphitheater and the crowd was blissfully happy and completely into the show--at least a part of that was due to the music, I'm sure. ) I, for one, don't even try explaining my love for this band anymore. Wow, I just checked out a few videos on youtube of that Kidzapalooza set. I should not have sounded so dismissive--he really connects with the kids, and he played some great songs, all in such a loose, natural way. Hummingbird was just amazing.

Faxman, I know you were trying to sell your ticket due to some problems. Hope you didn't do it yet, because as cool as that Lollapalooza set might've been, I suspect that a grownup solo set will be even better. And for their very own festival, with everyone there "superfans"? Holy shit, just imagine being able to feed off all that crowd love. I am soooooo happy to see the Jeff solo set announced! Now, won't it be interesting to see what he chooses to perform at that set vs. the Wilco set(s)? Have they done anything like this before--like been at a festival and had a Wilco show as well as a Jeff Tweedy performance at the same venue? Inquiring minds want to know.

A little birdie just told me that a detailed schedule will be announced later this week. It will be posted on the Solid Sound website and probably emailed to people who've signed up, either there or wilcoworld.net. I was told there is something new that will be announced for the first time. No details, but you know what I'm wishing and hoping for!!

Oh yeah, it was apparently really remarkable to have Slave played so early in the show (according to my nephew the Phan and his Phriends, it may have been the earliest ever). It was a highlight. Another was the opening--There was a guy with a huge TUBE sign running around in front before the show, and it was an impressive effort. The crowd started chanting TUUUUUBE as the band took the stage. It got Trey's attention and they were all grinning. He commented that yeah, they take requests, "We"re an all request band" and then they launched into the song. It was very cool to see them be so spontan

Well, Wilco/Phish phans, my first show (Portsmouth, VA) was an unqualified success on all fronts. Everything sounded great to me and there was definitely a very cool and happy vibe at the show. (I haven't seen security be this nonexistent since. . .well, maybe forever.) The band was tight and, to my ears, they struck a perfect balance of composed and jamming. (This seems to be a matter of some controversy among the hardcore phans, but the thing that I haven't loved about some of what I've heard in the past is the long, meandering extended jams.) Oh, me too! I'll be there the whole time and I figure they'll make this a really special event, so I haven't been stressing about the details too much, but I would be over the moon if we get a Tweedy solo set. Maybe with Spencer on drums? (Yes, in my fantasy world, I'm imagining the whole Tweedy family wandering around the grounds, mingling with fans, maybe a couple of spontaneous happenings. OK, here's the perfect place to post my question, I hope: the fansite for my favorite band (Wilco, of course ) in a Phish thread. I'm a Phish concert virgin and to be honest have never really quite gotten the attraction. My 26 year old nephew, also a musician, is a massive fan (went to their Vermont "final shows", went to Red Rocks for the weekend, and much much more--trust me!) Anyway, I will be seeing them--with him and some other friends, an all-ages group--in a relatively small, amphitheatre venue in Portsmouth, VA on Tuesday night, 6/15. So I have questions for you Wilco/Phish fans:

Such a cool article. She sounds totally down to earth and genuinely enthusiastic about working with Jeff and the rest of Wilco. This has got to be an invigorating and renewing experience for Jeff. BTW, anybody notice that the photo was by Spencer? (I'm vaguely ashamed of myself for reading the blog of a 14 year old kid, but he is really remarkable!)

I lost mine too, about 2 years ago, but if I remember right it was pretty easy to get everything synced back up the same way you had it organized using iTunes. And if you don't need the newest and shiniest gadget you can probably get a replacement cheap via Craigslist. I paid about $100 for a 30G classic, which is what I had before and had paid much more for originally. Still, a pain to have this happen though, so I'll wish you good luck!
