Yes, but. . . .. I have such a hard time forgiving the person who directed Funny Games--not once but TWICE--that I just can't see his movies as anything but infuriating. But I'm trying, lord, I'm trying, because this one is gorgeous.

I wish I could offer you a ride or a room, but unfortunately the group I'm traveling with is going to be pretty full for both. However, it looks like several people are camping and hopefully someone will come through for you. Williamstown is just about 5 miles up the road, I think, and there may possibly be hotel rooms there (last minute cancellations?). I don't know, of course, but I'll bet that if you can find a place to sleep, you won't have any trouble catching a ride to and from the festival, since I think that's gong to be the big event in North Adams and the surrounding towns for the we

Well, this is my first listen to John Wayne Gacy, but to my ears it's a little too literal to be truly creepy. My number one candidate for creepy song--and brilliant too, by the way--is "In Germany Before the War" by Randy Newman. It's based on a real serial killer, Peter Kürten, from Dusseldorf, who was executed in 1931. Fritz Lang's movie M was also supposed to be based on this child murderer. Here's a young Randy Newman performing the song. I think the combination of sparse lyrics, haunting melody and the spaces in between make this one of the most chilling and beautiful songs ever written.

Ack! Maybe it's just a dearth of imagination, but I would HATE to see this. I love Arcade Fire, but I LOOOOVE Wilco. But who do you think would be the headliners on a combo tour? I don't wanna see my boys as the opening act for no stinkin' Arcade Fire! I could be wrong, but given their relative mass appeal and popularity, does anyone think that Arcade Fire would be the opening act for Wilco these days?

This was a good read, just posted on Gibson.com. A very nice retrospective appreciation of the first Mermaid Avenue album. http://www.gibson.co...rag-wilco-0808/ Apologies in advance for not resurrecting an older thread to post this, but I couldn't find one that was really on point.

I'm expecting him to make a guest appearance in my dreams Friday night! Does that count? (Remember THAT thread? LOL)

Lots of reviews have been posted about Mavis' performance, and I haven't read a bad one in the bunch. Here are a few links: http://blogs.suntime...lollapaloo.html http://www.examiner....s-Mavis-Staples and Greg Kot has a short piece with a little compare/contrast with Lady Gaga! http://www.chicagotr...,7289415.column

You are most welcome. And for those not tired of reading yet, here's another article, from the local North Adams Transcript, based on an interview with Glenn. Lots of reading, I know, but some really interesting stuff in here. Wilco drummer is already hoping for an encore By John E. Mitchell Friday July 30, 2010 North Adams Transcript NORTH ADAMS -- Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche will make his personal contribution to the Solid Sound Festival (Aug. 13-15 at Mass MoCA) in the form of a performance by his side project, On Fillmore, as well as an installation designed to give audie

Here's a great article that I haven't seen posted on here before, from Berkshire Living. I'm including the full text below. Some wonderful new information about what's in store for us! THE BEAT GOES ON: Wilco's Solid Sound Festival Written by Seth Rogovoy Wilco invites its favorite bands and all of its fans to a three-day party at MASS MoCA Jeff Tweedy

There's a video--which I of course won't post--of an extended Spiders/Kidsmoke jam with Wilco and Yo La Tengo at Keystone Park on 7/13/09. At about 6 minutes in (of a 9 minute clip) Jeff is leading the crowd in over the head clapping and says "You're going to feel this in the morning. And it's gonna feel good. It's gonna feel real good." I love that moment. Let's hope we all have sore arms and legs on Sunday morning!

greetings friends. A quick note that we've just finished the Special Solid Sound edition Wilco Podcast, this time featuring Jeff Tweedy's take on the music, the festival, and more. You can get it here. Tickets are still available for the festival here, where you'll also find info about transport, hotels and more. 3 days of Wilco and friends in the beautiful, cool (as in not hot) Berkshires. What better way to spend a late summer weekend? it's just a week away. See you there? the HQ staff.

Yes, that's exactly how to do it. . . when I think back on what I had to do. (But my explanation would have gone something like this: Click on the link, then keep doubleclicking or right clicking on anything that pops up until you finally get it to work.) I think your way of explaining it was just a smidge better than mine. But maybe that's why I still can't figure out how to do bittorrent.

I knew there was a reason to be up late. Just got the message from wilcoworld that the new podcast was finally available--listening to it now. Fighting the urge to skip ahead through the songs and listen to Jeff's . . . uhhh. . . unrehearsed intros and comments.

What a terrible run of bad news. Having tragedies like this strike people who are in our orbit, even if they're not immediate family or close friends, reminds you of how ephemeral life really is. I hope the music and the wine help. It'll also be good to reach out to the families however you can. Just makes you feel more connected, and like you're doing whatever you can. Good luck.

I don't like having these numbers tossed around, and I have to say it seems like a kind of dodgy thing for a promoter to be talking about on a fan site.

Shame on me for forgetting Mountain Stage. Seriously. Sorry, West Virginia!

I would be there in a heartbeat. I'm in Norfolk VA. Edit: Though I have to say, Charleston is off the beaten path and, so far as I know, not home to a flourishing music scene. They're not going to draw the same crowds as they would with their bands, obviously, and do the local college kids care enough? Whereas, for instance, in Charlottesville, VA, it would be a sellout, I'm sure. Even though it's also off the beaten track, there's more of a known music scene and it's within easy driving distance of Richmond and DC. Plus, Tweedy had a successful solo show in C'ville and would, I think be

Yep, yep and yep. To all the above, Kidsmoke and Timewasajoke. I've gone to quite a few festivals, and they can be fun, but they're also frustrating, with too many different acts vying for your attention, too short sets from the performers you really want to see, long lines at porta potties, and on and on. This, on the other hand, is like Wilco nirvana. I mean, who's going to come? Nothing but Wilco fans! And probably not too many casual fans, either--I don't expect there to be too many sloppy drunks, inconsiderate yakkers, frat boys trying to latch on to something indie and cool. I think i

Anybody ever get this to work? Despite the fast response I got from wilcoworld.net tech support, the problem still isn't fixed. The link still appears on the wilcoworld website, though.

Oh, right--didn't recognize her. Thanks.

VC meetup @ Solid Sound--Roll Call! Who's In?
Magnetized replied to Magnetized's topic in Just A Fan
Hi everyone, and thanks for signing up. I spoke with Kate, the owner of The Hub, yesterday, and she's very happy about our coming. I bumped our reservation up to 20, although I told her that more people than that may actually show up, and she seemed to feel there would be no problem accommodating us. (There was an unconfirmed reservation from a wedding party at 5:30, but she was planning to call them and see if they are really coming--she had not heard from them for a while.) She said to just come on down, they'll take care of us! Some of you have said you'd like to come a little earlier tha -
Hey, don't get mad and leave. Your review was honest and fresh and stream of consciousness style, and you weren't saying just PC things. It's what you felt. I didn't pick up that you hated the show or the band. And believe it or not, there are lots of dissenting voices on this site--not everyone loves everything equally! But the people who've been on here a long time do feel kind of proprietary about this band. And I sure didn't think that any of the reactions to your review were exactly "hating." You can't be too thin-skinned on a fansite like this, y'know? To end on a positive note, nice u

Do you need another reason to love this band? I just sent an email to support@wilcoworld.net to let them know the new podcast entry isn't working, and instead of the usual automated response, I got this in 2 minutes: From: WILCO HQ [mailto:hq@wilcoworld.net] Sent: Monday, August 02, 2010 3:55 PM To: xxxx Cc: support@wilcoworld.net Subject: Re: Solid Sound podcast doesn't seem to be working we will check into it.. can get back to you.. thanks for the heads up ken WILCO HQ hq@wilcoworld.net No, I don't think it's fixed yet, but can you believe a real r

Can you guys play this? I can't. I have the Wilco podcast on my iTunes and I just went in to update it, then I tried looking for all available episodes, but I'm not able to get this one. I also tried playing it directly from the roadcase but I get no sound. I must be overlooking something obvious, but I can't figure it out. Any help out there?
