  1. OK, here's the perfect place to post my question, I hope: the fansite for my favorite band (Wilco, of course ) in a Phish thread. I'm a Phish concert virgin and to be honest have never really quite gotten the attraction. My 26 year old nephew, also a musician, is a massive fan (went to their Vermont "final shows", went to Red Rocks for the weekend, and much much more--trust me!) Anyway, I will be seeing them--with him and some other friends, an all-ages group--in a relatively small, amphitheatre venue in Portsmouth, VA on Tuesday night, 6/15. So I have questions for you Wilco/Phish fans:
  2. Such a cool article. She sounds totally down to earth and genuinely enthusiastic about working with Jeff and the rest of Wilco. This has got to be an invigorating and renewing experience for Jeff. BTW, anybody notice that the photo was by Spencer? (I'm vaguely ashamed of myself for reading the blog of a 14 year old kid, but he is really remarkable!)
  3. I lost mine too, about 2 years ago, but if I remember right it was pretty easy to get everything synced back up the same way you had it organized using iTunes. And if you don't need the newest and shiniest gadget you can probably get a replacement cheap via Craigslist. I paid about $100 for a 30G classic, which is what I had before and had paid much more for originally. Still, a pain to have this happen though, so I'll wish you good luck!
  4. Well, I assume you're right, but this is like one of those optical illusion things, where once you get stuck on one image you can't get your brain to switch to anything else. All I can see is some puppet-like horse's head coming in from the side of the frame at 2:20, and I can't stop laughing every time I look at it. And I am not impaired at the moment! Must be time for bed.
  5. That was a very nice cover. Your friend has a good voice and great taste! But check out something coming in from the right side of the frame at about 2:20--what the hell is that? A horse's head? I honestly can't figure it out--cracks me up!
  6. In "A Shot in the Arm" where the lyrics are Your pillow wept You covered your eyes I thought it was You pirouette, you cover your eyes A big thank you to bemydemon.org for setting me straight, on this and countless other lyrics.
  7. Wow, I had no idea about the earlier technical difficulties. How cool is it that they were able to vamp their way through?? And that article in the paper seemed to point to them as the highlight of the festival--if my Spanish translation was close to correct. That was in the face of some pretty heavy competition, too.
  8. Just in case anyone's reading this thread, right now www.wfmu.org is streaming Pavement! Set just started. . .
  9. Kinda off topic, but my favorite album (yes, WHOLE album) back in the day was Astral Weeks. I still get a little twinge when I hear it! I'll have to think about my favorite Wilco. Not sure I could concentrate adequately on the matter at hand when Jeff is singing to me, though.
  10. Very nice , if short, set. Jeff was in good voice and the band sounded like they were having fun. One Wing Shot in the Arm Country Disappeared Handshake Drugs Impossible Germany Via Chicago I'll Fight Heavy Metal Drummer Late Greats I'm the Man Who Loves You Kicking Television (preceded by Jeff saying "I'm going to leave you with some friendly advice. . . )
  11. Looks like a few more people are joining us. Still an exclusive little crowd though--must be due to the time of day. I'm keeping a setlist now and will post after the show. You're right--great sound quality. Jeff said Gracias before launching into HMD!
  12. then: Country Disappeared Handshake Drugs Impossible Germany (right now, at 7:14 PM Eastern) Am I missing anything? I'm bad at setlists.
  13. Been waiting for a while for this show to start, but it's worth it. Listening to Handshake Drugs right now. . . .
  14. Oh yes, we wuz worried! Sad to say, I REALLY missed my daily dose of Wilco affirmation on this forum. Don't ever leave us again. Please.
  15. I saw a theater piece in Norfolk, VA a few weeks ago, just after the Wilco show at The National in Richmond. I was still in full on obnoxious mode, boring the hell out of all my friends about "the best concert EVER" and I guess they thoght I might finally shut up once I had a new sensory experience. The play was "Darwin in Malibu" and guess what music was played at the opening? California Stars! I of course immediately turned to my friends and said "Wilco!" I don't think they even believed it. :-) It was played again at the end of the show. Just another weird and wonderful Wilco moment. The
  16. Great idea for a thread, and I'll add my 2 cents worth. I saw the Richmond show and was completely blown away. It was my 4th time seeing Wilco and by far the best show ever, though these guys never do anything halfway. But what a thrill getting to see 3 solid hours of my favorite band and the most soulful, nurturing music ever, in a great standup venue and just two back from the front, right between Jeff and Nels. It was absolute nirvana for this fan. It's been exactly 2 weeks since that show and I am still into my obsessive post-concert preoccupation, listening to the Boston show from Roadc
  17. Thanks for posting this. I do love John Prine and will check this out for sure. I have to say, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the mention of "tribute"--I feared the worst. Very glad to see it's just a tribute rather than a memorial!
  18. Hoarding was not my intention. I just didn't have time to check out which place was the best price/value ratio, so I booked a few with the intention of canceling the others today if no one wants 'em. Once I've done my research, and if no one on this board wants to have me transfer a res to them, then they'll be freed up. K?
  19. Got 2 tickets! And I've made a few reservations around town (all in the $130-$160 price range), just to be on the safe side. They were all refundable, so I plan to cancel all but one of them. If anyone's interested in taking over one of my reservations, let me know. Or if you are looking for a roommate, I think I'm going to need one. So far, I can't find anyone else interested in making the trip from Norfolk, VA. I'm 59, female, easygoing, rabid fan. BTW, my reservations are all at hotels/bed and breakfasts in Williamstown--I couldn't get anything in North Adams. Williamstown is apparently abo
  20. Same here, Wise Enough. I will be. . .um, celebrating?. . .my 60th birthday just shortly before this festival, and no one else I know is crazy enough to just take a flyer on an event like this. But I say, how often in your life does the possibility of a completely blissful weekend, filled with great music from your favorite band, high spirits and the company of lots of like-minded people come along? Some of my peak experiences have been the result of spontaneous decisions to do things that didn't make rational sense to anyone but me. So maybe it's naive to think this, but I've found that you c
  21. Boy oh boy, am I having trouble finding a room for this thing! I wonder if you know, is the Redwood as horrible as it sounds on TripAdvisor? It seems to be the only place even halfway near and under $300. But the reviews make it sound like an almost frighteningly bad place to be. Any suggestions?
  22. I couldn't get on for most of the first hour. Did they already do Jesus Etc? Sounds like the crowd is miked a bit tonight--it would be fun to hear the singalong. I'm looking at a picture of Jeff. . . . :-)
