  1. Okay can we get back to legitmate discussion? Has anyone seen the CNBC doc "The Hunt for Black Gold"? I thought it was very well done. Why is more not being done to refute the idea that offshore and ANWR drilling will have an immediate impact on energy independence? There were oil industry lobbyists and executives in this doc that concede that we don't have the infrastructure to do anything with these reserves and we'd be looking at 10 years before we felt even a minor impact. Yet it seems even many liberals now believe that offshore and ANWR drilling is important (in concert with pursuing
  2. It's certainly not my favorite on the album, but it is far from the worst. That honor belongs to On & On & On which is the only song that comes to mind for me which I HATE so much that I MUST skip it. Of course, I'll skip the the white noise on Less Than You Think, but I quite like the actual song.
  3. I think it's tough to say "clearly" but I'd take my chances with Gore or McCain in 2000 or Kerry in 2004 over W if I could go back in time that's for sure.
  4. Right but it sank lower than that in the following weeks before eventually starting a slow climb back above the 10K threshold. ETA: link First close above 8K was more than 10 years ago!
  5. 7286 was the post 9/11 low, correct? I bet it goes below that before we see bottom.
  6. Wouldn't it be nice if election time was the time I felt best about my country instead of feeling the worst about it? And my horse is leading!
  7. Yeah still a long way to go, but as it stands now, McCain would need to pull all of the "toss up" (and he is currently leading only in IN) and win closer Obama states like Virginia, Wisconsin, Michigan and Washington. Given he has pulled out of Michigan, that doesn't look good. Does anyone know of a way to compare this year's polls to poll's from the same # of weeks out from previous elections? On this site or any other site? That, to me, would be interesting. Are there states, for example, that 4 weeks out kerry was polling with an 8% lead and ending up losing the state.
  8. At the risk of putting this thread back on topic, Real Clear has its electoral map with Obama over the 270 mark with Virginia's latest polls.
  9. Here are couple pictures. I didn't take too many of the bands (and I'm sure no one wants to see a bunch of pictures of me, my friends and family ), but I like these two: Man Man... great show! A different perspective:
  10. As I've stated before on this board, I'm not a lyrics first music listener. That said, I think you can easily appreciate music without subscribing to its messages. For example, I am NOT religious or Christian, yet there is a lot of music about Christ and God and Biblical stories that I love. How is that any different from music that has a political bent one way or the other?
  11. I love Phish. I have been listening to them since '88 and first saw them in early '89. I am, no doubt, most a fan of Phish when they are well-rehearsed and playing more complex compositions. I find most of the so-called ambient and funk of the later years boring and not playing to the band's strengths. I am excited to see them return though i will not travel to see them. I hope that they practice practice practice! The tightness of the composed sections is, of course, one reason. But more importantly, the improv is more focused when they are well-rehearsed, IMO. I think the last few Phish albu
  12. There's this and this. I've never used them, though.
  13. 30 Rock is funny... mostly because of Alec Baldwin. Not as funny as Arrested Development, but nothing is.
  14. They're missing songs? All of the Halloween "musical costume" shows are official releases as is the '90 show from Colorado College. I wasn't aware any of them were missing songs.
  15. What does Bobby's singing have to do with Clarence?
  16. You know the most interesting poll to me is Bush's approval rating. One in four people still think that guy is doing a bang-up job. Who are these people!?!
  17. Well from what the immediate aftermath polls are saying*, perception is Obama seemed to have the more calm and collected demeanor and provided (again what the polls are saying, not me) more reasoned and nuanced answers to the questions actually asked. What this is seemingly resulting in is McCain's lone strength of "experience" is now a non-factor. Further, polls are showing that, despite being younger, less experienced and from the challenger party, voters now perceive Obama as the "safe choice." All this is interesting, but I don't think any of it is solid as that debate didn't seem to solid
  18. Poor Places Muzzle of Bees Hummingbird IATTBYH ALTWYS Others that could make the list on any given day: Ashes of American Flags Handshake Drugs Theologians Radio Cure Wishful Thinking You Are My Face I'm limiting this to Wilco. If I included Loose Fur and Tweedy-accompanied Jim O'Rourke, this list would look much different.
  19. There are several impressions during those ads that i have no idea who is supposed to be. That's generally not a sign of a successful impressionist. The ones I DO know are so generic as to render the actual impression totally unfunny, even when the impersonation is okay.
  20. I gave my mom Broadway tickets and a limo to the show for her and her sister for her 60th. She loved it! The worst: a year subscription to Netflix. She was a slave to it, stopping everything to watch the movie when it arrived so she could send it back as soon as possible to "get her money's worth" when I paid for it.
