  1. I, as an atheist, would say the principles expressed here offer a good example of how atheists aren't "arrogant" as is so commonly suggested except the way in which you make every single argument IS arrogant. Even Bill Maher says certainty on the side of atheism is just as bad as certainty on the side of religion.
  2. Perhaps he meant (or he said and I just heard wrong) unanswered? Did the Rays go up 7-nada?
  3. I just got home to watch in the 9th. Did Joe Buck say the BoSox had 7 unearned runs!?!
  4. I'm told is real. can anyone verify? Seems ridiculous even for this campaign.
  5. If you say so. Perplexing to me, but whatever. Same platform= same platform. I'm just worried (and I'm not accusing you of this) that many seem to hating on Obama just because he is winning. If he wins, hold him accountable, push your locally elected officials for the representation of your views, etc. But don't automatically oppose everything just because your horse didn't win. Again, not speaking directly to you, bleedorange. I would say the same thing to Obama supporters should McCain win.
  6. Why exactly? As many were fond of pointing out on this board during the primaries, Hill and Barry have extremely similar platforms. Both have limited experience (unless you count First Lady as Executive experience). And it seems to me, Obama is a charismatic leader that, although many of you seem to want to hold that against him, was one of the reason Reagan was so successful. The other has the Clinton baggage which was incredibly divisive (although I don't really fault her for that) during Bill's terms. Do you just think 1600 could use more of a woman's touch?
  7. I'm still not clear on what ACORN is doing and what, if any, connection to either campaign it has. McCain has also worked with ACORN if I'm not mistaken. If there is any fraud or voter suppression, that is unacceptable and those behind it -- yes, even those in the Obama campaign should that become apparent -- should be dealt with harshly. I don't just want MY guy to win at any cost. I want the guy to win that most of county supports.
  8. This kinda interesting. It is supposedly the tape that Phish sent to Phil Lesh prior to their '98 Phil & Friends stint at the Warfield. Seems odd to me they would include Terrapin (particularly since it's not that good, IMO), but there it is... http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=519316
  9. Oh man.... who cares!?! Even if the dude was making everything up to try to trip up Obama, he still raises an issue which is obviously of confusion to even some very smart people on this board. The Dems should take the opportunity to discuss the issue raised to open debate so we can, as a country, try to vet various plans to determine what is best for the country, not try to simply discredit the guy. Where does that get us? Just like when Palin was chosen, the bloggers and other pundits seize on the petty rather than the legitimate issues.
  10. That doesn't seem like a very nice thing to say.
  11. Well my first one was worse and I returned it. Are you telling me that I got "unlucky" twice? If so, that doesn't bode well for Apple's QA.
  12. This just in: Apple sucks just as bad as Windows. Fed up with crashes and freezes, I switched to a brand spanking new Mac in the spring. After about six months with it, I can unequivocally say that Apple is NO BETTER than Windows and I may like it less. First, I get Apple's own version of the blue screen of death (the black box message that tells me I need to hold down the power button to shut off my computer) on average once per week. That is MORE than I have EVER had crashes with a PC. The little rainbow pinwheel thing indicating the Mac is working is pretty much omnipresent. Lastly, beyond
  13. Seriously, if you like jazz and/or any of the guests listed, you NEED this album. Definitely in my top 10 for 2008 after only one spin.
  14. Wait... who is voting against their personal interests? As I said, I benefit more from the McCain plan on the surface. But I believe that is a short-term benefit at best. I am not being altruistic by voting for Obama; I believe his plan is better for long-term viability and will end up benefitting me and my future children the most.
  15. I saw his set at ACL. He is playing essentially (exactly?) the same set each night. I love the new album and the new songs (which are more or less alternated with Eno-era Talking Heads tunes plus Help Me Somebody from Bush of Ghosts) stand up nicely next to the classics. I love the amateurish dancers as well. Made for a typically interesting and unique Byrne show. If you like the new album and the previous Byrne/Eno collaborations, you'll like this.
  16. As an individual, McCain's tax proposal would benefit me more, though I don't make over $250K. Once married in the spring, our joint income would be above the $250k mark...barely. Here is what I said in the previous thread: I don't read it that way at all. I'm in the camp that would pay more under Obama's plan, but the past eight years have shown, IMO, that a global economy such that it is cannot sustain the trickle down policies of Reaganomics (if they ever could). I would love to see government spend less, but we are in too big of a hole to simply spend less so our revenue needs to come f
  17. Of course I do. I'm not sure anyone is saying having different ideas about what is right for the country is nuts (and I object to the use of that word no matter what in this discussion). For me, (and not to put words in anyone's mouth) it seems hard to fathom how anyone could NOT be appalled by the campaign McCain has run. I had a LOT of respect for McCain and when he won the primary, I thought "I could be happy with either candidate." Those days are done and I have a hard time seeing how anyone could look at how quickly he sold out his well-earned respect, integrity and character and NOT be
  18. Michael: [to Karen] Wow, you are very exotic looking. Was your dad a G.I.?
  19. I'd love to vote for a republican. Unfortunately the GOP bears no resemblance to the republican ideals I believe in. They are not for less government; they are for government intruding in different parts of your life than the Dems. They are not for less spending; they are for different spending than the Dems. At this point I've resigned myself to that fact and therefore pick the candidate that will intrude in areas I care less about and spend on things I care more about. But also, they are BOTH spending money we don't have. Empty promises about not raising taxes fall on my deaf ears. We will h
  20. I have 26,000+ songs on my iTunes and coincidentally, a song from San Quentin came up on shuffle as I was reading this thread.
  21. I took this test about 15 years ago and was an ENTP.
  22. Well earlier in the evening I responded in what I felt was a reasonable way to engage you in a discussion of issues to try to understand each others points of view to hopefully make BOTH of us more informed voters. You ignored the response in favor of baiting other posters. Perhaps I expect too much, but I'd rather ignore the vitriol and concentrate on understanding the philosophical differences I have with other voters.
  23. Wow, the ability of this thread to ignore all reasoned and civil discussion in favor of vitriol, hyperbole and distortions has sunk to a new low. I guess I shouldn't expect less in October of an election year.
