  1. Yeah I think the GOP would rather Ole Ted just disappear at this point. Source
  2. How about Curtain->All Things Reconsidered->YEM or Fluffhead. You think that might excite the base?
  3. Thanks. Yeah, I am somewhat familiar with this band.
  4. I wwent to that MSG show last reunion and while the energy was fantastic when the lights went down, I don't think i need to do it again. Hampton is just too far. I will wait for Red Rocks. As for the first tune, I think they should play either a new tune and make a clean start, Fluffhead (which, by their inability to play it, became sort a symbol for their lack of practice post-hiatus), The Curtain (the curtain fell, now it goes back up), or my favorite: All Things Reconsidered.
  5. I'd like to think so, but I think this is the evangelical right. They are going to continue to push the idea that if you are not one of them, they will not vote for the ticket and the GOP is screwed. They will try to paint the election as McCain not having the support of the base and it was only Palin that kept it from being embarrassing (assuming it isn't embarrassing).
  6. Well said. I used to feel Obama's theme was shared by McCain in the pre-Palin-as-Veep world.
  7. Does onstage count? Honestly I wouldn't call onstage good seats. The sound sucks. I think the sound generally sucks in the first few rows too.
  8. I didn't watch the Obama Show. I don't like political commercials, no matter how long or what the production value is. I DID, however, watch "Choice 2008" the Frontline special on the election. Very good stuff if you haven't seen it. I highly recommend it.
  9. Just Shuffles. They're not as expensive as you might think if you get them refurbished (~$40 per). I need to get some groomsmen gift anyway for my four groomsmen.
  10. I'm doing something similar. We are having a bluegrass band play during the ceremony, but I am using iTunes for the dinner music and for the reception. I don't have a playlist, per se, but I do have collections of songs that CAN be played. For example, there is a playlist for slow dance music, one for dinner music, one for upbeat dinner music, one for "fun" dance music (stuff like Michael Jackson and Journey). Friends will take turns DJing. I am not making mix CDs for everyone, but I am giving my groomsmen and our officiant (who is a close friend) personalized, pre-loaded iPods. I haven't e
  11. I think their overall production quality has improved with each album with the exception of ST. That one just sounds weird to me. I am referring only to the mix and way the instruments sound. The arrangements on YHF and AGiB are FAR superior to anything else in their catalog to me... and I'm NOT a fan of the noise. ...opinions... assholes....
  12. I hate when JOR's contributions are dismissed as just adding noise. My impression (and granted I have no inside info to back this up) is that Jim challenged Jeff to get more creative. I think your point about the great stuff on BAitUSA is evidence of that. I actually don't even really like the white noise. I think Jim -- and to some extent Jay -- pushed Jeff to think differently. For example, my favorite Wilco song is Poor Places, but I almost always skip to the next track when the noise takes over. It's not the noise I appreciate or that i think makes it different and interesting. It is the f
  13. You know what is surprising to me? it's not fiscal conservatives bailing from the GOP. I consider myself one and think at best the GOP has abandoned its core values and at worst its ideas of fiscal conservatism (read: trickle down) no longer work. Frankly I think its both. No, what surprises me is how many social conservatives are voting Obama. Some of you may remember I used to work in Colorado Springs with some serious social conservatives. These are New Life Church and Focus on the Family members. I am shocked at how many tell me they are voting Obama.
  14. Yeah I voted early with a mail-in ballot, so I had no issues with lines, etc. But I can see how the sheer numbers of early voters might discourage some.
  15. A picture of Palau, one of our first stops on our honeymoon next year.
  16. Interesting. The split is 50/50 early voters to election day voters (with one asshole shirking his or her civic duties ). I don't know why anyone with the opportunity to vote early wouldn't.
  17. Favorite eras (after the aforementioned Oct-Dec '73): - Spring '69 (although a little goes a long a way as there isn't much variation in material) - Summer-Fall '74 - Spring '77 - '89-'90 (Jerry was relatively healthy and inspired and the Jerry ballads never sounded better)
  18. Well I'll tell you my purpose in purchasing those release (of which i only have a few). I bought them because they were SACDs or DVD-Audio releases. So while the 5.1 mixes being included were interesting, I primarily bought them to have versions of some of my favorites in higher quality stereo mixes. I'll agree that there is probably a rapidly shrinking market for such releases though. Although vinyl has made somewhat of a comeback due to people looking for better quality.
  19. If they are not forced, they can be great. But all too often the engineer tries to force a swirling sound or something into the mix that doesn't work. How about a 5.1 version of Zaireeka!
  20. I guess the prospect of touring in Kentuck isn't thrilling to Jeff.
  21. Where's IBD Editorial today on the market reacting to a possible Obama Presidency? Oh right, they only blame him when it goes bad! BTW, this is not good, in my opinion. Volatility is bad, mmmkay.
  22. 12/6/73 is one of my favorites. Of course, I love just about everything from October through December '73.
