  1. The first thing that comes to mind is Super Furry Animals. I discovered them in 2003 at the recommendation of Whitty (who posted above) on another message board and they have subsequently become a top 5 band for me.
  2. I do. Although I haven't listened to them much (at all?) since I first got them. That may be a review in and of itself. It is a nice historical document, especially if you prefer earlier Phish. But anything from '91 though '94 is going to get into my rotation before this would. Although i wasn't at these shows, I was at many of the CO Phish shows from '90 on and I remember talking to people about this. In the early days when Phish would come through CO there were about 100 of us that would go to all the shows. It was a weird sort of underground. So, in a weird way, this set has sentimental val
  3. You're talking about Heroes, right? I bailed after season 1 and didn't watch any of season 2. After the season 3 premier, I was told I should give it another shot. I did and enjoyed the premier somewhat (though not nearly as much as the first half of season 1). I watched a few eps after that, but now have 4 or so eps on my DVR that I have little motivation to watch. Should I just give up and delete them or is it worth my while to watch them?
  4. Huh, always interesting when the band plays it differently than the way you figure it out. I play it at capo5 with different voicings obviously.
  5. Cool article on remastering the Colorado '88 tapes. It probably would hold interest beyond just Phish fans, but I didn't know where else to post it.
  6. Was that solo? They played at the Gothic in Denver with Malkmus and that has a capacity of about 1000 I think.
  7. I saw Malkmus & BT earlier this month in Denver and they did Funk 49 and I Heard It Through the Grapevine together.
  8. Yeah I actually think Malkmus was a good choice for them as an opener as they so clearly have that Pavement influence, but it certainly isn't huge crowds (and probably not a ton of folks that hadn't already heard of them). I bet they will be big on the festival circuit next summer. That's the best way to get in front of new audiences IMO.
  9. Like Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks?
  10. Is it only me or has the expression "jump the shark" jumped the shark?
  11. I have been having a blast strummin' and singin' the title track, Furr, off the new one.
  12. But then we'd need a sports talk radio bailout. What would they talk about without the ability to bitch and moan about the BCS!?!
  13. You bet. But buyer beware, this is not the most accessible music in the world. I am a HUGE Frisell fan, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
  14. I don't know if it's the best, but I'm partial to 19 from OKC. 14 is pretty great too but that may be what you're referring to as 13 is from '81, I believe.
  15. I'm not a huge fan of Belgian beer in general, but i want to try Trappist Westvleteren 12 as many consider it the best beer on Earth. I'm pretty positive I will not concur, but I'd still like to try it. I'll try Rochefort 10 as a consolation though as Trappist Westvleteren 12 is supposedly very hard to find.
  16. Because they don't have the capital to re-emerge (likely). If the financial services industry weren't also in disarray, this might be without question the best bet. But as it stands, it's not that simple.
  17. Man, this much easier said than done. Frisell doesn't have one singular style that can point to an album as characteristic of his sound or definitive. He has many albums where he is somewhat ambient to outright noise, from traditional Americana/Nashville session sounds to heavy metal and World music to more traditional jazz. Although I wouldn't say it is by any means "beginner Frisell," this year's History, Mystery provides glimpses of many different styles but holds together remarkably well for what i would call one of the year's best albums. Other suggestions: East/West Have A Little Fai
  18. Two good releases from this year are: McCoy Tyner - guitars Bill Frisell - History, Mystery
  19. We watched Blue last night, the first of Kieślowski's Trois Couleurs trilogy. I liked it but my fiance fell asleep. The biggest issue I had with the film is that Julie is trying to escape everything of her former life yet she brings the blue beaded mobile. That object obviously holds memories for her so bringing it seems at odds with her other actions. It felt to me like a symbolic device for the film and whenever it was on screen it took me out of the film. I just kept thinking "here is a film maker's symbolic device." Otherwise, very good, if not "entertaining."
  20. Don't a lot of you folks live in the midwest? If so, there are great beers out in those parts that I'd love to try as well. Surly and Three Floyds come to mind immediately. ETA: duh, look at the location, Moe! OK, I'd imagine that Arkansas might be tough to find good stuff and well, Utah... (no offense)
  21. For all you hopheads, please do yourself a favor and try Russian River's Pliny the Elder Double IPA. It is currently my favorite beer. I wish i could get my hands on Plny the Younger (which is supposedly even better), but I don't think they're bottling it yet.
  22. Collection of art from Mimiyo Tomozawa. Mimiyo is probably best-known (certainly around here) for her artwork on two Jim O'Rourke album covers (Eureka and Insignificance).
