VCers in bands: LET'S GET SOME VC SHOWS HAPPENING!
lamradio replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
So Called Star, based out of Greenville, SC. We're always up for a road trip and would actually be interested in playing a show up your way Todd. As long as it was a paying gig (gotta cover at least some of the expenses). -
Yeah, that's pretty much how we feel. If this place never calls us again, then it's probably better that way anyway. It's just a shame because there are very few options when it comes to local venue's in my town..... But we also can't develop a reputation as a band that is desperate and lets club owners walk all over them. I've never been a fan of the business side of music (that's why we have a manager/agent)... But I always end up getting sucked into it somehow anyway.

So I've been a performing musician for over 10 years now, and yesterday I just experienced my first "double booking" fiasco. Our booking agent called the venue my band was scheduled to play at to let them know we found another band to bring along, and they said "ummm... we hadn't heard from you in a while, so we got other bands to fill the bill". The show was booked a month ago and we had already started promoting it... What do you mean you haven't heard from us? Of course I was pissed, so I called the venue wanting answers.... They offered me a date a week earlier, but that was unaccap

So after nearly a year or recording and writing, my bands album is finally finished. Were considering using bandcamp.com We thinking about using the "set your price" model, or maybe even free.. We just want to get the music out there.. We will of course press CD's later, and that's when we'll try to make a little money.. But again for now we want to just get our music heard.

The cover of "Can't Stand It" by Invade Rome is by far my favorite... It's AWESOME! Thanks for sharing this.

Wow he looks bad.....

Ah, so your opinions are varied. 2 likes, 2 hates, and one love it. I personally love it.. But it had to grow on me.. I'm always very open when I first listen to music and usually like just about anything I listen to the first time... Then when an album starts to soak in, I either start to hate it or I start to love it.... This album has definitely been a grower and it gets better every time I listen... "Siberian Breaks"... just.... wow.... the ending especially.

Yeah when I read "thousands began to leave" I couldn't believe there were more than a thousand in attendance.. I could almost understand having the full GNR with Slash, but just Axl? Thousands???

I know this album has been out for a little while now, but I've just started to really soak it in. First of all, I really admire how they strayed away from the poppy radio friendly sound and made a very artistic record. It's a very bold move because MGMT was made famous by songs like "Kids" and "Time To Pretend", and for them to go in the opposite direction so early in their career is pretty risky. You won't find anything close to "Kids" on this album, so those radio friendly fans will be using it as a beer coaster. But again, I really admire that about them and in my opinion this is a mu

Just to prove that the Goo Goo Dolls didn't always suck
lamradio replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Hey, it might have been 99 actually because I'm sure the Goo Goo Dolls only played with them on one tour... The years start running together before 2000. -
Hockey was awesome, so was baseball, and basketball! I can still hear that dribble sound...

My uncle gave me his after he got an Atari. Had the little cards that you insert into the controllers that show you the buttons for each game. Dungeons and Dragons was the shit.

I know I know.. The dolls just put on a great no frills rock n roll show.. I was never a big fan but they just knew how to do it... The Stones on the other hand, it was just kind of meh... I don't know if it was because they were having an off night, but they were just loose, sound was terrible, and it was just overall.. meh..... And.. You saw The Cars?? I hate you! -

I saw them open for The Rolling Stones in 97 (i think). They blew the stones off the stage... *ducking to avoid getting e-smacked in the head* -
Now I know where Pat got his hairdo!! And Happy Birthday Jeff!

I say fuck him too. My friend is a cop who has to deal with suicides all the time. He once got called to a house where a man committed suicide. He left a note on the door that was something along the lines of "call the police immediately, please do not let my kids in this room." Now that's still incredibly sad and disturbing, but it's also a very considerate/private way to do it.

The ultimate yin and yang of movie going
lamradio replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I wasn't really thinking about storyline or character development when I watched The Hurt Locker. I was mostly too busy thinking "holy shit this movie is intense".. And "wow this must be what combat is really like over there"... Even though a lot of war veterans have said that there were many unrealistic things about the movie, it felt very realistic and "like you are there"... -
Pretty weak first half IMO... Dr. Dog needs to play ACL! They are a perfect band for that show and I'm surprised they haven't been asked yet...
-
It's going to have to be something completely different.. Like how SBS was so different than any of their previous albums. WTA tried to be that way, but it just fell short.. Few good tunes, but overall a very stale album. I like the idea of them cutting Nels' leash but agree that I don't think it'll happen.. However, scaling it back could be great and seems likely to me.. I think it would be awesome if they made a very scaled back country sounding album where Nels is on steel most of the time.

Ouch...... Never good to get bashed in the NY Times..

So were you able to get some good views of Fergie?
-
I originally read the title as "Pixies to record a new album this spring".... Really got my hopes up! But yeah, cool for the Posies too.

It lived off of a diet of dirt, fed from it's spoon shaped tail!!
