  1. So who's the better songwriter, Woody Guthrie or Bob Dylan?
  2. I read somewhere that Dylans a big Leonard Cohen fan
  3. That's funny. I personally would have to go with Jeff. He's the one I listen to more. He's the one I get more enjoyment out of. Dylan and his relevence to me seem to far removed from my generation(which would be X). Being closer to Jeff in age, I can relate to him more. Dylan's an iconic grandfather. I will continue to try and get into Dylan only because so many people whose opinions I respect revere him, but the magic hasn't clicked with me yet. I mean, hey, I am posting on a Wilco site. I haven't even looked for a Dylan forum.

  5. I went with Paul. He may be a wanker but he's a talented wanker. Ray was a close second.
  6. That's not really the case, but thanks for your concern sweetie.
  7. This is where the mean began. I don't mind people having their own opinions and I try never to tell them that they are worthy of ridicule when they express them. No is a fine answer to the question, a healthy back and forth is great, but my opinion is no more ridiculous than yours. Peace Golden Smoghead, I apologize for my part in this argument.
  8. Thanks Markosis, I was waiting for someone else to chime in. After that "You're ridiculous if you think Wilco is half as diverse as Beck or Ben Harper" remark I was wondering what alternate universe I had landed in. No offense to Mr. Hansen, I can't wait for his new album this summer. As for flamenco, listen to More Like the Moon, it has a beautiful semi flamenco/Willie Nelson guitar part all the way through the song.
  9. That's all you needed to say. Obviously we are not on the same page "imo".
  10. There's more to it than that. Wilco's music has shades of classical, Jazz, "Flamenco", country, blues, pop, kraut rock, Hip Hop, soul, punk, 60's and 70's classic rock. If all I got out of Wilco's music was "cool acoustic pop or folk-rock" I would "steal a car and drive to Reno, take a hit of acid, and go screw some tranny hookers while calling (myself) Eileen." I didn't mean to offend. I was just trying to describe Wilco in a way that my wife's friend would understand. She knows Wal-Mart but she's never heard of Wilco or any of the other bands I was referencing. Or... maybe I was jus
  11. Pleased to meet you Caliber66. School me in the art of
  12. Thanks for the song. I'm so glad that Wilco have started playing songs from their back catalog. I saw them in Austin on Sunday and every album was represented. I felt like I was at Wal-Mart(jk).
  13. I'm a Wheel and Kicking Television are punk influenced. Isn't that 1975-80?
  14. I have not. We were actually posting at the same time about She's a Jar. I've always felt that Tweedy wrote that as a rap song and put it to beautiful music.
  15. Try She's A Jar to a hip hop beat. It works every time. The first hip-hop folk song.
  16. Forgive the comparison, but one of my wife's friends asked me tonight to describe Wilco's sound. I said that they were a one stop shop band, like Wal-Mart. I loathe the place, but ironically excluding good books and music, you can find just about everything you need to survive at Wal-Mart. My point is/was that Wilco is the same in music land. They cover just about every genre, sometimes within one song. Am I drunk typing or am I making some sort of sense?
  17. Is that not trying just a little to hard to be
  18. Thanks Lee. I was at the show and your recording is a great souvenir. The sound is very warm and clear. I can't wait to hear Mondays.
  19. Hoodoo Voodoo with Pat and Nels dueling on guitars was a highlight for me. They looked like they were having a blast and Jeff was just laughing at them.
  20. I saw Malkmus and the Jicks in Austin on Sunday. The music was great. There were some assholes in the crowd, but they were great.
  21. Ditto on the Wilco. They are my favorite band and all, but my wife listens to them exclusively. I can't do that. I need variety.
