  1. Bernie Sanders is still running. But more to the point does it matter? Why do you even bring it up? It is a really silly thing to point out. There are plenty of reasons to vote for someone but age is not one of them. But go ahead and make your superficial snide remarks. And if there was a republican who was running who was in their late 60s early 70s you would have no qualms about vote for him/her. Nor would you even make mention of it. When McCain ran in 2008, was age an issue to you then? Why is it a problem now?
  2. So it looks like Biden is not running for President. Which is really too bad. I think he was the best candidate out there. It will be interesting to see where his supporters go. More than likely they will head towards Clinton. Speaking of the former Sec of State, she will have an interesting week testifying at the committee to derail Clinton Benghazi hearing. To put this in perspective the Benghazi select committee has spent millions of taxpayer dollars and countless hours of questioning/testimony on the tragic deaths of 4 Americans, but yet to have any serious committees/inquirie
  3. WGN has never had postseason games. Nor do any "local" stations. Which is a problem. Baseball announcing is at its best when it is local guys that know the teams. Whatever Mutt and Jeff combo they have calling the Cubs games on TBS right now is nothing short of atrocious. Which is why I turn down the TV volume and turn up Pat and Ron on the radio. It is even better in the post season because Len Casper (the TV play-by-play) is calling the 5th, which is a million times better than when Ron Commer does the 5th. Ron Commer does the worst play-by-play.
  4. My roommates and I had that same couch when we were in college. We called it the broccoli sofa of love.
  5. I was gonna post pretty much the exact same thing. I would be fine with good guy with a gun argument if every person who bought a gun would be required to take an extensive training on how to properly use firearms. Also the good guy with a gun argument is again very reactionary. While in theory it would stop an active shooter situation. It does nothing to prevent that situation. It will still result in someone dying or being injured. The focus should be on prevention. And no, conceal carry does not reduce crime.
  6. I think it statistics that directly contradict a firmly held belief. And that is why we will never get anywhere on gun violence.
  7. Hillary is not a real human. She is a genetically engineered cyborg from the future, sent back in time to prevent the disasters of a Donald Trump Presidency.
  8. Not the Huey Lewis and News thread I was expecting.
  9. Man don't be too quick and rush to a knee-jerk reaction to this tragedy. We should throw out and argue about some plans and solutions, but ultimately do nothing. But what is ultimately sad in this entire thing, is that since the Oregon shooting last week, there have been several other shootings and gun deaths, which has not been reported in the media. Some of them gang related some of them not. I guess now the only way gun violence gets on the news is that it happens at a school.
  10. Interesting that out of the four games that have been played so far, no home team has won. Is Houston the team to beat in the AL right now? They looked pretty good.
  11. Oh yeah directly after the incident there were a lot of hot heads. But 12 years later I don't think anyone blames him.
  12. I do not know of a Cub fan who honestly blames Bartman for the 2003 meltdown. I do know of a lot of Cub fans however that blame the song Do the Bartman. https://youtu.be/AKC7Oz6ZrRU
  13. I saw there is a go fund me campaign to get him to a playoff game. https://www.gofundme.com/ws56s2f8 Not sure of the motive.
  14. The last time the city of Chicago burnt down it was because of a cow. I am not going to count my chickens. I am taking one game, one series at a time. I have been burned too many times before.
  15. That is awesome! There is a certain momentum for the Cubbies in the media right now. Man that was a fun game (if you are not from Pittsburgh). Arrieta dominant, a monster home run from Schwarber, a benches clearing argument (luckily no one was stupid, although Rodriguez looked pretty ridiculous fighting the cooler). Funny that only one to really hit Jake was the relief pitcher Watson. I still don't know why Watson intentionally hit Arrieta. It was a stupid move and from what I have heard came from the top. I understand there are times when hitting batters is called for, but in a p
  16. And that is why Arrieta is my Cy Young award winner.
  17. No it is not a trifling number and I never said we shouldn't go after criminals with guns. But 70% of all homicides were not gang-related. Which is a much larger number, and "throwing gang members in jail" plan would ignore over 2/3rd of all of the murders. Plus as I stated before, that plan would be ineffective and costly.
  18. Did a bit more research on this and found this. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/evan-defilippis/do-we-have-a-gang-problem_b_5071639.html So the NRA talking point of the gang problem causing our gun problem is really not so true. So not only is the "throw every gang member in jail" plan fiscally irresponsible it is actually based upon some false assumptions.
  19. Your solution, locking up gang members is such reactionary knee-jerk statement. Sure on the surface it sound like a great idea. Of course gang members can't commit murders if they are in jail. But it doesn't take in account the immense cost of doing this. Cost per inmate per day (in Cook Co) is $143.00. Multiple that by your 150K number that is nearly $21.5 million dollars a day. Which is $7.8 billion a year. Not to mention the costs of the police in catching and trying these criminals. Also studies have proven that there is no positive impact of incarceration to crime rates. Though t
  20. So playoffs start tonight Anyone care to make a playoff predictions? AL Wildcard: Houston over Yankees ALDS: Blue Jays Over Rangers in 4 ALDS: Houston over KC in 5 ALCS: Blue Jays over Houston in 6 NL Wildcard: Cubs over Pirates NLDS: Cubs over Cards in 5 NLDS: LA over Mets in 3 NLCS: LA over Cubs in 7 (and my heart breaks once again) WS: Blue Jays over LA in 5
  21. Yeah that is an extremely stupid idea. Mainly because states do not exist on their own and it would be easy to bring in firearms from other states. Any gun control would have to be done at (and should be done at) the federal level. Talk about an unrealistic plan here. There are huge socio-economic factors at play here. I agree with you the majority of murders and gun violence is committed by criminal elements in society and the "mass shootings" are merely another symptom. Horrific as they are, it seems to be the only thing that gets people talking about it. But the criminal eleme
